A delightful camping ground. Casual style natural lumpy ground, non specific area to pitch, no cut grass so perfect for hay fever sufferers.
The drive way is rough tufts and turrets and has a very low & narrow rail tunnel, take your time as loose animals roam. The lady blasts her truck horn for you to pay around 9pm, there is no reception area you just select your own location.
The facilities are spotless & the shower is hot and powerful. Soaps and shower gel is provided as is a plentiful supply of loo roll, washing up items etc. There is a washing up area & ample waste buckets.
The water is brown and is not suitable for drinking, bring water or a millbank bag if you require to drink their water it as its stream water through adjacent fields. T
He music is charming a real county festival atmosphere. Its in a gazebo but you need to bring your own alcohol as their is no bar or catering. I only saw one in a birthday suit although it is a nudist retreat, perhaps it was too cold for it.
Thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
It is £20 per small tent per night, there was no charge for my dog lots of delightful dogs going about, they come over to give mine a sniff she was delighted with the attention.
The lady herself lives on the ground in a caravan and has 2 lovely collies.
Theres no electric so charge everything before arrival. Its just marvellous. I am going to return for spring break

Spectacular location, potentially very exposed to the weather, but the views and wildlife watching are worth it.
Basic site, with minimal, old but very functional shower/toilet set up Site is right next to the sea, on or in amongst the dunes.
Lots of caravans scattered about in longterm placements, obviously a popular place to return to. It is grazed by sheep just wandering about, be careful where you tread if you have bare feet.
Really quiet stay, loudest things were the birdlife and the waves.
On the NC500 so may get busier, but I will probably return when the weather is warm enough for sea bathing.
Next to a naturist beach if you want that. £20 per night for a smallish tent.

We stayed here for one night on the way into the highlands, and it was perfect. We were in the highlands for a week, and stayed at a couple other places (and looked at many but left/they were full), but Crakaig was by far our faveourite site of the whole trip!
We liked it so much, we went back for a second night because none of the other sites were as nice. The location is absolutely perfect, and the owners are really kind but not intrusive.
It is a lovely quiet site on the beach -- nothing like falling asleep to the sound of gentle waves. Our dog was made to feel at home, and I already want to go back!
For tents, as this is located right beside the beach, some of the pitches are dune-like ground. So have good pegs if you want a pitch like that, as we did!
Otherwise, there looked like some flatter, grassier pitches were available too, but we definitely went right by the water on the dunes both nights, a bit bumpy but worth it.
Cost was brilliant, especially compared to other sites in the highland, and fairly reflected the facilities. Bring lots of drinking water, showers and toilets very basic and could use a little sprucing, but we don't need anything fancy so they were perfectly fine.
We even treated ourselves to Sids takeaway in Brora when we arrived late - it was just what we needed, pizza and wine by the ocean! All the businesses in the area were quaint, and everyone is so so friendly.
Hopefully we'll be back!

Loved it, right by the beach, my husband towed our daughters caravan up for her and I had by Romahome. Our little dog loved his early and late walks on the beach.
The road down was a challenge for me but Julie appeared and reassured me. The first challenge was making sure the bridge was high enough to get under
You cannot drink the water. The water was usually hot in the shower and I only had to wait once for someone to finish showering.
It was so peaceful and we hope to return again. Julie goes round in the evening honking her horn for payment.
The surrounding area is beautiful, seal beach, Dornock, little towns Golspie, Brora and Helmsdale with it's harbour. Then heading towards Rogart if your lucky you will see wild goats, on one occasion I saw 9.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wow wow wow, we love this place. Yea the road in isn't perfect tarmac but hey if you take your time plenty drivable. We have a camper van and our children join us in their cars, 2 fiestas 1 of which is lowered and they managed no bother.
We found a great spot to set up, close to toilets etc. Yes these are basic but very clean and fresh and never out of loo roll or soap. Wash up area again basic but all you need. Hit water available.
Julie pops round at some point and you pay your way each night, we bought logs and enjoyed a lovely campfire each night. Our 2 labradors were made very welcome also.
We love this place, right on the beach side and as others have said very relaxed and peaceful. We live quite local but we love to just jump in the camper and spend a few nights here.
Highly recommended to everyone that's not into the big hotshot lifestyle.

