The North Inn is a wonderful pub with a very basic campsite a few dozen yards outside its back door.

There are two washing up sinks and a separate covered smoking area with seats and a large table for the drinkers which could be useful in standard Cornish weather if you’re in a backpacking tent.

There’s a free plug socket here you can use for charging gadgets up to and including an e-bike battery.

The rear of the pub is left unlocked out of hours so campers have access to the loos and two showers.

The site itself is a small patch of rough-ish ground, when I visited hosting several camper vans and tourers in various states of repair and presumably being stored.

It’s boggy in places and muddy from vehicle movements near the entrance. Being right at the end of West Cornwall, it’s exposed to the wind.

The sea is visible but that’s not really the draw here – it’s the boozer.

Real ale is in exemplary condition and the food is delicious; it’s a very active and friendly community hub.

It’s also very well placed for the Botallack, Geevor and Levant mines, Men-an-Tol and several spectacular prehistoric sites. I’ll very likely stay again.

We visited here on a four day weekend.

The campsite is behind the pub in a fairly flat field with sea views. Access is fine between a house and a little art shop. The pub is olde worlde and the front is covered in ivy, looks good when you pull up, and it is.

The staff are friendly, the ale is brilliant and the food is excellent.

The toilets and showers are in the pub but they lock an inner door at night so you can use them when the pub is shut. The hot water is really hot and everything is clean. The washing up facilities are outside under cover and a bit basic. I never did find out how to fill a water container but we didn't need to so its probably ok.

There is loads to do and see in the area, went to the Geevor tin mine and we were there all day (a bargain day out). There are loads of walks along the coast and many footpaths to explore. A good place to stay and explore West Cornwall.

Pitched up here as a group of student hikers and made very welcome to camp for only £5 each. Camping field was a little way from the pub so well out of the way of any noise. Toilets and showers were in the back of the pub and functioned well, although toilet paper ran out and wasn't replaced until morning. Also had an interesting experience stumbling shoeless out of the shower into a busy beer garden. Got a good, free hot shower though so shan't grumble!

Ate in the pub that evening and had large quantities of delicious food served quickly. Beer excellent although only if you like St Austell ales. Ended up staying for the pub quiz which was good fun.

Only real grumble was they closed the loos for half an hour's cleaning just as we were trying to leave; after which the lady cleaning understandably seemed a bit peeved by us muddy lot tramping in and out of the bathrooms for a final visit!

All in all a lovely night and we were sad to leave.

We arrived to camp. We were welcomed, really welcomed, not just pointed in the direction of the site.

There were showers proper washing facilities, clean toilets - fab view from the soft grass on the site.

Having put up the tents we went in the pub to discover a proper pub, real beer (and cider) + the most unexpected bonus, proper home cooked curry. Two of us - all evening beers and ciders, 2 curries (fresh monk fish and coconut chicken + sides + camping under £60. A good night.

Plus to top it all, somehow on the way out I dropped my wallet - in the morning there it was on the pub bar, with all its contents still in place. A superb service.

I've marked child friendliness down - purely because this is a pub

 Fantastic camp site!

Site is a small field behind the pub but not close enough to be disturbed by noise. The site is not gated so anyone can arrive at any time.

Fantastic views (weather permitting) toilets and showers in the pub (open all night) and an out door washing station.

Lots of things to do locally. Geevor show mine. A fantastic coastal walk. Or if the water is bad, sit in the pub.

Very friendly landlord and bar staff. Also pub food was good.

I have given this site 10/10 for everything, we really liked it here even 3 day storm did not send us home. It's set on a flat(ish) field at the rear of The North Inn, Pendeen. It can get very windy so a good sturdy tent is required, good shelter for tents on the west by the hedges over looking coast. Check the website and you will see it's very basic, that's all we wanted, good showers and washing up area and toilets VERY WELL LOOKED AFTER INDEED. Pendeen has 2 pubs a Cost Cutter 7am-8pm and a chip shop which opens about 3 times a day, also a community centre during the week for internet and local activities. You may find children's activities organised here, we did not need this for my 19 year old son. If your kids like just playing on a safe field for a few hours this is a good place, there are play areas in Pendeen too, as I said we no longer need them. It's a quiet place which is how we like it, you could stay up late for a tent party of sorts, depends on how far the next tent is away (we had a few late sessions by the tent, good fun even with the wind). Whilst there I sustained a serious leg injury over at Carn Euny, so ended up in the pub for the last 5 nights (+ pool table), the North Inn food is great and a good varied menu which uses local produce when they can (well known for loads of different curries too), the locals are really friendly and good conversation flowed, even if I was the butt end of a few leg jokes, all in good taste though. If you don't know this part of Cornwall just get on the net, there are hundreds of things to do and places to visit. My family and friends love the fishing, whilst injured I hobbled around taking hundreds of beautiful photographs. We will return many times I think.

P.S dog friendly and bus service seems to run all day until late, looked like every 20 minutes.

Stayed for one night. Great showers. Site at rear of pub but not next to pub. Adequate for a stop off en route. £8 pppn

No access to beach as it is a cliff top location but you can view the sea from the site, just.

Didn't try the pub grub but it looked nice, family pub, pool table, darts, tv etc. There's a shop just around the corner the size of a costcutter perhaps

I stayed here for one night in September 2008 on a backpacking trip, and found the facilities basic but perfectly adequate. The camping field is far enough away from the pub for noise from its customers not to be a problem, although perhaps this is the source of the difficulties experienced by the reviewer who had a noisy time in July - maybe there's a bit of 'out of sight, out of mind' at work.

The field was quite level and apparently well drained, and there was a reasonable degree of privacy ensured by hedges. The showers and toilets were in good order with plenty of hot water, and there is a washing up sink just outside the pub's back door. Apart from the occasional voices of passers by on a road the other side of the hedge, it was nice and quiet.

I didn't sample the pub's food, but there is a little convenience store and a fish and chip shop a stone's throw away in the village's main street, both of which - incredibly - were open at 8.30 am on a Sunday morning!

I should note that my main reason for choosing the North Inn was that the Trewellard House campsite which appears on OS maps just up the road was in a very poor state and appeared to be disused - be warned if you were counting on it when planning a trip.

The last time we stayed there was August weekend. The site should not be blamed for the weather.

I have to be honest we have stayed on this site on numerous occasions over the past 3 years. Usually we use a trailer tent. We being self, my partner, her brother and his wife. Both my partner and I are past Bus Pass age, no complaints about noise.

OK we only live 20 miles away but we enjoy our weekend breaks over in Penwith. Beautiful scenery, fantastic light and stunning sunsets - great for photographers and painters.

Great Beer, good cooking if you want a meal, friendly people.

And beware the black dog belongs to the landlord!
