Like everyone else, we absolutely loved our stay at East Soar Farm campsite. We stayed for 3 nights over Easter and had a wonderful time. As a hardened camper, I wasn't sure whether glamping was for me. But I have to say I'm now a convert! The location is fantastic - fine views, and only a few minutes walk from the dramatic views and cliffs of the Devon coast. There's lots of space for kids to run around - both fields and a giant walkers hut/barn which has a floor of wood chips and lots of tables/chairs - so there's somewhere dry to eat/read/play games on a rainy day. The weather was very changeable when we visited so the tents (which were bigger than I was expecting) were pitched in the open barn - so we had all the pros of camping but NONE of the cons - no wet tent to pack away, no mud, no damp clothes, and virtually no washing up! The breakfasts were good (great coffee!), and the evening meals fantastic. All enjoyed round a camp fire. Schalk was the perfect host; rarely have we ever been made so welcome! We will be back!

If anyone attempts to tell you that you can't camp in December, then point them towards East Soar Farm. A mate and I stayed in one of their bell tents last weekend, which was pitched in a seasonal barn with a heater wired up inside the tent. Perfect and very warm and cozy! The location is amazing, with great views and easy access to local sights. The dinner is wonderful, the facilities are great and best of all the hosts are truly wonderful people. Enjoy a chilled night by a fire under the stars, or in the beautifully decorated chill out barn. We will be back without a doubt.

I was sold on this as an idea, the thought of having to load all of our camping equipment into the car, and then realise we had no room for the dogs or kids, although exciting, does fill me with a certain amount of dread - but we do love camping.
So rather hesitantly we booked for our family, including 3 young children, to camp at East Soar during the October Half term. I only say hesitantly because I was worried about the weather.
I needn't have been, that's not to say the weather was great. But the guys at East Soar had it covered - literally.
Following some extremely high winds they'd had the genius idea of pitching the bell tent in an open fronted barn. Which was fantastic. It meant that we could still have our campfire, sat outside out tent while watching the elements.
Schalk had also put a heater in our tent, which we didn't need. But this makes a return trip in february half term a real possibility.
This was definitely the best of both worlds, there is no doubt that you are camping, with all the fun and charm that that brings, but you are protected enough to actually enjoy the experience!
The cooking was great. The first night we were able to invite family over to share our evening meal with us, and the lovely hot, layered campfire stew went down extremely well, as we sat around a fire watching the lashing rain. They even catered for my fussy children. Happy children equal happy camping! The smoked crispy lamb ribs were to die for.
On top of this having the Walkers Rest right there means that you have Tea and coffee facilities - just like any good hotel! Only much, much more charming than most!
I have to mention the cakes that are made each morning and sold in the Walkers Rest - I have never tried anything so delicious, and I have eaten a lot of cakes.
The location is unique, there is no way that you would be able to camp in such a beautiful location, in relative isolation from the world, almost any where else. The kids had total freedom, the nearest beach 3/4 mile away, they could just run. One evening they ran, and ran to try to find the end of the rainbow - magic!
On a clear night, the stars, are a reason alone. Next time we'll be packing the telescope (Which we can fit in without out tent, etc)
I know I will have forgotten to tell you something fabulous about this place. In short just try it.

Well, I think I can honestly say this was one of the most unexpected and wonderful camping experiences I have ever had.
We found East Soar Farm purely by chance on an internet search and a couple of days later we were heading down a dark track in the middle of nowhere wondering what we had done. But we needn’t have worried. We were greeted with a roaring camp fire, wonderful food and fabulous welcome.
The next morning we woke up to a spectacular setting within spitting distance of the sea and after a great breakfast, which was all laid out for us, we headed out.
The scenery around there was just breath taking, Salcombe was fun, the ferry from the beach to Salcombe was really quirky and generally we were spoilt for choice.
As with all good camping reviews I will finish with the toilets. I don’t think I have ever seen cleaner toilet and shower facilities even in the many hotels I have stayed in. The shower rooms were vast and the showers really warm.
So to finish please go and stay at East Soar Farm, because this quality of service combined with the great welcome, great scenery and great place is a rare thing and I would encourage anyone to go.
