Great Langdale Campsite nestles below the towering Langdale Pikes, in one of the best walking and climbing areas in the Lake District.
There`s lots to see and do in the valley, and we even have our own National Trust pub, the Sticklebarn, just down the road.
Fell walking routes include Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, the Langdale Pikes and England`s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll are among the numerous rock climbing locations in the valley, providing some of the most spectacular rock routes in the UK.
Camping
There are 120 informal pitches scattered across the camping meadows. In your booking, let us know if you need room for a gazebo, mess tent or pup tent. Cars are parked away from the camping fields in the car park so everyone can enjoy the valley and mountain views.
Campervans
We welcome campervans and motorhomes up to 6.5m in length, as well as roof tents. There are hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up in various locations around the site. We also have space for a few campervans without electric hook-up in the parking area.
Sorry, the site isn`t suitable for caravans of any size.
All campers are advised to book their pitch in advance especially in high season.
Pods
There are two types of pod at Great Langdale - three Regular Pods and six Plus Pods. They all have a few simple comforts - a soft floor, heat, light and sockets. Think of a pod as a replacement for your tent, and bring all your other camping gear, including sleeping bags, a sleeping mat if you`d like to place it on top of the mattress provided, pots and pans, a stove and camping chairs. They have glass doors opening onto a small deck. The pods are not dog friendly, and guests staying in a pod are not allowed to bring dogs to the campsite.
Facilities
The facilities blocks have toilets and showers, including accessible facilities. Showers are free of charge. There are washing machines and dryers
We can freeze your own freeze packs, and we often have some you can borrow.
In addition to the standard facilities you`d expect, the site also has a children`s playground, a bouldering wall, orienteering course and mountain bike hire.
During high season campers can sign up for rock climbing, gorge scrambling and more with Quest 4 Adventure.
Sticklebarn just along the road provides music, film and comedy nights as well as great pub food.
Nearby Attractions
Great Langdale Campsite is blessed with three great Lakeland inns within easy walking distance.
Ambleside, with its cinema, museum, host of outdoor equipment shops and great restaurants is just a short drive away, as are Hawkshead and Grasmere, two of the prettiest Lakeland villages.

Owner Directions
From Ambleside, follow the A593 road. At Skelwith Bridge, Turn right onto the B5343. The campsite is approximately 6 miles down this road on the left just before you reach the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.
By bus, catch the Langdale Rambler from Ambleside (daily service 516, reduced in winter).
