We were the only family foolhardy enough to camp here last weekend, and it was rather muddy underfoot. However, the location and seclusion of the site, and the chance to have a campfire far outweighed the sticky conditions!
It is hard to believe that this campsite is within the M25, although I did find the aeroplane noise rather intrusive, especially late at night. It is a very rural situation, with bluebells and birdsong galore. My 10 year old daughter is desperate to go back as she wants to follow the farmer's advice and watch for badgers and deer (she slept in too late to try this time!)
The campsite is very secure, there is nothing to say that there is even a campsite. The gates were locked with a combination padlock. Kamila and her husband were very friendly and welcoming, giving us the choice of pitch and then directing the only other people brave enough to camp to the other side of the wood.
The facilities are basic, one flushing toilet for men and one for women, with an emergency chemical toilet also on site. No hot water, but plenty of cold running water, a separate washing up sink and drinking water tap a distance away from the toilets, and the famous shower (turned on by daughter, but not actually experienced!)
We had plenty of logs for the campfire for two nights and two breakfast fires, and it was very nice being able to huddle around it!
We visited Chislehurst Caves on the Saturday, and they were good fun, with the excellent tour guide managing to turn a cocky 10 year old into a quivering, hand-holding scaredycat.
This is a gem of a campsite, although relatively expensive, especially when you factor in paying for the firewood, but I would happily pay that bit extra to have the uniqueness of camping in the woods with a campfire, but still close to plenty of activities and shopping amenities. Definitely worth persevering with the booking (we played phone/email tag for a couple of days before managing to book).
Any of the marking down I have done is purely because of the aeroplane noise, however, I'm sure that after a few days here, you'd become immune to it. And the facilities are basic, so can't be marked higher. We did love this site and will definitely be returning.

Fantastic location, perfect individual plots for fire pitch.
The owners are very helpful and kind. We had our own key for campsite gate (good idea, campsite is safe) so we could go in and out anytime.
We received a map of nearby surrounding so it was easy to move around.
The toilets – 1 lady, 1 man and one chemical were very clean, but we think that more toilets in the future would be convenient.
We visited a close pub ‘The Three Horses’ which we are highly recommend. You can get there by walking through fields and part of a forest where you can hear sounds of the wildlife.
We had an amazing time, even though we stayed only 1 night but we definitely will come back again.

Stayed here on Saturday for one night, 5 girls all in our 20s.
It was in a fantastic location so close to where we live but felt so far away with the country lane approach.
When we arrived slight confusion of what we had to do, only found it because of previous reviews on here about the green gate. There's no signs telling us it was a campsite.
Once paid and collecting our key (great idea) we headed down to the campsite car park where we met her husband who was very helpful he showed us to our pitch and took our fire wood for us (5 pounds, don't forget your fire lighters). Taking all our stuff to the pitch was made fun and easy with wheel barrows.
WOW our pitch was great all with their own individual names ours was sky lark. Totally secluded with a fire pit we had 2 3 man tents and a small storage one, with all this up and chairs round the fire we could still had a couple more tents.
One of our friends arrived quite late and after speaking to Kamilla she was more than happy to let her in ourselves an then pay her in the morning.
The whole site is great you can see other peoples fires and tents through the forest but we didn't actually see anyone else which was great as you know there's people around but not so close to annoy one another.
The toilets were just the one toilet in a shed (still had a mirror) which was extremely clean just mind your head. We didn't need the sink or showers but a little block was being made. It would be good to have maybe a couple more blocks of toilets dotted about as it was a good 5 minute walk from our pitch not always good during the night in the pouring rain!
We only stayed on the site so I can't comment on anything near by but all in all the campsite was perfect. Would recommend it to anyone especially like us wanted a one night cheap break. We will be returning just can't wait for it to open again next season!

