Great location and walking distance to shops, pubs, restaurants and post office. Good location for touring. The site is lovely with a few hard standings. Very well tended areas and pleasant aspects overlooking natural water features a good place for fishing.
The pitches very too close together, if you request fully serviced pitch no hassle but, take special adaptors for water and waste connections.
Toilet waste is emptied in full view of passes by which I did not like. The toilets and showers are where this site is let down in a big way, inadequate for the size of the site and very unclean, sorry for these comments as the owner is a very pleasant chap and a works hard on the site upkeep.
Overall a good site, but look at those facilities.

The location of this site is fantastic. Its only a few minutes walk from Stamford Bridge which has 3 nice pubs, Chinese, Curry, Fish &chips, a Co-op and a butchers.
We had a meal in the Indian restaurant which was really nice and bought BBQ food from the butchers which was delicious.
The site is only a few hundred yards from the main York to Bridlington road.
We had a really nice pitch overlooking the small lake. Some pitches here are a little close together or on the small side, although it did seem that tenters/non EHU had more room. In any event it wasn't a problem to us.
Although toilet and shower facilities are small we never had to wait to use them. The shower was a real shower with a temperature dial, not one of those annoying push button ones. It was really powerful. Also no annoying key operated lock on the door.
All staff were very helpful and friendly with few rules. We were even allowed to stay slightly later than usual on departure day which I thought was a really nice touch.
Cost for 2 adults with electric was £20 per night.
Overall a really well run nice site which I can highly recommend.

Great site, ideally situated, close to plenty of eateries; Chinese, Fish & Chip shop, Indian, Pizza. Good selection of pubs. Pharmacy and all kinds of useful shops, including a fantastic butchers; all walking distance from site. Absolutely beautiful village.
Fishing pond on site too shallow to be any use to serious angler. (Less than 12' in places found average depth to be 18' when plumbed this will have lead to stunted stock and may be bigger problem when it freezes over).
Very friendly and helpful site manager. (I think he's called Steve).
Reasonable rates, personally think electric charge (£2/day) is high, supplement for over 2 adults excessive (we have 2 kids). By the time you have paid all supplements, you could be on a full service site, with more / larger amenities.
On the plus side, £2 per night for leaving van was a real bonus.
Will definitely visit again.

This camp site is brilliant we have been going here now for the past 3 months, and not got a bad word to say about it. The warden is great, he is a friendly person and helpful could not ask for a better camp site. It as got fishing pond, toilets are always clean, and also the site is very clean. Some of the season pitches the people are friendly, thinking about a season pitch myself for next year. Looking forward to next camping trip.

Had a lovely time at this gem of a site. Our pitch was between the river and the lake. The warden and reception staff were very friendly. The showers/toilets are small but adequate and you can use the showers on the static side, ALL the showers are extremely powerful with plenty of hot water. Stamforde Bridge is a few minutes walk away, a quaint little village with several pubs, a lovely fish & chips shop, indian, chinese, kebab shop and a co-op. Lovely riverside walk beside the river Derwent. The site is nice and peaceful, very relaxed with lots of friendly people. We would definitely return here.

We have just returned from this lovely little gem of a site after a very relaxing weekend.
Arrived on Friday teatime and was told which pitch number by the Warden and left to pitch and set up on a lakeside pitch. The office closed at 5 so if you arrive later you will have to let them know.
The lake itself is more of a large pond with an island in the middle (complete with duck house) but nevertheless our 6 year old loved fishing and riding his bike making lots of new friends and generally having a great time.
The lake is better for older children or smaller supervised kids as there are no fences etc to keep little ones out of the water.
The facilities are small but adequate and very clean. In the ladies area there is a shower cubicle with a WC and hand basin (I am told the gents is the same) and two extra toilets at one end of the block with the dishwashing area (with 2 sinks) at the other end. Bins and chemical toilet disposal areas are outside. As each shower room can only accommodate one person there will be queues in busy times. We used our caravan shower so it wasn't a problem.
The staff were friendly and the site is lovely and peaceful with plenty of space for active kids to run around and make their own entertainment.
Stamford Bridge is very close and has great facilities and a warm and friendly welcome. The Balloon Tree Farm Shop has a Pick Your Own and Cafe which were both excellent and is less than 5 mins drive away.
We would definitely recommend this site and we will be returning.

