Nestled within the heart of the Hertfordshire Countryside, beside the gently babbling River Ash sits Toad Abode; a small, but beautiful campsite, perfect for those searching for a peaceful getaway.
If you are looking for an almost wild, back to basics camping stay, we have three grass and one hard standing pitch available within our grassy paddock.
Within a selected spot within our second paddock you will find Natterjacks Nook, a separate grassy pitch, with its own firepit and swing seat ideal if you require a little more solitude while you sit and watch the sunset over the river.
Our pitches are spacious, allowing for one large or two small tents per grass pitch, and one campervan or roof tent, plus awning on the hard standing pitch. Unfortunately, we cannot accept caravans at this time.
What we mean by almost wild camping is that our site has minimal, rustic facilities, intended to be sympathetic to our surroundings. You`ll find no electric hook-ups or showers here.
What you will find are:
Solar powered, motion sensor lighting and USB charging points.
A composting toilet located in the second paddock near to Robin`s Reception.
A cold, fresh, drinking water tap located in the second paddock, along the fence line behind the greenhouse.
Picnic benches - free to use.
If you are wanting to cook up something delicious, fire pits are available to hire for £6 for the duration of your stay, and grills are available to borrow from Robin`s Reception.
Well behaved four-legged friends are welcome
Looking for something a little less work we have a 5 meter pre pitched Bell Tent available for hire, with a double bed with space for two single beds available on request.
No tent no problem we have a Shepherds Hut available for hire, Toads Hut sleeps two in a comfortable double bed.

Nearby Attractions
The Crown Pub, is approximately 1.7 miles away on foot and is an excellent place for a drink and a meal before a gentle walk back to Toad Abode.
We are situated along the Hertfordshire Way, footpath 12 is immediately outside our main gate, this is a circular walk of approximately 194 miles around the county of Hertfordshire. This section of the walk is from Widford to Bishops Stortford (10.3 miles). The route follows the River Ash to Much Hadham, before heading to Perry Green, home of the Henry Moore Foundation.
The Henry Moore Studios and Gardens are situated two miles from Toad Abode Campsite, on Henry Moore`s family Estate.
Lea Valley White Water Rafting is a short drive form Toad, with horse riding, canoeing, kayaking and even a little White water rafting.
Hertfordshire Zoo formally known as Paradise Wildlife Park is just a short drive away.
St John the Baptist Church has been a striking feature on the Widford Landscape for over 700 years. Kept open during daylight hours, is a short stroll from Toad Abode and well worth a visit.
