This little site is in an idyllic location overlooking Uig beach. It is not easily found or signposted but if you follow the sign to Ardoil beach you will find the site at the end of a small single track lane.
Previous reviews have mentioned fields but it would appear that these fields have now been blocked off and the only pitches for motorhomes are gravel parking spaces which are perfectly adequate but do not have EHU. They are however superbly located behind the dunes, or a couple just by the beach
The toilet and shower facilities are fairly new and kept clean and tidy, and there are taps for water supplies. There are also washing up facilities. It appears that the facilities are also used by local dog walkers and runners who frequent this beautiful beach location
The price is great value at £2 per person
Loved it, we'll be back!

Well worth a stop at this one. The bay here just goes on for miles. Was not the easiest place to find. On the B1011 go past the Uig community stores on the left and carry on some considerable distance beyond (approx 2 miles)to Ardoil.
The first house on the right (no 8-9)has a large pair of ornamental 'wellies' outside, go past and as the road bears to the right you will see a brown sign on the R signposted 'To beach and picnicking'. You will see a lovely carved Chess Man at the start of the road and a shipping container further down.
There is a small house opposite to the road entrance which is where you pay your £2 per person per night. Honesty Jar in porch if no one at home. Go down single track and the is HS for MH's on the left, sheltered by large sand dunes. Grass area at the end for tents. The 40' shipping container provides very good, clean male and female toilets, disabled toilet, showers and a washing up room with plugs where if need you could charge a phone etc.
Very very good facilities especially for the charge. Well done to the community as you will certainly encourage people to return. There is no EH but for a nights stop over that was not a problem. Fresh water at the container.
The beach is absolutely stunning and the see goes out for miles. It was out when we arrived and we walked down to the waters edge. I would imagine that it comes in fairly fast due to how flat the bay is. Its the largest bay of lovely white sand I have ever seen. A child's heaven. Would definitely revisit. Never did see the crofter.

What an amazing place - we camped right next to the huge expanse of beach or water (depending on tide). You can walk out for miles without the water getting too deep and safe for children to play.
It was a pricely sum of £2 per night per adult (children free). We paid at the owner's house and never saw him at the site.
There is a toilet/ shower and dishwashing block at the top of the site and these are kept clean - either 20p or £1 for a shower depending on how long you want. Good to for recharging electrical items.
We met a few people that have been coming to the site for years, but this time campervans are restricted to a smaller area as the big field is blocked off. Beware of camping here as a couple of tents got flooded with when the high tide came in.
There is a local shop in Uig which sells all the necessary stuff but no place to freeze blocks etc.
The only downside was occasional midges.

When we first arrived we were a bit disappointed as the grassy area up on the hill above the beach was fairly full – there seemed to be lots of caravans left there without residents. However we joined two other vans on the gravelled parking area behind the dunes and then realised there was actually a really nice view from there, but of greenery and mountains rather than sea and beach. We decided we preferred it.
Facilities are excellent – 2 toilets for men and women and two showers (including the disabled cubicle) which was plenty for the number of people on the site. CDP down the manhole cover next to the toilet block. Showers take one pound coins (loads of hot water, lasts 10 minutes) or 20p’s. Washing up area with hot water, and paper towels to wipe down the surfaces. All very clean and well maintained.
You pay only 2 pounds pppn which is excellent value – pay Donald at the house with the red roof at the top of the approach road, or there is a jar if Donald is not available.
We stayed 2 nights and cycled in both directions along quiet roads. There is a small distillery (not very visible as it looks like a collection of sheds) less than 1 mile away where you can sample the product and get an overview of the company and their processes.
Lovely spot with the largest expanse of sand we have ever seen and great for kite flying or just an evening walk. Would recommend.

Enjoyed every minute of our nights stay here. Five other motorhomes on site with still loads of room for more. Beach was stunning, sand, sand and more sand. Toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and free, also has a dishwashing room. CDP at rear of toilet block and fresh water. £2. 00 per person per night payable at the house opposite the entrance, if nobody at home you leave it in the jar at the front door, (paid £20. 00 for a night at Flodabay Farm with hardly any facilities), I'm sure they could treble the fees and everybody would still be willing to pay. A community shop and fuel nearby. Shop was very well stocked with everything you would need. Fuel also available even when shop is closed.
Would highly recommend a visit here even if you don't stay. A real credit to the local community.

