We stayed at Chivenor Caravan park with our 5 boys for 10 nights around the August Bank holiday. The site changed hands 3 weeks before we visited and the new owners are quickly finding their feet and could not have been more friendly and helpful. The site is very clean and tidy and well kept, the shop is very well stocked with both food and camping spares / equipment. The laundry on site is very reasonable and made the keeping the clothes fresh very easy! The site is quite small abut very spacious with lots of room for the kids to play. The toilet / shower block is very clean and secure for the children with digi-locks fitted to all external doors. The showers are free and extremely warm as is the water in the washing up room. We visited all of the local attractions and had some really fun days out as well as a few nice days on the beach at Woolacombe and Saunton. We particularly enjoyed the Big Sheep which has the Battlefield live game on site. We had a meal out at the Tarka Inn about half a mile from the site which was very good and not to expensive. Being so close to the Tarka Trail and the estuary there are lots of walks and cycle paths within a few minutes of the site. The only down side to the site is it's close proximity to the main road which means traffic noise but apart from that it was a fantastic holiday at a very reasonable well kept site. We will definitely be heading back next year!

A lovely campsite in an excellent location to access the Tarka Trail. The owners take good care of the site and it is very pretty. We cycled from this base for two days and enjoyed a lovely meal in the pub which is in close walking distance along the Tarka Trail. We toured Devon and Dorset staying for short breaks at 8 different campsites over a 3 week period. This was one of the smaller sites we stayed at - a plus point when finding the children! This would definitely be in mum's top two for cleanliness, helpfulness and value for money. We have two boys - aged 9 and 6 and the playground facilities were adequate for their needs in the limited time we actually spent on site. The site is on a main road but we were not worried by traffic noise and it would certainly not stop us from returning!

This has got to be the cleanest and best organised site I've been on and I've been camping for 8 years. The toilet block really was cleaned twice daily and the facilities were very adequate for a full site. The owners were helpful and ran a super little shop. The pitches were spacious and never too far from the toilet block. The site has a good recycling system. The location is just over the road from the Tarka trail and you don't have to walk far along it for pubs in either direction. We liked the pub in Wratton a short walk off the trail. Braunton has fantastic pubs and restaurants and can be reached on the trail if your prepared to walk for 45 minutes. It's a wide, clear and tarmacked path, but you will need a torch. The only downside is that Chivenor is very close to a busy road. The noise didn't bother us but we didn't like the idea of breathing in the car fumes. Certainly still a great weekend destination.

This is a small site with very friendly and helpful owners. The pitches are quite close together; cars have to be parked in front, not to the side if you have a family sized tent. There was, however, just about enough space for the kids to play. The toilet and shower block is a bit small and dated, and if you time it wrong you can queue for a cold shower. The site is well located for much of North Devon's attractions and a new by-bass around Barnstaple will cut journey times. Unfortunately, the site's biggest problem is it's proximity to the main road. Coming from London we hoped to camp somewhere quiet and peaceful and this site certainly isn't. Because of this, I'm afraid we probably won't return.

August 2005 An excellent site. Rob and Su made us feel very welcome, nothing 'too much trouble'. The site was well kept and the facilities clean. A good base for eploring the surrounding area and across the road from the Tarka trail. Big enough to accomodate but small enough to care!

August 2005 Had a warm and friendly welcome at this site, the sun shone and we spent 9 nights here in total. Rob and Su (the owners) were very helpful and nothing, it seemed would be too much trouble for them. A nice quiet site, convenient for almost anything you want to do, in any direction you choose to venture. Also very clean, spotless free showers and great value for money. Considering they have only been running this campsite for 2 years, they`ve done a great job so far. If you are visiting this part of North Devon, look no further. I am really surprised that there are not more positive reviews as they deserve some more for all their effort. Will definitely come back in future.

May 2003 An excellent site. We camped there over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend 2003 in mixed weather. The current owners (its up for sale), Mike & Lesley, made us very welcome. The on site facilities were clean and well maintained and the on site shop open from 7am till late. It's right across the road from the Tarka Trail and ideal for cycling. Within easy walking distance are a garage with minimarket and 2 good pub restaurants - Heaton Court and Williams Arms. The latter has an excellent carvery. Braunton is an easy cycle ride away and has an award-winning fish restaurant and very good Indian restuarant.
