Stayed here over Easter.
Was a bit down about the site when first booked, but was pleasantly surprised. The site holds five caravans, on hard standing pitches.
The site is adjacent to the rowing club car park. The showers were in the club house, but were accessible when people were around to let you in.
They were warm and spacious.
We paid £10 a night and that included 16amp electric.
The site is in a great location, a 15 minute walk along the river and your in Durham centre.
Also close to the A1.
We would return to this site again if we were visiting the area again.

We stayed here three nights in early September 2012. The site is very small and the pitches are squeezed into an area at the side of the rowing club car park although, as other reviewers have said, you are not that close to your neighbours.
However, this site has one of my “pet gripes” in that, whilst the site advertises hardstanding pitches, you have to track across grass to get to them! Not an immediate problem in the summer/autumn, but it may be in the depth of winter as the site is open all year!
The clubhouse toilet & shower facilities [& bar] are available to site users but only when the club is in use. The showers are clean, spacious and with lots of hot water. If you needed a quick getaway in the morning, you would need to be able to use your own facilities or find someone with the entry code to get you into the clubhouse. Having said that, this is all explained on the club website & site notice board. We did find that the “day to day” maintenance of the clubhouse left a bit to be desired, esp. The lack of toilet paper in the loos. Also, if the club has a function on, the car parking close to the perimeter of the site can obstruct the entry/exit and this would have been a concern if you needed to get away in an emergency.
The site is, however, superbly located for access into the centre of Durham, being only a 15 minute walk along the river bank to be in the main shopping & touristy area. Riverbank walks to the south towards Shincliffe are also possible with a few stopping off points like pubs and a garden centre with a tea room.
We never did find the facilities manager who had taken our booking despite a couple of attempts to find him! Having paid “up front” there was no real need but it would have been nice to have been able to meet the person that we had had e-mail contact with.
Overall a very convenient site for Durham centre but just a little more effort from the club itself would make a visit a bit more enjoyable.

Just stayed for 3 nights, location to Durham is good
Just 10 minutes walk from city centre.
Very narrow lane one vehicle width getting down to site, could be tricky if you meet something coming other way.
Information now displayed on a board, it says units should generally be off site by 12 o'clock but we were told they are not bothered if units stay as long as electric hookup is unplugged
Bar available from 7pm but will close if no one is using it.
Showers and toilets available they are communal to share with the rowing crews, you are not given keys so have to ask any club members to let you in.
Still no marked pitches and site uneven but they intend to do this, does get busy at weekend with rowing crews but we had an enjoyable weekend would
Would use site again if visiting Durham.

This site site in good location, however promise of improvments are still to materialize, (4th vist), the site is uneven and levellers are required.
The bar and facilities are good when open but not everyday.
This could be an excellent site with a bit more thought and care, making pitch numbers would help to therefore avoid confusion.
Information board as yet is empty, we would be grateful of details of nearby facilities as often on arrival there are no members of the club present.

This was our first visit to the City Boathouse CL and stayed 2 nights. We were very pleasantly surprised. Even though they have allocated only a small area for the site none of the pitches were too close to each other. Two of the pitches backed on to the river. There was only one hardstanding but were told that four more hardstandings are to be put down over the next few weeks. Facilities were excellent with caravanners having electric hookups and being able to use the shower and toilet facilities of the rowing club. The club bar was open on an evening from 7 - 10pm and we were made very welcome. Walks from the site are lovely. A 20 minute walk along the river into Durham City centre where there are a wonderful array of shops and restaurants as well as the wonderful Durham Cathedral.
The club is a very active rowing club and it was lovely being able to watch all the rowers out on the river.
At £10 a night the site offers very good value for money and it is somewhere that we would be very happy to visit again.
