Beautiful location and friendly owners. I am afraid our stay was spoiled by apalling behaviour and noise that went on until the small hours from a hen-party and a large school DofE group.
Far too many campers for only 2 toilets and 2 showers. Ablutions in serious need of upgrade.
If you're in need of a good night sleep, check ahead if any groups have been booked first!

The two nights of stayed in Compton Farm has been great including a very friendly owner.
It is indeed too close to the beautiful Compton Bay beach and Freshwater bay.
If you looking for a campsite that is so close to the surfing area, water sports and swimming, walking, coastal and hill running, off road and road cycling etc, then this campsite is where you looking for.

Compton Farm is a great campsite with outstanding views, plenty of space, and a friendly welcome. We stayed during the August Bank Holiday and it didn't feel crowded, despite this arguably being the busiest weekend of the year.
Facilities are basic but more than adequate.
If you have young children, they will love the animals, playground and if you're lucky, tractor rides to feed the cows.
We will certainly be back.

Liked that the tents are in a row and your view of the hills isn’t blocked by other tents. Great to see kids playing up and down happily with a small old fashioned play area.
The barn is great for cooking or relaxing in sheltered spot. Farm animals add to the atmosphere.
The view from the road is fantastic and the small beach, a short stroll away, was very popular with surfers.
Hope to return!

Despite arriving during a bit of a farming disaster there was a warm and friendly greeting for us when we arrived (we being myself and the dog), the layout of the campsite was explained and we were left to choose a pitch to our (my) liking, there was only one other tent there so I suffered from that wonderful dilemma of too much choice. Eventually I found a spot I liked and the tent was pitched.
The site is long and thin with pitches being all along the hedge line looking onto the undulating wildflower meadow opposite. It is also situated in a valley, the advantage of the valley and the hedge is that you are protected from the worst of the weather especially the wind.
The disadvantage is that there is little or no phone reception. The advantage of this is that you can switch off, the disadvantage is that you can't check the weather forecast over breakfast. If you do feel the need to be online a walk up to the top of the wildflower meadow hill will proved patches of reception.
From the campsite you can look along the downs and can see Tennyson's Monument, when we walked up to the monument I could see our tent through the binoculars. You can't see the sea from the site but in the middle of the night you can hear it as the beach has plenty of pebbles on it.
It's also worth getting up in the wee small hours if it is a clear night as you get some fabulous views of the stars, there are no street lights so after a few minutes for your eyes to adjust the sky lights up with the constellations (drat, no reception so I can't go online and try to work out what they all are).
There is plenty of wildlife living alongside the farm animals, turkeys and chickens roam freely and I regularly heard cuckoos calling.
There are only 2 toilets and 2 showers for ladies (can't comment about the gent's) which wasn't a problem when I was there as there were not many people staying. If the site were full it might be more problematic. The showers are 50p, this gets you 4 minutes of water which I found was more than enough.
The water starts immediately on entering the coin so be ready! If you are the first person of the day you will have about 20 seconds before the water is hot. There is also a coin operated washer and drier in the utility room.
A freezer is available to re freeze freezer blocks, ask and you will be shown it's location. The facilities were always clean when I visited and I regularly met Anna coming out from inspecting or cleaning them.
There is no EHU here but for me that isn't a problem. There is a good supply of picnic benches scattered along the field as well as fire pits all waiting for you to use them.
All in all a great little site, basic but they are always much more fun than the regimented big sites. I will certainly be coming back here next time the Isle of Wight makes it to the top of the destination list.

We visited for a week this July and were lucky with the weather I must say for a start! I chose it because it is sheltered from the coastal winds by being in a valley, but still very close to the sea.
I am a single mother with 2 children age 8 and 10 and we had a glorious time. The children went off running and playing and hanging out with other children and I found the other adults there friendly. Not always the case: single mothers can be looked upon with suspicion / curiosity / envy / as a threat? The staff are friendly too.
There is a little playground, not much to get excited about, mainly used to hang out. Showers cost 50p, we only used them once as we enjoy the break from all that and use baby wipes instead, but all areas are clean. 2 washing up sinks. A freezer for freezer blocks.
Mobile reception not good (for me anyway), I had to walk up the hill, but I enjoyed the break from the outside world.
Nearest shops: Co-Op and Sainsburys in Freshwater.
I got gas from a little hardware shop in Freshwater too, can't remember the name I'm afraid, but it's quite a small place, I think it was on the way to the Co-op.
Locally, the beach is walkable although down 6 steep flights, definitely not for buggies. We had a cream tea at Warren Farm which is on the Needles, delicious.
Further afield: we visited the Zoo (fantastic, the talks and big cats are excellent) and Steam Railway (perfect if it's your thing).
All-in-all, a perfect campsite for us because:
Quiet, friendly, no music, no late loud parties, clean, simple, just good plain camping with respect for everyone else.
We're thinking about going back next year for a week!

This was our third visit to Compton Farm but this time we were staying in one of the static caravans instead of our tent. The reason we keep coming back here is because this is a wonderful setting and a very friendly but quiet site. Unspoilt sandy beaches are just a short walk away, there are great walks over the downlands behind the site and small towns are a convenient distance when you need to go shopping. Facilities are fairly minimal but clean and well kept. Because it's a working farm with cows, geese and hens there's a lot there to interest children and also a good sized playground to suit most ages. If you're looking for somewhere to unwind and relax with a slower pace and not so interested in the more developed Eastern side of the island then this is the perfect spot.

A lovely campsite in a beautiful setting, facilities basic for price. However, during our stay the only cleaning we saw was the empyting of bins and brushing grass from toilet block floors. This did not bother us too much as it was pretty quiet when we were here.
Only 2 showers in the mens and 2 in the womens which I imagine would pose a problem in the school holidays. A lovely beach on your doorstep with a little bit of surf!
From the campsite you could walk up onto the top of the downs from where there were excellent views all around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay (the fantastic weather helped) but if you want mod cons and loads of facilities this site is not for you.

We loved this place! Incredible views and surrounded by countryside so that if you stand outside at night you can see every star.
The caravans are basic but immaculately clean and with enough utensils to get by.
Great for kids - especially when they make friends with the other kids on the campsite and do wide games, fly kites and go roaming over the hills. There is also a small playpark which the kids seemed to really enjoy and there are plenty of cows, chicken, geese and ducks roaming about which will delight small children.
There's no shops or anything until you get to Freshwater so you need to get basic food for your first night there before you get to the campsite!
We are definitely going to go back next year!

This was the final destination of our three week coastal tour and what a way to finish! It's a rural/rustic camp site with plenty of space and great walks nearby. You can see the white cliffs from your tent and almost hear the sea crashing on the rocks!
Pitching was very relaxed but be aware that the basic facilities are at the entrance to the site, which means if you park right up the far end you have a good walk.
The nearest nice pubs we found were a short drive away in Yarmouth as there wasn't much at Freshwater.
If we go camping to the IOW again, we'll certainly give this camp site another go.