Just got back from the campsite yesterday, and it was amazing!
Such a nice campsite and it really is WILD camping.
When we got there we were greeted by Kamila who took our money and organised us a pitch. We originally had one nearer the entrance however was surrounded by kids and she decided that this wouldn't suit us very well (being a group of 5 18-27 year olds.
We were taken to both pitches and were allowed to chose which one we preferred. We chose Wren, and what a pitch. Nice big space, plenty of room for our large tunnel tent with space for another.
Each pitch has their own fire pit which you can purchase fire wood for £5 a bag.
When you arrive you can take wheel barrows to ferry your stuff to your pitch. We did have to wait a while for wheelbarrows come back however this could be just as they were very busy being a bank holiday weekend.
The facilities are very clean, with separate gents and ladies toilets and a separate 'emergency' chemical toilet!
The shower. Well it is basically a large water tank up high, a tap, a bowl with wholes in the bottom of it and a pull rope to start and stop. So basically its cold! No one in our group used the shower. We all chickened out however I have been assured that it is something that you can not miss!
There is a lot of shops and places to get essentials near the campsite however they are a short drive away.
We went on a few late night walks around the campsite and surrounding areas. It is so quiet! the only noises we could hear was one squeaky wheel barrow that was being used by another pitch, horses and a very early bird!
I know people complained about planes and motorway noise, however we did not hear any traffic what so ever, and as for the planes you do hear the odd one however that is it! Just quiet as anything.
We loved our weekend and had an amazing time! We are about to book to go back again in a few weeks time and again in Easter! Definitely a great place to go if you don't want to just camp in a field and really try some wild camping but with all the essentials!

We stayed here last weekend and what a brilliant site! We had a pitch by the pond which was ideal as the weather was beautiful.
The pitches in the woodland were lovely too, each one has its own private clearing. Ideal for families with children - hours of entertainment!
Toilets were clean and tidy, one ladies and one men's, there was one portaloo too. One washing up sink.
The campsite is very new, so not sure if they plan to add anymore.
They have the most amazing Tarzan shower, a short walk along a winding path leads you to a wooden tower with a huge tank on the top, you pull a handle and out comes the water! its not warm and I wouldn't fancy it early or late summer, but on a warm sunday in August it was outstanding - really wakes you up! Can't rate it highly enough! There's plenty of camouflage netting so no one can see you!
For 2 nights, 2 adults and a massive bag of firewood it was £53, not the cheapest site, but would go there again.
The owners were very friendly and helpful, we will be returning!

Just got back from a long weekend at wild woodland.
Reading other reviews I have to agree this really is a magical experience. The woodland provided seclusion, which is a rare find in campsites.
Another reviewer mentioned traffic noise, we stayed at one of the furthest pitches and could hear traffic from the near road, however it was not frequent enough to be a nuisance.
On the Saturday night there was a live band playing somewhere until about 11pm (our only guess is from the closest pub 1 mile away), at times so loud it sounded like they were on the campsite!
Went to the Three Horseshoes Pub, however the food was poor quality so would not recommend.
All in all an enjoyable experience at this campsite, and I would return!

What a blessing to find a site like this so close to London.
My girlfriend and I live in Beckenham and it was only half an hour drive away, yet when you are there you feel very much in the countryside.
The pitches are beautiful and secluded, far enough apart that you hear little noise from others. There are camouflage nets strung here and there to give even more seclusion to your pitch.
The whole place is magical!
There is an area for a campfire on each pitch and there's so little light pollution that when you are round that fire on a night time you feel very much out in the wilderness.
The toilets are very clean.
The 'Tarzan' shower has to be experienced, absolutely genius! This is a sun warmed shower (which means cold basically) that activates at the pull of a rope, it's brilliant. The shower is exhilarating and exciting and really makes you feel alive.
It was chilly some days been in the forest but after the shower for some reason you feel really warm and full of life, OK I'll stop going on about it now but do try it.
There's lots of wildlife around to see especially when you are quiet, we had a badger visit our tent most mornings. We saw foxes (nice to see healthy country ones for a change), bats, woodpeckers and lots of other birds including an owl, two little mice would visit us when we were reading and actually just sit right next to our feet, we even had a frog visit us. There's supposed to be a lot of deer around also.
The owners are very nice indeed, we had lots of chats but they are not at all intrusive.
I didn't hear any road noise really, don't know what people are complaining about, even if you could, what would you expect so close to London, but I didn't hear any traffic and I was there for four nights. You get planes going over obviously but not a lot. Mostly what you hear is the sound of the woodland creatures. Very nice indeed.
It could have been a chore getting all our stuff to the pitch (we have a lot of stuff) but having the wheel barrows makes it a fun thing rather than a chore, we are like big kids and enjoyed it anyway.
As I said the owners are so nice so I hope people going to this site respect the wishes of the owners to keep it a nice peaceful site and protect the woodland by not letting their kids fun wild.
What more can I say, I loved this site and I just hope that I manage to be able to still get a booking when everyone else realises how good this is.

