As we - my partner, her son and our Bernese Mountain dog - were travelling Scotland with our caravan, we had a serious breakdown with our caravan.
Once we were towed to the Lochcarron Garage and we were helped so kindly and friendly by everyone arround!
The people of Lochcarron must be the friendliest people arround the whole world!
While we had to wait for parts to be sent to Scotland to the Garage we met the wardens of the Wee Camp Site. They are so lovely and friendly people!
THIS CAMPSITE IS COMPLETELY OPENED(!) and is not closed as mentioned in one review prior.
The campsite is basic, but everything is clean and in order!
Once our caravan is repaired, we will come back to Lochcarron next year to visit this campsite and have a good time with the wardens at the bar in the nearby hotel!
Kind regards,
Markus

We have camped here in 2012 and we enjoyed the site, the view and the surroundings. The facilities were basic but clean. Previous reviews mentioned an excess of water on the lower terraces, but the soil was dry then, so no problem there.
Much to my chagrin I found out in June 2013 that the Wee Campsite is closed for visitors, due to illness. So check first if you would want to visit next year.

Our first visit to this site was a 2 night stop over.
This is a nice small site, terraced as previously mentioned however the terraces are just 2 steps up a bank so no issues there and steps are not required.
There is a small adequate toilet block, unisex with 2 toilets and 2 showers all free, washing up is done in a single sink in the same block and the washing up liquid is provided, there s a washing machine run on an extension cable for £1.50 a go.
The drainage on the site isnt the best, avoid the back upper terrace corner nearest the trees, the whole site gets waterlogged in heavy rain.
The soil is soft and thin with slate or small stones underneath, metal pegs seemed ok, plastic pegs had to go in at a shallow angle, too shallow to hold guys down in wind.
Dont miss the waterside cafe, good food and friendly staff.
All in this is a nice sight in a lovely location, the only drawback was the water pooling on the terraces, the top one in particular.
£4 per person under 5s free, we would go back again!

Have stayed here several times over the past 2 years and its a lovely site that I regularly return to.
What isn't often known about the site is the price we pay to stay there is to cover the running costs of the site, with the rest being donated to charity on a regular basis according to the info in the small toilet block.
Yes the campsite is small, on a steep incline with 4 plateaus and the toilet block only has 2 showers and 2 toilets, 4 sinks a washing machine and drinking water tap outside, but it is clean tidy and in a lovely area of the highlands.
There are a cpl of hook up points on the lower levels enabling 6 connections at each hook up point.
The Lochcarron hotel is a few minutes walk away as is the Rockvilla Hotel for meals and the village also houses 2 garages, butchers, large spar shop, post office, bistro, cafe etc.
As with all sites on the western highlands at the height of season midges are a problem so I suggest usual midge repellent and nets.

This is a pleasant 'wee campsite' that overlooks Lochcarron from a well appointed position. The toilet and shower block is basic but free. It appears to have been recently repainted is kept clean. The two showers and two loos are sufficient for the size of the site. At £4 per night, it was very good value.
The only problems we suffered were from a couple of drunks in the next tent but you can of course suffer that on any site.

We have just returned from a few nights camping here and what a lovely little site- thoroughly recommended. We paid £12 a night for 4 people in a large tent. The facilities are adequate but slightly basic but there was a washing machine and washing up liquid which was a nice touch. The site is small - 4 terraces built into the hillside but very cosy, surrounded by trees and the setting is amazing looking right out across the loch.
We had a meal at the Lochcarron Hotel which was super friendly and very tasty. The village also has a petrol station, shop, bistro, bank etc- everything you need.
I would agree with previous post regarding the steep terraces on site- even though it was sunny when we were there it would definitely benefit from a few steps. We will definitely go back!

What a lovely wee site! The owners were lovely. The site is a diamond, small and perfect.
The showers and toilet are nothing fantastic - but they are honest and clean and adequate for the site. There is lots of local info in there about where to eat etc.
The only problem I had were the other campers! People kept leaving the door to the toilet block open and the lights on and the shower switches on! Can't they leave the area as they found it!
Would go back. As soon as I get my bag packed!

A quaint little site, of the type that proper campers normally like to find, and which I too would enjoy in better weather. Unfortunately the tent area was absolutely awash after recent heavy rain. The setting is quite steep - with nice flat terraces for camping on. With a 3ft drop to the next level, one might expect rainwater to drain away nicely from these flat strips, but the landscape to the rear of the site is higher still, and the wetness running down from there kept the ground drenched. It wasn't muddy, but when walking on the grass, water filled our shoes, and it also created enough pressure beneath the tent to force moisture through the groundsheet of our otherwise dependable Vango 350!
Biggest nuisance was not being able to park a vehicle alongside the tent. It had to be parked on the next level below, with a wet slippy grass bank in between. We paid £4 per person per night. There were two other small tents, and two motorhomes, plus two empty parked caravans.
The toilets, showers and washup area were fine for a site this size. And LochCarron is beautiful. The village cafe is open till 8pm - so it was possible to go away each day and still be sure of getting served. We ate there 3 days and camped 2 nights. It was great to see washing being hung out to dry on a line on the shore.
The road from Applecross to Lochcarron is truly spectacular - but I wouldn't fancy doing it with a towed caravan! After climbing to the top of a mountain it plunges via a dramatic series of hairpin bends, with wonderful views and wild deer.
I would happily use this site again, but not after a week of heavy rain. And it would be nice if the owners could build a few steps to get from car level (which is really the hardstanding for campervans) to the upper tent level.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It is a small, quiet site with spectacular scenery. Set in a terraced hill with plenty of tree shelter, there is a very tranquil feel about this place. The owners are friendly, helpful and trusting - even lent me a recipe book on how to cook mussels collected from Loch Carron beach nearby! The facilities block is basic but very clean with toilets, showers, hand basins and dish washing sink. Electric hook up is available at a small extra cost. There is no play area which encouraged our young kids to go walking among the rock pools and explore . much better! There are well stocked shops in Lochcarron a few minutes walk away. We went for trips to Skye, Plockton village and drove up to Loch Torridon which are all within a reasonable distance making it an ideal base. We will definitely use this site again!

Found this little site by mistake while looking for B&B due to the weather. So much rain we ended in Lochcarron after skipping Fort William! Ate at the hotel and it was wonderful. Probably the worst for midges but once pitched it was OK. Very peaceful and the owners are incredibly trusting using an honesty box if they are not around to be paid. Showers and toilets well maintained. All round a little gem!
