Behind the dunes of Uig Sands - pretty good location and lots to see/do in the area.

Good hot water for washing/ washing up. Level and easy access.

Just a bit pricey for no hook up.

Didn’t try shower.

This is an excellent spot with clean facilities and insured for a set number of campervans. Access to superb beach just behind the sand dunes; very quiet site.

Booking is essential at busy times via mobile phone number but this isn't always answered so you're left in limbo a bit not knowing if your message got through and you've got a space booked!

Payment is via an honesty system (enveolpes left in utility room that you put your details in and fee of £15 then post into a locked cupboard) or via BACS - details given.

Chap did come back to me later in the day to confirm so suspect it depends on how busy he is as to when he replies - nice chap I caught up with later when he checked facilities and obviously picked up monies from cupboard! Tells me people are 99% honest in leaving the money.

Oh by the way watch out for huge potholes on the track!

A truly outstanding site in a stunning, unspoilt beach location.

There's always bags of space and you can't book anyway. Tents are pitched among the grassy mounds at the top of the dunes, around 100m or so from the facilities.

Located in cabins, they consist of showers (make sure you bring £1 coins!), taps/sink and a utility room. Payment is on an honesty basis. You just post notes or a cheque into a box. Proceeds go to the local community which is another plus.

I'd also add that if you're booked to stay at the nearby Eagle's Nest bothy you could always take a shower here.

As others have said you are on gravel behind the dunes.

The bay is fantastic never seems to be busy, it is so big.

Facilities where always clean.

Would come back again.

Superb location, good enough facilities, cheap as chips. Huge tidal beach, pitches anywhere in the dunes.

Can't fault it, just don't expect to park by your pitch or avoid carrying your kit.

It's a long way from anywhere, which is a very good thing.

This isn’t an official campsite as such, more of a car Parking area next to a beach with facilities. Having said that, it’s perfectly adequate. The beach is huge when the tide is out.

The facilities consist of a couple of toilets, a couple of showers and a dishwashing area. There is a honesty box for overnight fees and the showers are pay as you go.

It’s a wonderfully remote area and the road out is scenic.

Obviously, no EHU but I’m sure there is a chemical disposal point, but don’t quote me on that.

It's a long drive out to this site - scenic, mostly single track road - but we were a little disappointed by the area for camping for vans and motor homes. It's basically a car park behind the dunes and some people parked very close.

Maybe people renting vans are not familiar with the 6m rule? There are separate areas for tents and caravans on the dunes. No EHU but the toilet and shower facilities (£1) are clean and there is hot water on tap.

There is a sink for washing up, fresh water supply and a CDP. The beach is vast when the tide goes out and it felt empty even when all the van spaces were full.

Didn't see the owner - you pay by posting money (£15) in an envelope.

Locally called Ardroil Sands, the biggest sandy beach you ever did see when the tides out, when the tides in the water is sheltered and shallow. Perfect for kitesurfing.

There is a field on the left on the way in which seems to be for seasonal users, then a row of hardstanding places, then through a gate for grass pitches which is for tents and small camper vans, some have a beach view.

There are toilets and showers (the shower was out of order when we stayed but it was possible to use the disabled shower £1). Also a small kitchen area. Water tap at rear of toilet block. Site is not staffed, payment, £5 per night is made at the house at the top of the access road, if no one around, leave money in jar in porch.

Great wild camp site with facilities.

Please note that while the site is at Uig sands it is actually called Ardroil beach an Ordnance survey map is handy as the site is a little tricky to find and if you stop and ask someone (as we did ) its likely also to be a tourist!

You just find a pitch in the grass / dunes pay at a local house on leaving

Its about 1 hour from Stornaway by car.

Plus

Beautiful remote location where possible to get some shelter in the dunes

Toilets and showers very clean

Always plenty of hot water and no waiting for a shower

Shower costs £1 for 10 mins (so 2 can shower with a pound)

Cost of a night is £2 per adult

There is a fantastic distillery just about half a mile from the site where you can get a guided tour

Community centre, petrol, laundrette and shop within 2 miles.

Negative

Not much really.

Need to carry your tent a short distance from your car

Quite isolated ( just two other campers and a few camper vans when we visited in early august) that appeals to most but might also worry some.

Brilliant! Very cheap campsite with smart, clean toilets, showers & dish washing facilities. All set by an amazing expanse of white sand and crystal clear sea. Possibly the best site on Harris & Lewis.

P. S. The only reason I haven't given 10/10 for facilities is that there are no clothes washing facilities but this to be honest is churlush of me - I believe the nearby community shop (short drive) has a washer & dryer.
