We stayed here recently during the first May bank holiday. As stated in previous reviews, this is a very basic paddock campsite for tenting only with toilet blocks some way away from the tent site.
The real issue we found with the site was the sheep. They appear to have become accustomed to the campers and have learned how to climb over the rock walls dividing the paddocks. They have a nightly ritual of climbing the fences at dusk and causing mayhem around the tents while you are attempting to fall asleep. Additionally and oddly, these sheep seem to have a penchant for savoury snacks and spent the most of the first night we stayed noisily enjoying our salami and cheese and even attempting to get into our gherkins and crisps. A top tip would be to keep food inside the tent, or hung outside of ovine reach.
All that being said the site is located within a truly stunning part of the country with many highly scenic public walks nearby, cute villages, and rock climbing. There is also a lovely country pub called the Robin Hood inn just at the end of the campsite drive which serves good food and ale that took the rough edges off the basic nature of the camp site itself.

Stayed here whilst backpacking on my Duke of Edinburgh's silver expedition. The campsite was extremely basic: a field with some bins and strict rules. The toilets were two whole fields away, which was a bit inconvenient, and there was a stile to get to them. The walk to the campsite was a fair way, especially after five hours walking with backpacks on. Cars cannot be parked by the campsite. As stated before, the rules were rather too strict, no noise between 11pm and 6am, no radios, no unsupervised teenagers etc. The campsite was not checked during our stay (one night), which was strange considering all the rules. Good thing was the pub! nice chips and lovely hikers den.

Stayed here with my Duke of Edinburgh group for one night. Didn't sleep a wink because other disrespectful campers stayed up all night and were noisy. Then sheep entered the field and we couldn't sleep because of the noise they were making. The facilities were very far away and poor to say the least. I would have been annoyed if I'd have had to have stayed there another night. No soap or toilet roll, suppose I should have taken my own but I know for next time! Would recommend it if you like being kept awake by sheep! Very pretty views though and quite close to Chatsworth House. Lots of loose horses, cows and sheep wandering about. Pub down the road but quite a walk, had to leave the mini bus down at the car park.

We ended up staying here because all the other sites we tried were full, we'd given up and were heading home when we spotted this one on the map. What a find, a great little haven. Ok, so we hadn't packed light and had to make quite a trip lugging our gear from tha car to the tent but it really was worth it. The campsite is basic, very basic! No showers, only cold water and one toilet for men, one for women. AND the camping field itself could do with some repair work on the boundaries. We were woken up at 4.30am by some sheep having a morning chat and when we arrived there were horses in the field. However, thanks to the noisy sheep it meant we were up walking on the edges by 4.45am, watching the sun come up and having the countryside all to ourselves. It may not be the best campsite ever, but it's a little gem for those times when you want to feel as though you're going back to basics and are in the middle of nowhere. Not for those who like their home comforts - perfect for those wanting to escape!

A backpacker’s campsite with no vehicular access, 100m from the main A619 Baslow to Chesterfield road, over a stile and up an uneven stone track. Cars must be left at Birchen Edge car park 200m away. There are no special facilities for disabled people at the toilets, where there is a step up
