Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite on the borders of Hertfordshire and Essex is your chance for a wilderness adventure with an all new wild camping, back to nature experience.
Embrace Mother Nature in this rugged, natural setting nestled among mature woodland and a grassy glade surrounded by water on three sides. With limited facilities and none of the trappings of more commercial campsites, you`ll be able camp out under the stars, hang a hammock from the trees and enjoy an open fire in a fire pit.
Secluded woodland tent pitches in a peaceful setting, with real campfires
Set on the banks of a canal and surrounded by woodlands that are teeming with wildlife
Paddle board down the river to the nearest pub or venture off site and explore
What we mean by almost wild camping...
Solar powered, motion sensor lights around the toilets limit light pollution Composting toilets Cold water tap
Our pitches are spacious. Each riverside pitch can take approximately three two-person tents plus a permanent fire pit. Woodland pitches differ due to the size of glades theyre located in and if camping in a hammock.
Campfires are encouraged throughout the campsite but only in the fire pits provided, seasoned logs can be purchased from the site warden
You are allowed to fish from the river banks surrounding the campsite as long as you hold the appropriate Environment Agency rod licence
A parade of shops is located about one mile away from the site in Broxbourne. This includes a bakers, butchers, off licence, pharmacy and small supermarket.
There is a canoe launching point at the site. You can either bring your own canoe or hire one locally from Lee Valley Canoe Cycle at Broxbourne Old Mill & Meadows.

Canoeing Explore the River Lee that starts in Luton and heads all the way down to the River Thames from the Almost Wild Campsite; theres a launch area where canoeists can access this meandering river
