We found this little gem of a site by following the instructions on their website which were accurate and easy to follow. We had a hard standing pitch with electric but there was plenty of grassed area if I had need to put up an awning.
There were two unisex toilets which were spotless and well supplied with good quality quilted toilet paper. There was one shower cubicle with copious hot water supplied from a combi boiler so no running out if you find yourself at the back of any cue.
Two sinks one of which is deep farmhouse type for pot washing with a drainer again all well maintained and clean.
The owners are working farmers and the site is next to their yard which has the diversion of sheep chickens etc and the couple are exceedingly friendly and helpful. If you are into bird spotting Jane keeps a couple of bird feeding stations stocked with nuts and seeds and the variety of visiting birds is astounding and I loved seeing my first nuthatches an me not really a spotter.
Lovely location and two pubs just down the hill a short distance from the site. There is fabulous walking tracks from the farm lane and we walked up to an old flooded slate quarry with waterfall stunning scenery.
We will visit again and if you do go try some of the farms fresh eggs available for purchase at the house.

I found this to be a little gem of a site, staying for 5 nights with my dog (no extra charge). It is only a small site, hidden away off the main road. The owner was extremely pleasant to chat to, and was very friendly.
The toilet block was always very clean and well stocked, and always had hot water for the sinks and shower. All the facilities are in one block, there is no male/female segregation, which may not be to everyone's liking, however it was not a problem for me.
There is walking to be had in every direction. Torver is 5-10 minutes by road or footpaths through the fields (with 2 pubs, neither of which I went in), and Coniston is 2 miles by road, or about 3 either along the lake or via a field route.
Also, turn left out of the gate and it is straight up to the Walna Scar Road and the Old Man, marvellous! A very quiet and peaceful site on a small working farm, I will definitely be coming back.

We stayed on the site for 5 nights in July in a tent with our dog and my parents who were in a touring caravan. The site was exactly what we were after - small, quiet, tucked away and reasonably priced with views of sheep and general farm life. We shall most definitely be returning!
When we were staying there was heavy rain and the site didn't drain hugely well however I wouldn't have said it was a problem - what ground does?!?
There are two great pubs in the local village, both in staggering distance (you'll need a torch and reflective clothing to walk back in the dark)and serving great local ales.
For those that are up for a bit of a walk Coniston is approx 3 miles across fields and along the lake shore. Great for an afternoon stroll. Also for fish and chip lovers I'd recommend the haddock and chips in the Bull Inn.
Also, and a big plus, the Old Man of Coniston is easily accessed from the site. A great warm up for other fells in the area - don't attempt it though unless you are properly equipped ie walking boots, waterproofs, map etc as the weather can change in an instant.
There are two toilets (shared), one shower and a washing up point all hosted in one block. This easily sufficed for the number of campers.
Fantastic site, great location and easy local access to great food - what more could you want?

It's nicely tucked out of the way on a working farm on the hillside above Torver. Perfect for exploring the southern lakes, being a short walk from coniston water and there are great walks in all directions from the site.
The facilities are basic but always clean with plenty of hot water for showers. The site owners are friendly and helpful whilst leaving you to it.
The approach road won't suit all caravans although we managed with our little 15 footer. There is some hardstanding and there are 3 EHU's.
There are a few public footpaths to the the village which take five minutes across fields, each leading directly to a pub. Both pubs do food and although we didn't try any ourselves the Church House did seem a lot busier.
We enjoyed our stay here and will use this site again.