Brilliant campsite. New facilities block present, with toilets, showers, disabled loo/shower and kitchen. Honesty box used to give fee of only £2 per person, excellent value. But the real feature of this site is the fantastic location, right on the edge of a huge sandy beach. Great for walkers and dog lovers. No power is the only small negative for some motorhome users, but we thought it better for this.

As I live in the Isle of Lewis I visit this place regularly on my days out. As I have not yet stayed at this camp. It is high on my list. A new block has been built on this site giving the use of showers toilets with disabled use as well and a kitchen is in use. This camp is for tents and motorhomes only and is a must to visit. There is no power points on this site. Come and visit us in Lewis your visit will be well worth your trip.
The shop is a few miles back but you are bound to pass it on your way there. So give it a visit, on the way there I may meet you some time. Have a great day. I cannot give customer service a rating as I have not met up with the grazings reps yet. I will when I use the camp soon. I assume it in good old Lewis custom to be great.

Far more than expected, acres of white sand that is washed regularly by the sea. The sunsets are something else and overall a site not to be missed if on Lewis.
We spent three nights there and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. A very small sign at the entrance to the field tells you that it is £2 per person per night and to pay at No 6. Which is a walk back up the lane and across the road. (One of the things in the Outer Hebrides which impressed me as much as anything was the fact that honesty was taken for granted, often forgotten on the mainland).

This is a beautiful, unspoiled area, miles from anywhere, with minimal facilities. Camping is on a flat grassy area beside a wide expanse of white sands.
The sea can be seen and heard a few hundred metres away but as the site overlooks a sheltered inlet, the water, which covers the sands rapidly as the tide comes in, is calm. There are mountains round about, and a scattering of cottages.
This is an area of grazing land so there are no marked pitches. A narrow track leads from the main road (look for the sign to Ardroil Beach, toilets and picnic area; it isn't signposted as camping) to a small car park, picnic table and toilet block.
It then passes through a gap in the fence before gradually petering out on the grazing area. Caravans are not permitted in the camping area. The soil is very sandy so ordinary pegs will not hold well if the wind picks up.
The only facilities are the toilet block: two men's and two ladies' toilets, one of each having disabled facilities. The toilets are basic but are kept clean with toilet roll, soap dispenser and paper towels, and a very small washhand basin with a cold tap. There is no light in the toilets so take a torch for those night visits. Outside the block is a cold water tap. It is a 4 or 5 minute walk to the far end of the camping area.
Camping is £2 per person per night. A small sign asks campers to pay at Number 6, which is not the nearby cottage but back up the track by the main road. If there is no one in there is a coffee jar of money on the doorstep to drop payment into!
Mobile phone reception may be non-existent. We could not get Vodaphone or O2 without driving for miles.
About 5 or 10 minutes' drive back along the main (single track) road is the Uig shop which is very well stocked with food items. You can also get a cup of tea or coffee, and there is petrol. It takes the best part of an hour to drive from Uig to Carloway, and just over an hour to Stornoway. The roads are quiet and mostly on two-lane roads with some single track sections.

A better setting would be hard to find. Right next to the miles of sandy beach with a small loch within a few metres. Caravans are not allowed on the site – only tents and campervans. The charge is £2 per adult per night. Toilets at the gate on the way in – serviceable and clean, handwash and paper towels are kept well stocked and the bins emptied regularly.
To be fair what you have here is a view and total seclusion – you aren't paying for facilities and you don't get them. The views from the site are lovely and despite several other vehicles coming / going whilst we were there it was perfectly peaceful.
The Uig Community shop is only a couple of miles away and was amazingly well stocks, fresh breads, vegetables and practically anything else you could want to buy.
Just up the road is the Red River Distillery – a tiny distillery with a car park and visitors were welcome.
This isn't a campsite – its a community owned area where they are happy for you to stay for a couple of pounds per night – its beautiful scenery all the way down from the main road and the beaches and scenery really do make it a must to visit.
