Please note we have been advised that the campsite at his location has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. The pub itself is still up and running. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

I have stayed on this site twice now and would do so again if in that area.

The site. Well, it's a small field next to the pub car park! The grass can be a bit long and the ground is quite lumpy in places but it was fairly quiet both times I went so not a problem choosing a nice spot.

The facilities are based at the pub across the road, toilet was clean enough but didn't use any other facilities nor the pub itself so can't comment on those.

The best thing about this site for me was that the owners welcomed me and my 6 dogs with open arms! This is a rare thing when you have multi dogs, no matter how well behaved they are, you are often refused on many sites. The owners were really helpful in telling me about all the wonderful dog walking routes nearby.

If you just want a no frills base site, that welcomes dogs, and is surrounded by fantastic dog walking/dog friendly areas, then this site is definitely worth a try.

Lovely location with a beautiful pub and very friendly owners but.

We chose the site based on location but didn't really research or check the reviews before we arrived. Whilst the pub was nice and the owners were friendly, it seemed very much like everything was geared towards the pub and that there just happened to be an area to pitch a tent across the road for a bit of extra money.

The aforementioned field was very small with unkept grass (knee length in places) and would generally be unsuitable for families or anyone who wasn't passing by just for a night.

The toilet and shower facilities were very basic and whilst the food was lovely, it was very expensive, much like the campsite as a whole.

This could be a lovely little place to camp If more care and attention was paid to the up keep of the field and camping facilities.

I arrived in the evening on Saturday and the pub look delightful and in full flower beautiful, And I enjoyed my first drink. I then booked in for 1 night stay and went to pitch my tent and take a look around. Sadly I was very disappointed the grass was very long and uncut or cared for at all. And the facilities very poor, the showers consisted of 2 porta loo type showers where you have to put your clothes outside to have any chance of keeping them dry, the showers were in a poor state but needs must so had to brave it, but at least the water was hot. I could not find a tap on the site itself but there is one over in the pub next to the toilet. I then went to order food and was gob smacked at the high cost of all of the menus, stake ringing in at over 20 quid and a burger and chips at over 14 quid, a sandwich at a whopping 8 quid. The meal that arrived was nice and well cooked and of good quality. I felt that the campsite prices were very high for the facilities offered.

This could be a really lovely campsite if it had some care and attention.

We have just returned from the Merry Harriers campsite and although it is a little basic we had a thoroughly good time. The pub itself is beautiful with a stunning rear garden and the owners are exceptionally welcoming and friendly.

The food is lovely and the large selection of local beer is always a welcome addition. The campsite needs some attention, the grass definitely needs cutting and the toilet and shower block could be improved.

The campsite is basically just a field opposite the pub where the owners allow tents to pitch up. It was perfect for me and my friend as we were only away for two nights and the pub provided the ideal surroundings, but serious campers would find such a site lacking.

As other reviews have suggested, the site is in a nice location in terms of beautiful surrounding countryside, potential walks and so on. The pub is also a lot better following a refurbishment and the food sounded good, though drinks were pricey.

So, the campsite itself. I can't help but feel that the (very) small field which represents the camping area is just something that the owners of the pub are happy to take the money for but aren't bothered about managing - the grass was overly long and obviously hadn't been cut for a while. There is no on site drinking water tap (it's across the road at the pub), the facilities are quite basic (shares the pub toilets which are left open at night, portable shower which gets hot in the sun because of the plastic roof, no washing up facilities and nowhere really to have a shave or a wash due to tiny hand-basins) and some of the space in the field is taken up by a couple of rundown old caravans that look like they've been there for a while.

There's also the remains of a trailer tent hiding in the bushes along the field and you get a bit of noise from the adjacent road.

I wouldn't object to any of this quite so much if the price hadn't been £20 a night for two people sharing a tent, I've stayed in much better places for less money - probably why the site was so quiet when we were there (almost empty on an unseasonally hot bank holiday weekend).

Not sure how you'd fit 25 pitches into the field either, they'd have to be small tents right on top of each other for that.

The pub itself is pretty nice and I can imagine going back on a sunny weekend or using it as a stop on a walk or bike ride, but I wouldn't camp here again.

Beautiful location south of Godalming. Lovely country pub with lots of good walks or cycling.

Campsite: Small and basic. An area to side of carpark. No water standpipe. Soft ground. Loos are in the pub and open 24hrs. Portable showers. Could imagine queuing for loos when busy.

The pub: Good range of real ale. Pleasant staff. Food is great but expensive for what you get. Beer garden contains an adventure frame for kids and boules area for adults. Popular, so carpark filled up quickly.

Local amenities: No shops nearby but plenty of pretty villages close by.

Reason for visit: Spur of the moment decision to camp and to test out new tent. Weather was gorgeous during the day and cold at night.

We stopped at this site as it was next to a pub with entertainment on, and wanted to see the Mayday festivities, however when we turned up we were told we had to park our camper in the car park as the field would be too soft (despite hardly any rain), as it is almost all of the year (so we were told) which seemed a strange place to have a campsite!

We also had an awning, which we struggled to put up in the carpark, and were told this maybe an extra charge. We ate in the pub, but found although the food was good, it was very over priced for the small portions on offer.

There were no set pitches, and although we were told it would be busy; it wasn't, which was lucky as there was only 1 ladies toilet (and 1 men's) which was on the side of the pub across the road and shared with the customers from the pub, so had queues at times. The showers were porta blocks so we didn't use them.

We found the landlord and landlady not particularly welcoming, and the pub a little pretentious, although in a lovely setting.

A smashing pub which serves really good food and great ale too. Really friendly staff, worth a visit. Bit of a shame the campsite is not quite as good. Very waterlogged, no tap in the field, rubbish in the stream at the back, no hot water for showers which overlook the beer garden, lights out in the loos at night and no loo roll.
Shame there was no where to recycle either. Go prepared as no local shops but lovely area and beautiful countryside, lots of good walks. Could be soooo good with just a little bit of work.

This is a smashing little country pub tucked away down a lane in the Surrey Hills.

New owners took over a few weeks before we visited and were in the middle of refurbishment, including new toilets. They have plans for a new shower block and other facilities for the camp site over the next few months.

Good beer and food and a very friendly atmosphere in the bar.

The camp site is across the quiet lane and through the car park. It is quite small and although you could get 25 small tents on, it would be quite a squeeze if there were too many caravans at one time.

There are no hook ups and it is more of a CL/CS type of site, with use of the pub loos and outside shower across the lane.

Now a warning.

Do not attempt to get on site with a twin axle caravan or anything with a very large overhang.

The entrance is very tight and has a steep slope plus a steep camber on the road. The result is that you risk heavy grounding trying to get in or out.

Other than the above warning, it is a very pleasant spot that I would recommend.
