Somebody in a previous review nailed it when they said that this is an extremely basic site at a premium price. And, by 'premium', I mean expensive.
Taking account of the very basic facilities (one female toilet and two male toilets plus a couple of urinals in a delapidated porta-kabin; two showers affording no privacy unless you commandeer the porta-kabin for yourself and lock the entrance door) then the basic fifteen pounds per pitch isn't too bad nowadays. Add a fiver (yes a fiver a night!) for the electric hook-up, though, and it gets a bit silly. A quick calculation tells me that a fiver a night works out, pro-rata, at more than eighteen hundred pounds a year.
The tendency of the owners to cram as many units into the available space as possible means that tents are very close to each other and there is no, or very little, room for a car.
The hook-ups are a laugh. There is a spider-web of extension cables running left, right and centre. I am surprised that the system works and I have doubts about its safety.
The free-roaming chickens and other fowl are cute, but they have learned to scavenge and they're adept at leaving presents on the grass in front of your tent.
On our pitch, the soil seemed to be about three inches deep and the rubble beneath it considerably deeper.
The owners seem to be a friendly bunch and they seemed to have a full-time job on their hands trying to keep the limited toilet facilities in a slightly less than repellent state.
With a little investment, this could be a decent site. With the right weather, the location is pretty much excellent. I cannot help but suspect that people will continue to write about the poor amenities for a few years to come.

Just got back from a weekend away at their holiday cottage. Well what can I say we are a family of 7 and there was so much space. Owners and family are so friendly and welcoming, my children did not want to leave as they could be children as the area outside is well maintained and a brilliant play area. Quality of bedding provided are high quality. The site is also a campsite which was quiet this time of year but toilets and showers are kept clean. This is the place to stay if you want to visit salburn by the sea, Whitby, walk across the moors or to just chill. Looking forward to our next stay either in holiday cottage or camping

Just returned from a weekend in the lovely holiday cottage, which was warm, clean, and comfortable.
The peacocks made us smile and the cats made us laugh. The horses just yawned.
Redcar, saltburn, staithes and whitby were all close by if you wanted to go off site. We decided to visit saltburn and staithes. Both very nice places and well woth a visit.
Would certainly use this site again and would recommend it to friends as well

We had a fantastic stay at Golden Hill Farm. The site is beautiful and the views are outstanding. It's a great base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire coastline.
The family are warm, welcoming and helpful. The farm animals delighted and entertained our children, I think they would have been happy even if we never left the site for the duration of our stay.
The site is safe and enclosed, with a fantastic children's play area. It was very quiet when we stayed, but even when full to capacity there will be plenty of space for children to play, and you won't be pitching right next door to neighbours.
The gypsy caravan we stayed in, Daisy, was the smaller of the two, but we still had sleeping space for 2 adults and 2 small children. It was essential to keep tidy to have enough room in the van, but we found there was plenty enough storage space to keep it uncluttered. It had all the cutlery we needed for a family of 4 other than lacking a sharp knife and a chopping board, and tea towels (although we took our own anyhow). My only criticism of the van was the lack of curtains, which meant that our early risers were up at the crack of dawn (until I found the drawing pins and pinned towels up over the windows at night).
We spent lovely nights around a camp fire in the beautiful middle of nowhere under the trees and stars, it was the perfect way to unwind.
The facilities are basic, and although we never had to queue, I can imagine in busy times there may be some waiting. That being said, they were always lovely and clean with enough hot water, and totally sufficient for what we needed.
My daughter rated the site 100/10 on the first day and 200/10 when we left. We didn't want to leave and will certainly be stopping again.

Just got back from a 10 night stay was only supposed to be a 7 night but enjoyed our selves that much stayed longer. Camp site is in a beautiful location and is so tranquil. Toilet always clean and showers always had constant hot water. While we were there carol the owner had a fundraiser for UNICEF which was a brilliant night. A great central location for visiting Whitby, salt burn by the sea, runs wick bay, sans end and Redcar. Owners Carol and Karl and children were great friendly generous hosts. We will definitely return back to Golden Hill Farm we will be booking our next visit very soon.

Just had a great bank holiday weekend. 5 of us plus dog in own caravan and 2 in hired gypsy caravan. Lovely clean, quiet, safe site, basic showers and toilet block. Visited Runswick Bay and Staithes which were close by. Also walks from the site ideal for the dog. Gypsy caravan was great with picnic bench and fire pit outside (logs provided for the first night). The owners and their children were more than helpful! Great weekend we will certainly be returning!

In a lovely location, remote and quiet but only 15mins. From Whitby.
Stayed a weekend in their gypsy caravan - warm (radiator provided), tidy, and plenty of storage space. Chair&table provided for the outside with a fire pit - perfect!
Cannot comment on showers as did not use them, female toilet clean and working. Washing up area very small but we did not need much space for our cups and bowls. Site very quiet during our visit, appeared well cared for from what we can see as everything was covered in snow!
A very warm welcome from owners who were very helpful and made sure we were not wanting anything. Will surely return!

This site is in a beautiful location. It's safe for children not noisy. Its the perfect location for visiting the north Yorkshire coast. The gentleman on site was friendly and helpful. There was hard standing pitches plenty of electric points and water.
There was a toilet block neither mens or ladies had a light bulb in and neither had hot water. I took my own toilet roll as the ladies had none plus a torch to use a night. When we asked regards the showers we were told there was none. We did not see any shower Block either ? There was a sink to wash pots in outside the toilets again not hot water.
The field was covered in horse manure which if you had small children it could cause a problem. This site would be lovely if the problems were rectified as judging by previous posts they still have not been addressed. A shower is needed also.

Visited this site at the start of August, the site itself is well presented, tidy and has a good sized children's playing area.
The facilities in so much as the shower block and toilet block would benefit from modernisation, however they are fit for purpose.
There are a good number of electric hook up points in comparison to overall space.
The water outlets could do with being better signposted.
The surrounding towns aren't so much tourist friendly but there is a CO-OP and a few other shops available.

The site has great potential as it's in a good location and is small enough to allow children to play away from your tent, there were animals on the site which adds to the feel of the site. The main let down is the facilities, the toilets had no paper, the bins were full when we arrived and still full when we left 3 days later. There was only 1 shower for the whole site which wasn't too much of a problem as the site wasn't full. The washing facilities only had cold water and the water just poured out the bottom of the sink. With a bit of TLC this site could be really great but I doubt we would go back to find out.
