My wife and I started our holiday at the Tarka Holiday Park, didn't like it at all, we had no view, vans close on all sides, so moved to Chivenor. We had a friendly reception, put in a modern van which was decently spread out from others, in grounds of mature shrubs and trees which broke line of sight and had no problems at all. Altogether a more relaxed atmosphere with our own picnic table and benches. If you want a site with easy access to the Tarka trail this is the place, only 27 seconds from the van to trail entry by bike and safe. We are definitely going to be a regular and are going back in July.

We stayed here 10 years ago & all was fine. Have just returned & cant believe how run down the place is. There are old and derelict caravans on site & the whole place needs a good clean up. There is no shop just piles of stuff behind reception. Had we not paid before looking at site we would have swiftly moved on. Would not stay here again. The only thing in its favour is the proximity to the Tarka trail. Everything about the site screams neglect. What a pity as we had really good memories of the place.

We picked this site because of its location to the Tarka Trail. When we arrived we found reception but the door was locked and no one was around. Looking through the window, you could see that the shop advertised on their web site was not in use. A lady told us to knock on the side door to summon the warden. This was fine and the warden, Andy, was polite and helpful, showing where our pitch was on a map and how to get to it. The pitch seemed fine and all was well until I visited the 'facilities'
The only David Bellamy award the ladies facilities would get would be one for the amount of wild life using it as their habitat. The showers were damp and dirty, the one bin was almost full and wasn't emptied for nearly two days and the washing area needed a good clean. The whole place needed decorating as paint was peeling off the walk. I was tempted to leave and find another site, but, on the plus side, the location is great.
It isn't a site to go to for peace and quiet as it is located just off a roundabout and near the search and rescue helicopter pad. Another family did turn up, looked at the facilities and tried to leave straight away, but their motor home got stuck in the mud and we had to help push it out.
The warden seemed oblivious to the state of the toilets etc. But maybe the complaints of the other couple paid off, as by our last day, someone had made a brave effort to clean the showers and empty the bin.
The place is cheap, but this doesn't excuse the poor conditions. The cycling in this area is excellent, flat if you go towards Bideford and very hilly if you go towards Woolacombe.
If the owner/warden sorted out the facilities, this would be a great place to stay, oh and stop advertising a shop, as it doesn't really exist!

Such a shame! this site is ideally located and with a bit more effort would be wonderful! braunton is close by with lots of shops to visit, be careful of going in the 'paint your own pottery shop' as my wife and kids came out £90 poorer but they did enjoy it. Saunton sands looks beautiful but I wasn't allowed to go there as the nudist have taken it over! even though its not a designated nudist beach.
Back to the site, it is badly drained, I had to tow out a camper van and it was facing downhill. The field behind is on a steep slope so all the sheep manure drains down into the ditch at the rear of the campsite (smells a bit). The toilets and bins need more effort. I would go back again as its in a nice convenient location.
Please note, this is not a child friendly site as there is nothing for them to do there and no ball games of any sort are allowed.

Me and my partner stayed here for 9 nights and we can honestly say we will recommend this site to other people.
The site is the cheapest we found in the area, we booked last minute which we were lucky to get at all, it has 30 or so pitches so it isnt too crammed,
The toilet facilities were basic but manageable. The showers could do with upgrading- you have to keep pushing a button every 5 seconds which gets a bit tedious for people with longer hair.
Fortunately my partner had the luxury of having some string attached to his shower button to keep it on, so bear this in mind!
Washroom was good but very powerful taps that made a mess everywhere. Bins were emptied every couple of days.
Although this campsite is near a main road its not at all noisy from the traffic just the helicopters that linger every now and again.
Braunton and Barnstaple are easily accessible via the road directly outside the camp gate.
Overall good campsite for the amount you pay per night.

We have stayed at this site a few times now. It is a convenient location, close to Barnstaple and the Tarka trail for walks and cycling. Road noise can be a problem at night. The owners are laid back, and quite helpful. There is a small children's play area. Sadly, each time we visit, the facilities seem a little more run down and uncared for. This time, the shower/toilet block lights were not working in the evening,(dark by 5.30pm) and the doors had been propped open by the cleaner, so it felt scary. We had to use a torch to use the facilities before bed in the dark. In the morning, we could see that the shower curtains were the thinnest polythene imaginable,so it was impossible to keep the water in the tray and the showers not very clean. There was no squeegy to dry the floor. In the washing up area, there was a cloud of flies in the waste-bin, but there was plenty of very hot water. There is no longer a code lock on this door. The site was not busy, only 3 or 4 units appeared occupied when we stayed, during half-term week.

Arrived late in the day after cycle touring in torrential rain to discover our pitch had been given to someone else. Given half a poorly drained pitch covered in grass clippings instead. Facilities are OK but a bit on the basic and shabby side and shop was poorly stocked- chiller cabinet appeared to be out of use for some time. There was a petrol station across the road which was well stocked. Ate at the Williams Arms which was great value good quality food. Service was always friendly and owner seemed well intentioned. Road noise was noticeable but not really that disruptive. In summary its OK if you have to but there are better sites around

Clean site, friendly owners, basic shop. Toilets cleaned twice daily. The site has a small but suitable play area for 3 to 10 yrs. Well positioned for touring North Devon with Ilfracome and Woolacombe being only a short drive. 2 pubs / restaurants within walking distance. Very competitively priced site. The only draw back being the proximity to the A361, the wife had to use ear plugs for the first couple of nights, but personally it didn't bother me as I'll sleep through anything. All in all an enjoyable holiday
