August 2003 We arrived at Stanwix and luckily they had touring pitches available on their sister site, Hylton Park, which is under a mile away. We couldn't fault the site at all. The toilet block was immaculate and cleaned regularly. Each cubicle had a toilet, hand basin and bath with shower above. Next door there was a laundry with washers, dryers and irons. They also have two sinks for pot washing if required. Each pitch has its own electric hook-up, water and waste disposal point. Most of the pitches were flat with the odd one on a slight slope. The grass was better than in our garden!
Although Hylton Park doesn't have any other facilities on site, you only have to go down the road to Stanwix (10-15 min walk) and all the facilities you could ask for are there. Once you have paid for your pitch the facilities are free of charge, except things like games machines and ten-pin bowling etc. One thing that we did notice on this site was that, even though it was fairly busy, it was very quiet. Children played and laughed and ran about but the noise seemed to disappear.
We came upon this site by chance but we will definitely be going back. At first we said that we would book in future and stay on Stanwix itself but after staying there a week we have decided that we like having the best of both worlds and would book again for Hylton, plenty of space, quiet but with all the action a young family could possibly need within walking distance. Well done Stanwix!

Easter 2003 Hmm, where do I start? Its a bit of a mixed review for this site.
On the plus side
The facilities are second to none, toilet blocks are cleaned thrice daily and have individual cubicles each containing toilet, basin, bath (nice big ones) and shower making the morning wash and brush up much less of a boot camp line up. Each plot has its own water, hook up and waste making the daily trip to the taps redundant. Kids clubs are very well run in the evening and keep the rug rats out of the way while you retire to the adults only lounge for the evening entertainment. There is a pool which is child safe and life guards are there while it is open.
On the average side
Beware of the mixed sex changing room for the swimming pool (the wife told me this one, it wasnt me who got caught ;-) The bowling alley is good fun but a bit pricey at £3 per person per game at peak times. £12 for a family of four, playing a game which lasts 20 minutes is a bit much (after already purchasing a week long leisure pass)
On the negative side (please realise that these are only my findings, over one four day stay and may not be the norm)
Unruly kids (and Dads) were running amock all weekend. The electric hook-up was being unplugged by kids all the time, 9 times in one night, the last being past midnight. The saturday was like showdown at the OK Coral with at least 15 fathers squaring up. This area of Cumbria must only have a couple of police cars per 100 square miles on duty each night but every night of our stay they were in attendance.
The negative negative side
The site policy of no food or drink allowed into the entertainment complex is too rigorously enforced. My 9 year old son was not impressed but non too fussed at losing the half eaten packet of crisps at the door, my 8 month old daughter was devastated when her packet of chocolate buttons were taken off her and given to a stranger.
