Fortrose is an historic seaside village, only a short walk from the campsite, with supermarket, butcher, baker, cafe, and restaurants. It lies 15miles NE of Inverness and is a great base to explore the rest of the Highlands. The Black Isle benefits from its own micro climate, often having better weather than other parts of Scotland. It is virtually midge free !! which makes it a great place to camp.
We have tourist leaflets and a map of the Black isle for you. We`re happy to give you information on where to go and what to see.....especially the best spot and time to see the bottlenose dolphins at Chanonry Point!!!!!! It`s the UK`s most northern colony of dolphins and they`re right here, a short walk/drive from the campsite.
Nearby Attractions
The Black Isle is actually a peninsula, rather than an island, running from Beauly to Cromarty at the tip. It is flanked by the Moray and Cromarty firths. It isn`t certain where it gets its name from, some say its because the soil is so dark, others because the snow rarely settles on the Isle.
Chanonry point is a large natural sand bar and lies between Fortrose and Rosemarkie village. It has a very scenic golf course and lighthouse and is famous for being the best place to spot the UK`s most northern colony of bottlenose dolphins.
It`s a great spot for those interested in history, photography, walking, kayaking, sailing, wildlife, astronomy, fishing, cycling, horse riding, archery and lots more!
We`re lucky enough to have fabulous eateries, dog friendly pubs and interesting independent gift shops too.
