We opted for this site as it was very close to Leeds Castle where we were visiting the Christmas Fayre. Both unfortunately were disappointing.
The site is very simple, uninteresting, plainly laid out with hard standing pitches.
Reason for unimpressed review? Although we didn't want pretty this really was just utility. Pitch sizes ok, could do with wider hard standing. We only used the toilet and showers. Good warm water but despite lots of room no cubicle for a private wash. Shower cubicle very cramped and not enough hooks. Although nice and clean My pet hate of hair in all 3 of the sink plug holes, yuk! Apparently in the gents there was no heating and no loo paper.
And this mediocrity was £25 a night! Sorry, but very overpriced.
As the site was also down some narrow lanes which weren't particularly friendly to our Swift Freestyle 690L butadjacent to a quite busy, noisy road we decided to move on to another site in the area for our second night.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We had originally enquired about another campsite a few miles away, but having arrived there we hastily left - the tents had to be sited right next to the river bank which smelt stagnant and awful, and the (very temporary looking) toilets and other facilities were at the top of a very steep slope a fair distance away. We were also told that the neighbours might shout at us when we drove down the access road to the site, because they didn't like people camping near to them. We then spent ages searching online, and found The Finches whilst doing so. We rang to see about availability, considering we really needed something there and then, and the lady we spoke to was really nice - she said we could just turn up anytime, there was plenty of space and she looked forward to seeing us. The site is located along a country road, so its lovely and peaceful and in the middle of the countryside, however its only a few miles from a huge Morrisons supermarket and petrol station so its a very quick and easy job to get supplies etc. There are several pubs close by which do nice food which isnt too expensive, so eating out wasn't a problem either. The large town of Maidstone is just a few miles away, with several other smaller villages also within easy reach. And of course, Leeds Castle is only just up the road. We arrived and just could not believe our luck in finding the place online - the lady wed spoken to came out straightaway to welcome and greet us (I think she is the site manager), and spent plenty of time outlining the site and facilities. She took us around the toilet and shower block and showed us the laundry room, games room and children's playground. There was also a small caravan next to the children's playground which has been put there just for the kids to play in - what a fantastic idea! Although it didn't rain when we were there, if it had done you knew youd got the games room and the playground caravan to shelter and play in as well. Because they weren't busy she said we could choose where we wanted to pitch our tents, and we were able to drive straight to our chosen spot and leave the cars next to our tents throughout our stay with no problem. We paid £15 per tent per night, which compares very favourably with other sites in the area. And the best bit is you really do get your moneys worth: included in the charge you get car parking next to your pitch, loads of electric hookups and water points dotted about everywhere, unlimited use of the very fully stocked games room (I struggled to get my 6 year old son out of it!), unlimited use of the showers and even free use of a washing machine and tumble dryer if you needed them! There were absolutely no hidden extras, in fact we couldn't believe how many facilities were included in just £15 per tent per night. And the lady was brilliant - she said that either she or her husband were there 24 hours a day, and in fact their caravan was right opposite the main toilet and shower block so they were more than readily available. She was always easy to find, so you didn't have to hunt about if you needed anything - and every time we saw her she asked how everything was, and whether we needed anything. The toilets and showers were beautiful - I think they had been recently installed - and were constantly kept spotlessly clean and in full working order. There was a disabled shower / toilet which was huge - and the lady said I could take my little boy in there if it would be easier (which it definitely was!) and that was fine. She obviously took great pride in keeping everything up to scratch and clean, and did a fantastic job of it. The pitches are set amongst small plantations of pine trees, so they were very well sheltered and beautifully located. Although other people were camping at the same time as us, and there were several caravans pitched on the other side of the site, we weren't disturbed by rowdiness or anything like that at all. We were allowed to have a barbecue whenever we wanted, and stayed up late chatting without anyone getting annoyed (we weren't that noisy, honest!) We had an absolutely fantastic stay there, and cant wait to go again - hopefully during August bank holiday. Its an absolute little gem, and we were so lucky to find it. I give it 11 out of 10 for our stay! Fantastic, well done ! :O) x