The campsite is half way from brora and helmsdale. You drive down a single track road through a gate and under a narrow railway bridge, through a cow field and then you need to go slow as there is very bumpy track in. 4x4 trucks or motor bikes will be suitable best or a car your not fussed about.
It has a naturist /nudist beach & a lot of spread out caravans all spaced out maybe around 50 over about a mile of rough grass.
The has fully clothes on like normal camping with excellent music until 4am guitars drums & singing tunes like wagon wheel, country road etc. Sort of festival feel.
I'm not sure which all nights the live music is on so check first. It has a set out spot for each campfire in stone circles and a beach.
The lady is super nice and she comes round and see's if your ok and gets ur cash etc so its £15 per tent and sells the fire logs for £5 a box. I think she maybe sings too or plays an instrument during the evening entertainment.
It has a toilet block in the centre its got 2 ladies toilets and a ladies shower with a curtain and soap/ loo roll etc and a washing up area. The water is not for drinking unless you boil it first. We drunk it before we saw the sign and nothing happened to us so it cant be too toxic.
The mens is on the other side of the block it is much the same I expect. There was a lot of motor bikers there with wee tiny tents, they seemed to all know each other but maybe they just all became friends on arrival & then mostly just caravans which seem to stay there permanently.
I deffo don't think a motor home will get through that tunnel or over that rutts in the grounds. A small camper van would get there if you took your time. There was someone with a jet ski, some one in a canoe and that kind of water toy stuff.
Its really cool chilled vibe and no midges coz its right at the beach. It has a play park at the top of the hill for younger kids. Its away from the music and nudist and near the toilets so its been well thought out.
Good signal on ee, o2 and voda for teenagers getting online. It has no electric hook ups at all but most camping stuff is gas anyway and the fire pits are really cozy.
We really enjoyed it and cant wait to go back. I cant think of a negative really its great.

We recently stayed at crakaig. The weather was in our favour. It as close to wild camping as you can get now days. There is plenty of space and even allowed camp fires.
The woman Julie who runs the site will even provide firewood if needed.
Toilet and shower facilities are a bit basic but still clean and shower was hot.
There is two beaches one to the left a family beach and the one to your right is an official nude beach which is sign posted. We did venture to the nude beach as it was a sunny afternoon but we were the only people using it.
As previous poster said the road is very bumpy it's more a farm track so don't take your sports car with you.
Overall a very peaceful and enjoyable experience.

Absolutely brilliant, the views are amazing and the staff are so helpful.
We got a flat tyre and within minutes of calling they were there to help. Australian man really helpful.
We have a cockapoo and he was more than welcomed, by the lovely lady with two border collies.
Wood provided to make campfires. Toilets and shower basic but clean, what more do you need.

Location, location, location but the drinking water has a posted advisory and the dilapidated shower doesn't work.
Okay for a night but not really worth £15.
But the only campsite for miles and that's a monopoly.

Just returned from 2 fantastic nights at this site.
Visited specifically for the naturist beach, which is absolutely magnificent with views galore. The beach is the one round on the what might be south shore, looking back to Brora, and also more sheltered.
Before I start, I once again must stress how happy I was with my visit if any owners or similar are reading this.
Approach from Brora and turn down the road at sign post and drive past farm, round corner and then a very SHARP left hand downhill turn under some trees. This corner is quite steep coming back up.
Access back onto the road is also quite steep and is just over the brow of a hill on the main road so be careful.
Railway bridge has a gate to keep the sheep in which you must open and close behind you. The bridge is 3m wide, rises 2m vertically and then arches over to a maximum height of 3m in the centre ( measured it ! ). I got through with an XLWB Fiat Ducato with a roof rack BUT it was TIGHT. Saw a van the same but with the extra high roof and boy they must have had a squeeze. This is the only access to the site but should be ok for most caravans. Saw a coachbuilt motorhome parked outside the bridge when I left this morning.
As mentioned elsewhere you simply arrive and park where you want and then a nice lady comes around later to check you in and ask for £15 for each night.
There are NO electric hookups. Check your battery !
The toilets are BASIC but functional with 2 toilets and 1 shower per men and ladies. The site is very spread out and it could be a fair walk if you are parked at the top end.
Most vans seem to be here for the season and were quite busy on the Friday night with what looked like weekenders. There were a few families with kids who were really enjoying the simple life.
Would be an ideal stopover for campers, and really it is great that there are still these back to basics sites which are keeping the traditions of simplicity alive.
Have scored the site what I thought made sense to me but only marked down because of the tricky access.
Will be back, as soon as the sun makes a return with some heat !
