 About as basic as it gets.
Two toilets 1x men and 1 x women.
1 x cold tap over the washing up sink which is outside and no hot water, one cold water tap for water bottles etc.
Cost £3. 50 Per person. Car park by the Robin Hood pub £5 all day or free for National Trust members (but no way to obtain ticket).
The camping field was OK but mind the sheep poo! sheep are free to roam as it is a working farm. It is about half a mile walk from car park as cars are not permitted.
Plenty of walks and climbing nearby.
Morrisons in Chesterfield about 10 min drive.

Basic. Excellent. I love this place because the view is great, there is no vehicle access so you have to travel light, the pub at the bottom of the hill is excellent, sheep wander near your tent, and there’s great access to fantastic walking and climbing.
Yes, it’s a 10 minute walk uphill from the road. That’s one reason it’s so brilliant. Facility wise you get a toilet and a tap. What more do you need? Also it’s a bargain.

Stayed a week night here whilst backpacking the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail. A basic Campsite which seemed a little neglected. Once we found the camping field we found it a quiet and comfortable site. The lack of amenities were made up for by the view. Good value at £3. 50!

This is a great traditional camp site with minimal facilities. The toilet block is basic, and clean. It's on a working farm, with many animals in nerby fields. Campsite itself is fenced off.
There is no vehicle access, but you can park by the Robin Hood Inn, about 10-15 minutes walk. Which is useful for the evening meal.
Location is great, near Birchens Edge for climbing, which is why I was visiting. Wonderful views too.

This campsite was easy to find, the facilities were kept clean and tidy. The site was quiet but got busier as the week progressed. The site was close to a busy main road which you could hear through the night, but it did mean that there were regular buses passing by that were heading to Chesterfield and Bakewel. There are walks to Bakewell and Chatsworth near the campsite. The Owners come by every tent in the morning to collect the £3 pitch fee. Enjoyed the time on site.

I have been coming here for over twenty years and nothing has changed. Yes, it is a basic campsite but it is brilliant for a quick weekends break. Although it is a trek up the track (0.5 miles) this is also an advantage as you feel away from it all.
The views are excellent, and the pub is only a 15 minute walk away. I would say come prepared and that it is suited for light camping, although I have pitched a 5 man tent there (which involved two trips up the track). The facilities are very basic and about five minutes walk from the camping area, with toilets and an outdoor sink for washing up (that only has cold water).
The location of the campsite is ideal for walkers and climbers. There is a good walk to Bakewell through Chatsworth Estate that starts just over the main road.
In general the site is peaceful and despite the sheep it is all part of being outdoors. Also beware the farmers little dogs as they are culprits for sneaking into tents and stealing food.

Have visited this site many times over the last 7-8 years at various different times of the year. There's always space and it seems to be fairly quiet. The toilets aren't that close to the camping field but they are on the walk back from the pub. Costs £3 per person per night and the camp warden comes round to collect the money each morning. Handy for climbing at Birchen and the eastern edges.

Came here as 2 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs as this was the only site available at very short notice.
The real disadvantage to this site is the walk from the car park - this can take between 10-15 minutes to get to the site proper.
Finding the access point took a while - park up in the car park next to the Robin Hood (friendly and accepting dogs) and walk down the hill, past the pub, past a farmhouse and the gate to the site is just below this.
The gate is locked and so you have to carry everything over the wall (inc dogs, 6 berth tent, cooker, gas bottle - you get the picture). The stone stile steps over the wall are wobbly and look like they will break in the near future.
The site is gently sloping and has pleasant views. Most of the people here were young people doing D of E and expeditions - schools and cadets and the adults seemed to have retired a safe distance so it was a little noisy but groups did quieten when asked around 1100 pm.
Facilities are spartan. Couldn't find any showers and only cold water in the taps.
Paid £3 per person per night, which was collected each morning by the farmer.
Big mozzies! - come prepared. Cattle, sheep and horses were in adjoining fields.
Would come here again only if travelling light.

A very basic camp site ideal for walkers and climbers been camping here since our teens and nothing has changed.
Large field just put your tent up fees collected in a morning.
Well situated close to a lovely country pub called the robin hoods inn.
A short pleasant walk to chatsworth house and the village of baslow which has many lovely pubs and eateries.
One down side to this site is during the summer it can get quite full of young teenagers.
If you can cope with basic camping for a few days for walking ect this is a cheap and cheerful site.

We used this campsite, 3 of us and it was outstanding. The showers were just right, no animals running riot and toilets very clean. Come to this campsite, I think it is the best we have been to for a long time. And that's saying something.
OK, toilets were quite a long way away, and so was the car park. Again, there was no playground, but open space was laying around you for miles.
