Kestrel Lodge Campsite is a small, quiet and friendly campsite based in the foothills of Skiddaw, above Bassenthwaite Lake and on the Cumbria Way.
Families, backpackers and bikepackers are welcome! Escape the hustle and bustle to enjoy a campfire with every pitch just outside Keswick.
Kestrel Lodge Campsite is all about peace and tranquility, perfectly located for exploring the Northern Fells. We are located off the beaten track yet within easy reach of everything you need. Its a short stroll to Bassenthwaite Village, which has a great local pub serving good food and traditional ales. Keswick and Cockermouth are only a 15 minute drive away.
Nearby Attractions
Skiddaw, and other northern fell such as Little Man, Carl Side, Binsey, Cockup, Knott, Great Calva, Bakestall, Longlands, Meal Fell and Sale Fell.
Within a few miles of the campsite is Dodd Wood and Mirehouse and gardens, the Lake District Distillery and the Lake District Wildlife Park. There is also Bassenthwaite Lake Station, a great spot for afternoon tea on a converted Orient Express Train Carriage.
The area is popular for walkers and cyclists alike. Whinlatter Forest is a short drive away, with some great mountain biking and family friendly routes too, you can hire bikes or segways too for your mountain adventure!
Bassenthwaite Lake is also a couple of miles away, home to Bassenthwaite Sailing Club. Derwent Water is a 20 minute drive and a popular place to hire paddleboards, canoes and kayaks is at Nichol End Marina.
For the more adventurous, Honsiter Slate Mine is the a great adventure on the Honister Pass. With underground exploring of the mine, extreme arial adventures and gorge walking. Keswick Climbing Wall is only a short distance away, along with many great outdoor crags too.
