 Absolutely immaculate site just outside the village. Pitches ad roadways all appear recently re-surfaced, grass in like a putting green. You had a choice of grass or tarmac pitches, all have ehu and there are taps on most pitches.
There is a moho drive over to drop grey water. Some of the hardstanding pitches are enormous, big enough for full size RV vehicles.
Showers and loos seemed quite old but very clean and well kept. Water in showers good and warm.
It was a 25 minute walk back into the village via the estate roads of Ashford Castle. At the castle there is a cafe and shop - its a stunning place and well worth a visit.
Cong itself trades on the film link to the Quiet Man film, a museum, statue and bars and cafe. Add to that a ruined abbey, the castle, nature walks along the river and there is plenty to keep you for a couple of days.
We paid €29 including, ehu, wifi and showers.

We stayed there on the bank holiday weekend for 4 days, this is an excellent site with all new large tarmac hardstandings, very easy to park on, toilets and showers are very good with plenty of hot water, we were parked at the far end of the site (by choice) and found the wifi a bit weak.

Our second stop of our tour from North to the South West. We specifically selected this site because of its location and that we wanted to go and see the majority of the original film locations of 'The Quiet Man'. We could not have picked a better site. Gerry and Margaret were great, very welcoming and helpful in every way. The site had the basic amenities which suited us, no pool or bar. It is a very quiet site and the toilet's, shower's and camper's kitchen were perfectly clean etc. There were good sized pitches and plenty of room. It is situated only minutes from Cong which is a lovely village and can’t wait to visit the site and Cong again. It is ideal for touring Connemara and the West of Ireland generally. A visit to ‘The Quiet Man’ museum in Cong is a must if you are a John Wayne or Maureen O’Hara film lover the original harness belonging to Napoleon is in the museum. Stayed here for two nights on our tour of Ireland.
The site was very clean and tidy, good shower, toilet facilities but I couldn't get hot water to do hand washing in the laundry.
Wi-Fi access (free) is available in the campers tv lounge.
The site owners are very friendly and full of local information.
Cong, pretty town with a few shops and places to eat, is a 15 minute walk away along the road. Alternatively you can take a longer route through the grounds of Ashurst Castle; (turn right out of campsite and the right again following signs to a hotel) There is some lovely walking in the area and plenty of fishing on the lake.
The only real downside to this site was a lack of hard standing for motorhomes. As the grass was too wet to drive on several vans were all cramped into a small tarmac area.
Also a large part of the site is surrounded by a thick tall fir hedge so the top part of the site can feel a bit enclosed.
Apart from this a wonderful couple of days were spent in Cong and I would definitely recommend it to other campers that need to stay in the area.

The general location of this site is superb. It's on the outskirts of one of the most picturesque villages in this part of Ireland, famous for being part of the set for the Quiet Man, arguably one of John Wayne's finest films.
Cong is the gateway to surely one of Western Europe's best scenic drives that runs along the Northern shore of Lough Corrib, past Maam Bridge, down to the sea lough that is Killary Harbour, then through the mountains, passing fresh water loughs and over bog to Louisburgh and thence to Achill via Croagh Patrick, Westport and Newport.
The site has multiple purposes being both a touring campsite and a hostel. The pitches with electricity are some distance from the amenities, although tent pitches are considerably closer. This is not ideal for anyone who has limited mobility - one has to drive to the toilet block.
The toilet block is shared with the hostel guests and here the limitations of the toilet and showering facilities are apparent. They are dated and the showers have a charge of 1 euro for 6 mins. The changing facilities are communal (thankfully separate for male and female) and not for the bashful as the shower cubicles are only large enough for showering.
The pitches are positioned over a hillock and are consequently not flat and it's therefore difficult to get a caravan or trailer tent level.
The proprietors are welcoming and jolly. At the time that we stayed, credit/debit cards were not accepted, although it sounded like they might be later in the season.
In summary, this site is perfectly positioned for a walk into Cong village with it's pubs and restaurants. It's in a particularly beautiful part of Ireland and ideally situated for a touring base. However, it needs to decide whether it is a hostel or a touring campsite. If it wants to be serious about being the latter, it must provide much better facilities for caravanners and campers that are closer to the camping area and it must address the challenge of providing level pitches.

Run by a very friendly man; he was quite a laugh and a good source of information. There were not many level sites. There is a hostel as part of the site, and the facilities are available to campers and are generally good. The only real complaint was the showers. It's a coin in the slot system, 1 euro for 6 minutes. However, it takes at least 4 minutes 45 seconds for warm water to reach the shower (yes, we timed it on more than one occasion). The only way to keep the water flowing is to keep the button pressed, either while standing in the cubicle (it's very tiny, and hence one has to stand in the cold water), or standing outside the shower and reaching in, which is fine except that one is standing (possibly naked) in a public washroom. I did talk about it with the proprietor and it seems he knows about the problem. It's a good location for touring around Connemara - brilliant scenery.

