Absolutely amazing location, good facilities and Staff were so helpful.

Campsite was easy to find, and the breakfast was ideal.

Definitely staying here again!

Great spot at the head of the valley. The hotel offers all that a lightweight hiker needs, at a reasonable price.

I will use this site again. I am a regular hiker in the lake district.

I'm sure it's as everybody says - but I don't know why I am being asked to write a review as we didn't actually get in there. My fault, booked too late and not a reflection on the Campsite at all.

Where we did get in ( & I will take this opportunity to mention it ) was the Camping field at the back of the Church House Inn in Torver. Our field was exclusively tents, camper and caravans had their own spots.

Facilities were clean, if limited (WC & sink only ) inexpensive and unpretentious although when the place is operating fully I am given to understand that there are more WCs and showers available - the pub is closed at the moment for covid/refurb.

There is another pub, coffee shop and deli 100yds away and a public footpath to Coniston Water and along the lakeshore into Coniston.

If you need showers, washing machines, washing sinks, electric hook ups etc - then probably not for you, if you enjoy camping like it always used to be - then well worth considering !

Thank you very much for accommodating our group of 4 plus dog.

It was the busiest I've seen it with visitors, the staff were great and friendly the food on offer is great quality and tasted great with generous portions.

And a big thank you for the camping location while under so much pressure from the herds of visitors

A great time had by all the group especially Maggie the dog who now has completed the 3 peaks.

Fab location and people. Middle of nowhere. Great views and access to Scafell and the lakes.

Will be back soon. Can get cramped when busy.

So quiet and peaceful and the drive in is beautiful

1st night got no sleep, group of revellers partying until 2. 30am, no one around to stop them, 2nd night got smoked out by someone with a fire pit bbq,

Although it is very handy for Scafell I wouldn't stay again, on my way out at 7am almost got run off the road by a member of staff from the pub arriving, not impressed

The site is a small field opposite the Wasdale Head Inn. You are unable to book and it is run on a first come, first served basis. There is limited parking at The Inn car park but plenty of space a hundred yards down the road on the village green. You will have to carry your kit from the car park. This is therefore intended as a short term stop-over for those with smaller tents. There is a larger National Trust site half a mile down the road for camper vans and those with larger tents who need to park up next to their pitch.

There is one shower/disabled toilet (£1/6 minutes hot water) and a further 2 toilets, all secured with combination door locks. There is also a small undercover washing up area. The facilities, although limited, are off an exceptionally high standard and spotlessly clean. The field is level and there is some shelter provided by stone walls. Again, not a site for larger tents as the wind tends to funnel up the valley. The views towards Kirk Fell, Great Gable and across to Scafell are stunning. You pay at The Inn, £5 pppn. The pub bar is excellent. Good food, beer and atmosphere.

If this is what you want, then I would rate this as one of the best.

This small site is part of the Wasdale Head Inn - one of the best places in the Lakes. Amazing views and a base for the some of the best hill walking in the country.

Good facilities and friendly staff at the pub.

A great little site.

Just back from a 3 day stay at this site. I would recommend it highly as a hikers paradise. Field is level and there is shelter by a stonewall but weather was stunning so don't know what protection from the elements that would give. Numerous trails start /finish here. Perfect time of year to avoid the crowds. Surrounded by stunning fells. Pub beer and food were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Toilets and shower immaculate. Shower £1/6mins plenty. Excellent shop on site and for £5 a night best site I've been to. Would definitely stay again.

Ps. Dogs were everywhere, in the pub, the campsite and on the fells. I like dogs but in the lambing season??

Not for kids unless they hike, can cope without phone/wifi?Also a fast flowing river behind the pub.

Handy payphone on site to let Mrs know you're down safe etc.
