I was tempted not to write this.

This is the hidden gem, the small, but perfect peaceful site in walking distance from Torver or indeed, Consiston.

This is a working farm, room for a number of tents but limited, I guess, to 5 or 6 caravans or camper vans.

Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

We have just returned from a one weeks camp and really enjoyed our time. (Made great by excellent weather. ) We were told to buy some insect repellent and boy do you need it when the sun is starting to go down. The site is not flat and it can be a problem if you have a big tent. It does have some flattish areas though. The toilets are clean and well kept. There are two pubs a 10 minute walk away serving good food and drink. There are no shops nearby but there is a great little deli at the Wilson Arms. Lake Coniston is 30 minutes walk away but beware of the steep and rocky path in the woods. It was nice and quiet even though the was quite a turnover of people.

We stayed here for a week in August. A bit out of the way but ideal for walking (which we liked). Not far from Coniston with shops and bars.

I didn't like the fact there was a unisex toilet and shower facility. (Why do men always leave the seat up?) If I wanted just a quick wash, it was impossible as you had absolutely no privacy.

But the owners were very helpful and as said before, plenty of hot water.

Bus stop not far away for those who want to leave their car behind. Ambleside and Windermere not far away either.

Stayed here while walking The Cumbria Way last week.

Very pleasant and helpful owner. Offered to dry our wet gear on the Aga.

We stayed on Monday night and it was really quiet. 3 caravans and one other tent.

Toilets and showers were basic but very clean and only 100 yards from the pitch which was although on a slight slope it wasn't noticeable.

Only a 5 minute walk to the Wilsons Arms pub in Torver that did great food.

Very cheap to pitch a one man tent for one night. Although its not on the CW its worth the detour and would definitely recommend and would without doubt stay here again.

We visited in late March, the weather was exceptionally warm and dry. We planned to walk the horseshoe of Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man - this camp site is perfectly positioned for walking in the area - being on the bridleway to Walna Scar Road.

We had noted previous reviews mentioning just one shower; however, being the only visitors this was not a problem. The facilities were very clean; there is unlimited hot water from a scary-looking geyser. There is also a pan washing sink.

The grass area of the site has a gentle slope. There is a small area of level gravel for caravans; three hookups; chemical toilet disposal point.

Superb views, quiet and secluded; plenty of bird life, including owls.

The nearest shops are at Coniston, two miles north; there are two pubs close to the site (250 yards); both with log fires and real ales; the food at the Church House Inn was delicious.

Great location, very peaceful on the weekend we stayed. Facilities are adequate and very clean but with only one shower this may be an issue for some. Site owners are lovely and very helpful. We used hard standing and EHU both did the job but as this is a small site so not much room for moving van in and out. Had a good meal at the local pub short walk down the hill but need a torch if dark. Will return as the area is so pretty, Coniston is really pretty and has all you need. The lakeside area has plenty of gentle walks but the fells are accessible if you want a tougher workout.

Stayed at this quiet site over the weekend and the location was excellent. The weather was bad but the site very much ' get what you see' basics

The pitch area was damp but the owner was very helpful and been nearly dark when arriving it went very smoothly. Showers and washrooms ' very basic but clean and no bother using the shower or waiting.

We asked for electric hook up and was given it without even a hint of problem. The owners of the site made you feel welcome. 2 nice pubs in Torver and just a short walk away 5 mins.

We took our 2 dogs and no charge for them and some nice little short walk routes around to occupy them.

We will definitely recommend using the site and will go back there again for sure.

We stayed on this site for 2 nights with a small tent.

£12 a night is a fair price for this quiet, out of the way site.

Toilet block is unisex and basic, 2 toilets, 1 shower, 2 sinks (we did at one point find ourselves in a queue for the showers behind 4 school boys on Duke of Ed expedition so they were quite messy by the time our turn came around but still had enough hot water!) Always stocked with toilet roll, bins emptied every day.

Location is perfect for visiting Coniston, we did a lovely cycle from Torver around Coniston Water, an 18 mile round-trip with a few big hills, not too bad though.

The owner was friendly and takes good care of the site. The camping field is a bit hilly but there are enough decent flat areas to pitch a tent on.

Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.

Lovely quiet site with great views of the fells. Facilities were basic but very clean, free hot showers and plenty of water for washing up.

Owner was really helpful and friendly and let us freeze our icepacks in her freezer which was in an outhouse near the farm.

The 2 pubs in Torver were only 15 mins walk away and both served excellent food and drink.

The location was excellent for walking in the fells and was close to the shops in Coniston.

Would thoroughly recommend the site for a peaceful short break.
