Hello all, not a review, more an update and comments from the management of Wild woodland camping, Knockholt:
Thank you to our guests for the kind comments and advice, we hope that on your next visit all or most of your suggestions have been implemented. (e. G. More lavatories, shower, basin, car park etc. )
Several guests have mentioned the distance from the car park to the woodland. We were happy to offer tractor delivery of gear, however, “elf n safety” have put the block on that. So we now have a new car park adjoining the woodland together with some more wheelbarrows, which we hope guests will remember to return to the car park once used.
Another downside mentioned which had us all puzzled was noise form the M25 (about 3-4 miles distant). The A21 (more then a mile off in the valley) we thought may be the culprit with heavy traffic and a prevailing wind, but it did not fit…. Then it dawned on us! A neighbouring farm to the west has a lake with a waterfall, which when running discharges quite a flow from a height onto rocks and when the wind is right, now it has been mentioned it does sound remarkably similar to the tyre noise from traffic at speed on a wet concrete road. Mystery solved!
Patrons please note: we wish all our guests a quiet and relaxing time, we welcome all suggestions regarding improvement, please do not hesitate to convey your thoughts to us.

This place is excellent, it's made it into my top 3 campsites - at No 1. It's got it all. The pitches are setup in individual clearings in the wood in such a way that you can forget that anybody else is there.
Facilities - I don't class them as basic, you've got 2 loos (mens and womens) extremely clean and tidy hidden away using camo netting. Cold running water (I class portaloos as basic facilities, and these are not portaloos).
A washing up sink.
Stand pipe.
Shower - you have got to try the shower, it is exhilarating!
Did I mention each clearing has a fire pit???
If you like fishing then it has a well stocked very well landscaped pond. It was my nephews first time fishing and it offered just the right level of difficulty. He managed to catch 5, which means he's caught the fishing bug now :-)
Lovely walks to some very nice local pubs.
Kamilla and her husband couldn't be more welcoming and helpful.
The name of the campsite should explain all 'Wild Wood Camping' which is exactly what it wants to give you, with a few home comforts.

There were 7 of us - 2 adults and our 5 children ranging from 2 - 15 years of age.
We arrived on Friday and was greeted by the lady who runs the campsite (Karmila), a very nice and very helpful lady, we booked to stay for 3 nights and once we were booked in she showed us around the site, which consists of the most beautiful pitches we have ever been to.
We stayed in Gruffalo's lair (each pitch has it's own name) which we put our 8 man tent on and this only took up a quarter of the pitch (if that). It was lovely and private and great for the younger children especially my 2 year old as he was contained within our pitch and did not need to worry about him running off,
The facilities included ladies and Gents toilets( one of each which were always very clean, probably cleanest we have seen). There was an incident where people had blocked the toilets up by shoving toilet rolls down them but Peter was there straight away to sort it out,
There was also facilities for washing up although I didn't see these as we take our own washing up bowl etc. Also there was a shower but again this was not something I used during our stay.
We have a trailer with all our camping bits in and we were worried about access to the site with it as I had read on here that it is a bit of a trek to the pitches which you cannot take cars to. It was not a problem though, I had already had a call from the owners before we had arrived to assure us that one way or another they would get us to our pitch stress free and that they did, the tractor was loaded up with all our belongings and with us on the back drove us to the pitch.
AS I said above the pitches were lovely each with it's own fire pit, Wood was purchased from the owners for £6.00 a night and that gave us plenty of wood for a fire from about 5 in the evening till about midnight, we even had some left over each night so was able to have a small fire in the mornings if we wanted to.
The surroundings were beautiful, so much woodland to walk through, with lots of wildlife around including fields with horses in which the children loved seeing.
Lots of surrounding pubs and a short drive to local shops and supermarkets.
All in all we loved this campsite and I could go on all night about it. All I can say is we will def be going back. Just about to email now to book weekends for June and July.
Just one last thing another reviewer said they could hear the motorway, we didn't hear any traffic whatsoever, only the odd plane going over but even that wasn't very often.
All in all a gorgeous campsite and Karmila and Peter the owners were very helpful and very nice, couldn't have asked for anything better.