Have been to this site many times in the past in a caravan, this was the first time in the motorhome.
Outstandingly beautiful area and the site is situated just outside the village, within easy walking distance either via road or through the grounds of the wonderful Ashford Castle.
Was a little disappointed that the toilet/shower facilities that were previously used by campers had been closed and the only ones available were now in the on site hostel, afraid that the lack of privacy for showering was very off putting for me and I ended up using the wetroom in the motorhome.
The office/shop was closed quite often but a phone number was left on the door if you required anything. Cong village is beautiful and everyone was getting ready for the 60th anniversary of 'The Quiet Man' - which is still shown nightly in a small 'cinema' on site, while we were there so there was a great atmosphere all around.
Site is very well maintained, most pitches are on the grass but there is a stoned area beside the playpark that can be used.
The family have run the site for as long as we remember - the 'wee boy' that used to ride his bicycle to show us were to pitch is now a grown man, which is lovely to see!

At 28 Euro this was the most expensive site we stayed on during 2 weeks in the North and South of Ireland. The camp site is on a small hill behind the youth hostel and campers use the toilets and showers in the youth hostel.
There is a well equipped kitchen and dining room though we didn't use these. They would be useful for anyone in a tent in wet weather though.
Like everything in Cong the hostel was themed on the 1952 John Wayne film Quiet Man which is shown nightly in the “cinema” upstairs. The cinema also provides free wi fi which is a real plus given how much other sites charge for this.
Tents pitch on lower slopes of the hill near the youth hostel and BBQ area, caravans and motor homes seem to head for the top of the hill or the flat area on far side. We had a well drained spot on top of the hill. The site was quiet and very sheltered.
Showers are operated by 1 euro coin. As other reviews have mentioned, changing and keeping clothes dry is tricky. The coin slot and timers are outside the toilets/shower room so you have to insert the coin, dash in, undress, try to find a dry bit of floor for your clothes (hooks had broken off some showers), and start the shower. By the time the water warms up, a couple of your 6 minutes have elapsed. On our first morning the water was hot, on the second only lukewarm.
There are only 3 toilets and 4 showers to meet the needs of both the camp site and youth hostel. One shower in ladies was not working and most of the locks on the toilet doors were broken.
The toilets were cleaned each afternoon but quickly became quite dirty with grass dragged in from camp site. Unusually the towels were not paper or hand driers but a collection of grubby hand towels hung on the pipes under the sinks. Often these seemed to end up on the floor.
Pitches are all grass with hook up points irregularly spread around the hill. There are no designated pitches, and we were left to find a flat-ish spot but we were recommended to head for the top of the hill to get better drainage.
The play park was very good. It is supposedly for under 12s and subject to parental supervision but neither rule was ever enforced. Our toddler was the only one being supervised and the other children were mainly teenagers with a colourful choice of language.
We didn't use the laundry as there were warnings about people 'stealing' your tumble drier time, and it was also going to cost 12 Euro to wash and dry a single load.
Cong is pretty with some lovely walks and we also took a boat trip on Lough Corrib. This was basically a half hour sail out to an island to see some ruined churches where we got a 5 minute talk about St Patrick and his role in founding the churches. Its worth noting there are no cash points in Cong so make sure you take cash out in Ballinrobe 10km North of Cong.
Overall this site was quite expensive for pretty basic and dated facilities.

Stayed on this site in June this year. Found the staff more than helpful to learners in the motorhome game. Facilities were excellent and spotless. Within easy walking distance of Cong village, locals more than friendly though some of the pubs could do with a little 'tlc'. Would recommend the 'crazy golf' next door to the site, we passed a great couple of hours in it and had the place to ourselves.

This site was very easy to find and in a good location for visiting this area of Ireland. The facilities well kept very clean and tidy, plenty of showers (1 euro token operated) along with the hooks to hang your clothes and towel up. There was a good laundry room, wash up area and plenty of wash rooms etc. Also the site had a hostel with all the facilities, like a very large kitchen, gas cookers along with fridges, freezers and shelves to store food stuffs, most useful for ice packs and keeping our food fresh.
The kitchen was full of everything one needed for making a meal and eating it, you could then eat it in a nice sizable dining area next to the kitchen. This Kitchen and dining facility was also made available for the people camping in tents to use at no extra cost they called this facility a camp kitchen, which several sites in Ireland seemed to have .On site there was also a large TV lounge to use, and Cong being famous for the film The Quiet Man (a John Wayne film) it was shown every evening if 3 or more wanted to see it.
The site is well laid out caravans and motor homes in one area and tents in another, the pitches are well very well sheltered, spaced out, flat & level , grassy well drained and easy for pegging. All the services electric water etc is all available for the pitches if wanted, and car parking areas near to your tent. The site was very quiet and the manager or staffs was available at any time and most helpful. The golf pitch and put course is a must for the children and all adults it's a large themed area very well laid out and kept nice, it's only a minute's walk away from the site and a small charge to play certainly good fun and well worth it. W
e found the site to be very friendly indeed and well run, kept clean and tidy. The village of cong a few minuets drive away which has most things in the shop. We shall certainly return to this site if ever in the area and do recommend it.