We had a bit of trouble booking as the phone reception is bad so its difficult to get hold of the owners.
Its quite difficult to find as sat nav takes you past the site.
When you follow sat nav about 1/2 mile before 'your destination' based on post code you will see some huge green wooden doors.
Go in there to do the payments etc.
Then you go on 100yds ad you will see some metal gates (locked)
Go through these and follow the track and you come to the carpark.
Grab a wheelbarrow and go through the doorway in the cammo netting/hedge (feeling a little apprehensive as to what you have let yourself in for!)
Wow!
Once we arrived though any problems where soon forgotten
You are led to your pitch ( we were latecomers and still given a choice of two)
Although pitch is totally the wrong word.
A small sign ( ours was Little Owl) directs you down a small path into the woods. After a few twists and turns (so you are hidden from the main path) you come to a clearing.
Ours was big enough to fit a 3 man a 4 man and a 5man tent plus 2 tables and all the cooking stuff with still enough space for us all (3 adults 5 kids) to sit around the fire pit!
Yeas a fire pit. They sell logs for £5 per bag
Which is enough for a small fire for a night - we went through 2 though as boys do like to play with fire!
We were warned that our children were expected to be quiet in the evening so if you want kids to run wild late at night this isnt the site for you.
There is a helpful board with maps and local pubs etc listed ( though the the closest one 1km away) was crossed out- not sure why as it was open and looked nice.
There is no playground at all but there was an empty feild which I guess you could play football or cricket on with the owners permission ( we didn't have time or energy to check)
The facillities:
The loos are basic, they are a proper toilet and sink in a shed. Kept very clean all the time but as its a shed there is no light and the window (not overlooked) is clear glass.
There is only one toilet for the men and one for the ladies plus a chemical loo.
You will have to wait at busy times.
The shower!
This is a proper campping shower
Out in the open In a seclude section ( you cant be seen)with a gate to show if its busy, a simple system of a water tank a pull tap and a metal pan with holes in it.
Very cold!
But you have to do it for the experience.
All in all a fantastic find.
Although it says around 10 pitches when we walked around monday ( there was only us and one other group then!) we saw that most of the pitches coul accomadate at least 2 tents.
This site is the closest thing to wild camping (with comfort) you will get

I brought my three-year old son to Wild Wood for a weekend away and we really enjoyed it. I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said -
The owners are lovely and extremely helpful. The pitches are beautiful and secluded. You can have a campfire right in your little area (and kindling is neatly arranged next to the firepit!). There is a lovely footpath through the woods and you're free to use the open green spaces to relax and sunbathe.
The site is extremely secure: you get a key for the gates when you arrive, which was nice comfort when I had to leave the little one asleep in the car park to pitch the tent when we first arrived
Apparently the car park has been moved closer to the pitches, so it's not a very long walk with wheelbarrow (if you can find one) to get to your tent. The facilities are basic, but adequate.
There is a Costa down the hill on the A21 and a bit further up towards Bromley there is a Waitrose and an early-opening Co-op. Yes, there is plane noise and the M25 can be heard once in a while, but all in all, this is a beautiful and peaceful site that is within striking distance of London.
Just a couple of notes:
- bring the tent with the SIG if you're squeamish about insects -- this is old growth forest, so it is a beautiful and active ecosystem!
- bring plastic tent pegs, but beware you may hit rock under the very soft topsoil.