Just spent 3 nights at this site over the bank holiday weekend.
We had a minor disaster (with our electrics) getting there, so it was nice to be greeted by a lovely friendly gentleman (warden), who not only showed us to our pitch (no's 14/15), but was also helpful to us to sort our electrics problem.
Our pitch was lovely (although did require levellers), we were sandwiched between the river and the lake in a lovely peaceful hamlet of a few caravans, so plenty space between pitches.
Although the EHU's were 16amp, the electric went off a couple of times, we found out later that this was to the whole site (electricity board had to attend), so bejond the sites control.
The toilet block is small, but adequate.
The town itself is a lovely walk into (just a few minutes away), and has a nice mix of shops, so most things you need should you have forgotten something.
We enjoyed our stay at this site and will return again.

We found this site because our normal 'long weekend away' site on the banks of the River Ouse was still flooded. What a happy accident it was. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly staff member who showed us our pitching options, then left us to it rather than watch me make a fool of myself reversing the caravan, on this occasion, I made a reasonable effort but only because no one was watching.
We selected a pitch alongside the lake and close to the mains water, of which there were plenty, we had magnificent views over the lake and it's wildlife.
The toilet/shower/washing up block was very clean and adequate for our needs, there were also larger similar amenities on the sister static site a few metres away including washer and drying facilities.
We had our 2 youngest grandkids with for a couple of days, they spent almost every waking moment trying to net a monster from the lake, I think their catches totalled 8/10 tiddlers. Also guesting with us was the grand-dog, and he loved it, lots of open space and rabbits to try and catch
Within 4/5 minutes walk we could reach 3 Pubs, fish & chip shop, Chinese & Indian takeaways, a small reasonably priced supermarket and a very good Butcher specialising in Barbeque meat.
Overall a very good site, so good that 'she' who is very difficult to please, insisted that we go back to the site next month. Suits me.

HAD A 2 NIGHT STAY AND TEND TO AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWS. LOVELY SITE SET BESIDE THE LAKE WITH THE RIVER DERWENT ADJACENT. PITCHES FAIRLY FLAT NEAR THE LAKE IF A LITTLE ON THE SMALL SIDE BUT VERY PLEASANT.
YORK MAZE A 10 MIN DRIVE AWAY FOR A GREAT DAY OUT AND STOP FOR GOOD FISH AND CHIPS IN STAMFORD BRIDGE. A FEW SHOPS AND A COUPLE OF PUBS IN THE TOWN SQUARE TOO.
A POINT TO REMEMBER IS DURING BUSY TIMES I THINK THE TOILET/SHOWER BLOCK COULD A BIT ON THE SMALL SIDE, BUT WAS VERY CLEAN.
A GREAT SITE IN A GREAT LOCATION AND WOULD RECOMMEND.

We have just come back from a great two night stay at this site. On our arrival we were met by someone who worked there who showed us where we could pitch our tents. We were led to a massive green area and basically told that we could pitch up wherever we liked as all other people had left that morning. We pitched up towards the edge opposite the lake and the kids had a huge area to play in.
The toilet/shower block was just a short walk away and was very clean. There was also a second toilet/shower block further into the park which could be used if need be which also had coin operated washer/dryers although we never had to go to the second block.
The site itself is set in a lovely picturesque setting in a lovely village which was surprisingly busy on the Sunday when we arrived. We needed a cash point so got in the car in search of one thinking there would be a long drive but were pleasantly surprised to find that there was one less than a minutes drive away (5 minutes on foot) inside the local Co-op shop which didn't charge to use it. There is a chip shop which does the best chips and also three or four different pubs if that's what you want. There is also a pharmacy, butchers, doctors and vets amongst other things.
This is definitely the best camp site we've stayed at since taking up camping last year and will definitely look at going again in the future.
