A very basic site, with a toilet/trailer unit on site, and another with a shower just up the road in the carpark of the B&B. Only a short walk to the shower, and its very good quality, so worth it.

There are fire pits scattered around the site, and no marked pitches, so you just set up camp where you choose. Fine for us, as we arrived early, and the site was only half full. But as the day went on, it became jam-packed, with guy ropes crisscrossing neighbours tents in order to fit them all in. The site is listed as having 20 pitches, but there were 16 while we were there, only 1 or 2 big ones, and I couldn't see where you could possibly fit one single more in! Luckily we made friends with the neighbours on both sides, and shared a campfire which was nice.

There is a stream that runs along the edge of the site which gives a lovely background noise. There are rope swings over it, and people were enjoying playing in the water. Watch out for midges though, bring some repellent.

Weather was not kind to us, drizzle for days, but luckily there is a fantastic pub just a few minutes walk up the lane called The Staghunters Inn. Strangely not much room to sit in the bar - they manage to fit in a pool table though, but very friendly place, and lovely food in the restaurant. Very tasty, and generous portions.

I would not visit this campsite again at this time of year, its just way too overcrowded to feel comfortable. But maybe out of season it might be more pleasant.

We just returned from our short 3 night camping trip & I can not wait to return. Weather was terrible but we loved the campsite very much.

On campsite page it says it is basic and so it is. But location is lovely and local pub is only 5 minutes away and very friendly.

The only thing that I missed was the tap for drinking water, and not just cistern with water. You can get drinking water from the Millslade B& B, but we did not fancy walking to the house for a bit of water, so we rather boiled it.

There are chemical toilets on the site but for the shower you have to go back to the house and there is a cabin in the car park where the shower unit is.

I had a shower every day and it was working well. Plenty of hot water. It is quite a small site.

Across the river there is a footpath along the river Lyn and goes all the way to Lynmouth. It is a great walk, not too hard.

We loved this site, the owner or one of his staff are always easy to find, the location is spot on and the country side is stunning. Please note though it is stated as a back to basics site and that is exactly what it is.

There is a toilet block that is a trailer unit and there is a bowser for water. Logs for your fire available from the house and they deliver them if required.

No frills, you would not get a large camper on to the site and you wouldn't get anywhere near with a caravan.

With all that said we would both return to this site, It has to be one of our top five places to escape to.

This site is labelled as a back to basics site, which it certainly is. Unfortunately the prices don't seem match the back to basics facilities.

This campsite is in a lovely setting and is clean and tidy, with several bins located at one end for recycling. Perfectly situated nestling in the hills and with a river running alongside (although this can be quite noisy if you are a light sleeper). Campfires are allowed but you will probably be best to take your own wood as signs warning against prosecution if you were caught collecting locally! Firewood can be bought from the main house however there was non available while we were there.

The toilet block was very basic but clean and situated on the camping field. The single shower was a good few minutes away located at the back near the main house and could be a nightmare if the site was busy, the cleanliness was average and the actual shower unit could only muster a 'lukewarm' performance at best (there is a 50p charge via an honesty box).

The tariff shown is per person per night, so our 3 person camp cost us £15 per night which is very high considering the facilities on offer, and if you include the price of a shower this would equate to £16.50, for which a site with much better facilities can be found, especially at off-peak prices.

In conclusion the site is billed as a back to basics site (for which it would be great for a 1 or 2 night stay) but the prices match those of a much more well equipped site.

What a lovely site. Basic but all you need for a relaxing holiday, and cheap! Myself, husband and 3 children (2x15yrs and 1x 7yrs) had a lovely 3 nights and 4 days. Toilets were cleaned couple times a day,and the site was visited by the owners everyday. The river was lovely for the children to play in. Allowed campfires, which went down well. We will definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone (already have to several friends and work colleagues). Lynton and Lynmouth within 10mins drive, and garage nearby.

What a smashing, back to basics site. Everything a dad and his boy could want (mother would disagree). River, open fires, only 1 other tent on site and very reasonable prices. Don't go if you want anything plush but if you want a true bit of camping, brilliant.

Will go back with a bigger tent as the sun took a while to get into the valley which made it cold in the morning, but once the sun was up, everything was fine. Good local pubs for food but go early!

Will definitely return

This camp site is one of my top 3 favourites in Europe! It's not for those who like their electric hook-ups or fancy shower blocks, but if you're into back to basics camping then this is the site for you.

It's not a huge site, but never seems full, it's peaceful, friendly and best of all it's near to a fantastic pub (Stag Hunters just down the lane). River, dogs, fires, the occasional sing-song, what more could you ask for?

Great for walking too, there's the fantastic river walk to Lynton, Lynmouth just over the river and many other paths near the site.

This is one of my favourite weekend campsites!

A great location, well kept field. Wake up to the noise of birds and the stream.

Great walking in the area, some fantastic heritage sites, Tar bridge well worth a look. This was the first site I used on my first visit to Exmoor and it really is a great area for camping.

Very Happy to recommend, and I will be back in the Spring. 10/10

We took the grandchildren camping for the first time. We had a wonderful time at Millslade campfield which was located in the Doone Valley, Exmoor National Park.
Lovely small field running along side a river. We were allowed to have a campfire and bought wood from the owner. Nice and safe children`s play area close by.
Walking distance to the Staghunters Inn were we had lovely meals. We will come again.