Stayed here for 2 nights during April 2010.
We were happy with this site and would come again.
Its not a large site. 20-30 tents would fill it. Booking is a good idea for the sake of a phone call. Costs were £6 per person per night. No hidden extras for us. No extra charge for hot water. The negatives would be.
Only one shower and only one sink for morning wash. The sink is next to another sink which is for washing pot & pans etc. If you have 5+ tents in field then you can easily see a bottleneck forming there.
Pluses would be.
The shower block is clean and tidy and the shower has plenty of hot water which for April was really nice. The site was clean and there is gravel tracks for cars to run on etc.
Owners were pleasant to talk to.
The hot water for sinks is controlled by a different system to the showers which takes some working out. The showers work off a combi boiler type system, so no problems there. There is a switch on the wall for the hot water taps. Once pressed it heats the water for 7 minutes. Works just like a huge kettle. You can run the water off at any time but if you want piping hot water you have to wait 7 minutes. Not 60 seconds.
It is walkable to Coniston and there is a good pub within 5-10 minute walk from site. There is plenty of bins for rubbish and a centrally placed tap for drinking water. Campfires are not allowed but we had a drum on legs to have a fire. (The drum is not provided, bring your own).
There is plenty of dead wood around the place. Pretty good really so you should be happy providing the numbers aren't too high for the toilet block.

Stayed for three nights, early September.
Nice little site, as per previous reviewer we had awful weather but the pitch was fine - didn't get too damp.
Good facilities - the shower was lovely and hot and there's a sink to do the washing up.
There's a ten minute walk to Torver village which has good pubs. Coniston is a fifteen minute drive away and that has all good grocery stores.
Just outside the campsite there's a track which goes all the way up Coniston Old Man, so ideal if you're wanting to stretch your legs.
Will go again.

This is a lovely campsite in a fantastic location. Fell walks and lake walks direct from site, including the jetty for the Coniston launch 30 minutes walk away. The site has cows, sheep and chickens in the field behind which our children (6 and 3) loved.
The toilets were clean and the showers clean and free. It is a quiet and peaceful site.
It was a wet week when we visited, but due to the slight slope we didn't get too bogged down.
Wonderful friendly hosts - we will be returning.

This campsite is lovely, very small and mainly suited to couples, not really a site for small children who would become easily bored with its quiet nature. When we arrived the campsite was full - 4 tents and 3 caravans we were all very spaced out. It is up a very narrow track off the main road up into the hill, in a small field it has excellent drainage and is surrounded by woodland and chickens.
The only negative I can think of is there is 2 toilets and 1 shower for both male and female (shared facilities) which will possibly put me of going to this campsite again - being one of only 3 women on site I did feel a little out numbered. The shower however was hot and FREE! If you choose this campsite take loo roll they use that tracing paper rubbish! They were very clean however.
I won't rule out this campsite in the future, it was spacious and very quiet, and if you prefer a smaller more laid back campsite without groups and possibly children this is definitely for you.

Nice little campsite with good clean toilets and a nice clean, free to use, shower with plenty of hot water. Cheap and cheerful, only ten pounds for two of us to pitch our tent and park up. But take your own toilet paper unless you actually like that tracing paper stuff. Only stayed one night, but that was only due to the relentless rain during our stay. Considering an almost 24 hour downpour, the site didn't get waterlogged at all, in fact the drainage was incredible. Ideally located if you're intending to walk the Old Man of Coniston. As the earlier reviewer mentioned, the village of Torver (or Hamlet as I would call it) has two very nice pubs with a great selection of real ales. (For the Real Ale buff,I'd strongly recommend the BlueBird Bitter in The Wilson. And Hawkshead Bitter in The Church) Would definitely visit again, hopefully during better weather.

An excellent camp site, very civilised, well looked after and clean. Clean toilet block and lovely hot showers housed in a clean and tidy converted barn at the entrance to the site. It's not very big, so there is never an enormous walk to the loo in the dead of night. The camping field is slightly undulating, but well maintained and it's easy to find a nice place to pitch. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times. The site is not located on the lake, which lies about a 10 minute walk away, however there are spectacular views of the mountains. It is ideally located for the walker/scrambler/climber with a number of walks that start straight out of campsite. The nearby village of Torver is about 5 minute walk away and is home to two decent pubs. Both are quiet, serve good ale and food. It wasn't very lively, so those of you looking for nightlife may want to look elsewhere. But Torver was very welcoming: an ideal place to recover from a day on the hills. All in all, a great little site, ideal for walkers and climbers who want a base for a nice walk and somewhere nearby to have a pint afterwards.