We also spent the weekend at Wild Woodland on their 2nd weekend of business. We are a couple with a 15 month old baby.
We had a lovely time. The woodland is fantastic and the little individual pitches are simply gorgeous - surrounded by bluebells, a lovely open fire - just divine. The toilet was very clean. We had lots of fun wheeling our baby backwards and forwards in wheelbarrows and she loved the horses. There is tons of wildlife and we wish we had taken up the offer to be given a tour of the horses.
A really nice walk to the local pub on Sunday was great too - it has a decent Sunday lunch menu and a large garden with a playground and bouncy castle for the kids. There was a little beer festival whilst we were there and great weather which helped too.
Be warned that you will have to walk a way from your car to your pitch - but we liked the fact that we were isolated. There was also the chance to get 'tractored' to your pitch. I had a go on the back of the tractor which was TONS of fun! As you have your own individual clearing you feel quite secluded in your pitch - although there was plenty of opportunity to meet others out and about if you wanted.
The only downsides, compared to more rural sites, is that you can hear the M25 at night and also it never gets properly dark - but then as nearby Londoners we were delighted to be able to go camping somewhere so beautiful, so close to home that this was a small sacrifice. Some people may prefer to have a shower and some washing up facilities, but this wasn't really a problem for us - certainly not for a weekend.
We also had a great day doing an off-road 5 mile bike ride from nearby Tonbridge to Penshurst Place and back again - if cycling is your thing. It was a good one to do with the baby due to it being off-road.
Anyway, I wish success to Kamilla and her husband. Like the above poster, I am also sad to recommend this campsite in a way, as I suspect we'll struggle to get a booking in the future.

We went to this campsite the last weekend of April 2011. After a chat with the owner it turned out to be only the second weekend that they'd been operating.
There was a group of 9 of us plus a 9 month old baby plus a cockerspaniel puppy. Finding the general area was easy but the campsite itself proved a little more difficult to find. Just look out for the stables and you shouldn't go wrong.
The bad things about this campsite well if you get picky you could say there's only one toilet but that's about all.
The good things, everything else. I love this site and pretty much everyone in the group did. The welcome at the site from Kamila was lovely. The atmosphere was lovely. The site was lovely. The woodland and the bluebells and the cooking on the open fire and the horse and the walk to the pub and the lack of crowds, all lovely.
It makes me sad to recommend this site because it means that other people will book it and it will be more difficult for me to do so. I will be back to this site many times I'm sure.

A little daunting when you first arrive - big green gates and it's hard to know where to go to check in but when we got in we had a friendly welcome from Kamila.
We were shown to our pitch (Gruffalo's Lair) and it was amazing! Completely set back from the main track in our own area of bluebell woodland.
The pitch was an excellent size for our 3 man tent and had its own fire pit which we used both nights with wood bought from Fairtrough for £5.
We walked our kit to the pitch but you could also opt for a handy tractor ride up there too. You couldn't see any of the other pitches so the only noise we heard was from the birds. It really was as if you were in the woods all alone.
The toilet was very clean but don't expect much more as you are in the middle of the woods - which is just what you want when you go to a site such as this. I wouldn't advise taking older children - not a lot for them to do.
Felt very safe too.
Good pub down the road (10 minute walk).
We had a fantastic stay and will be returning but book up quick as this place is such a beauty I think it will be fully booked for the rest of the season.

This is great spot easy to find and a great welcome BY T&C even a lift from the station an back again:)) (small fee) plenty of safe parking. And woodlands have to be seen to be believed they are best I have visited in four years camping. Stayed in Skylark, each area has its own name and fire pit which is placed an hidden well. Nearest other camp is 20/40meters away an no noise heard buy me or pals. Great walks and loads of wild life to see. I will be back.
Clean toilet. No shower yet.
Got loads of dried wood from C&T $5

At around £40 per family, per night, Wild Woodland might be one of the most expensive campsites you will ever stay at. However, with its beautiful surroundings and unique individual plots it could almost be justified in charging such high fees.
There are though a number of problems. For a start, the camping areas are a quarter of a mile away from the car park. The owners will transport your gear by tractor (although there's no guarantee of help on the return journey). To some this may sound all very 'cool camping' but the long trek up the deeply rutted track won't be much fun after a heavy downpour. It's a long way for small children too.
Also, there's only one toilet. It is indeed very clean but, for a medium-sized site like this, is probably an invitation for campers to make their own bathroom arrangements in the woods. Drinking water must be boiled but you'll probably be OK ignoring this (our party didn't experience any problems).
In its present state, the campsite's ideal for backpackers. It's early days though and no doubt the problems will soon get sorted.
