Stayed with friends for two nights camping. We were greeted on arrival and given a tour by Martin who was friendly and extremely helpful. He showed us around one of his wigwams when we asked and they looked really great and very well priced. We took some walks from the campsite up to the river which was lovely. Pub was a very short walk away, good food and ales. We were given a fire pit to use and some wood which was good as a lot of sites no longer allow fires. The facilities were very, very good. A large cabin with several bathrooms and a dining area. Would definitely recommend! 10/10. Thanks Martin :)

A smashing little site and easy to find. Martin the manager was very friendly and approachable. Stayed the night in one of the little chalets as the shower block was being renovated (Martin still only charged me the price of a single tent which was very decent of him) and it was clean, warm with a nice little kitchen and a nice hot shower. Would definitely recommend this site, and will stay there again

Stayed here with some friends over the weekend, couldn't fault this site in any way. The owners were extremely friendly, there was nothing more they could have done to help us, from supplying a BBQ, a fire pit, lending us extra sleeping bags (because it was quite a cold night), to supplying tools to help us fix a small problem with our engine.
The site has a cosy personal feel It is big enough to have your own space and privacy, but small enough that you don't have to walk far for that inevitable late night trip to the toilet! The facilities are exceptionally clean and well maintained, with three toilets, a shower and a bath as well as a library of books and games to keep anyone entertained.
There is a lovely pub 5 mins walk away with friendly staff and yummy food at decent prices. All the customers are welcoming and friendly, so it doesn't feel like a local pub for local people! And your canine friend can come too.
The main road gives you Asda if you want to buy BBQ supplies and for a beautiful walk with or without a dog, take a trip to Brampton, just 25-30 mins drive to Talkin Tarn, a beautiful lake with a cafe and ice-cream shop, where you can just walk various routes around the lake or fish for pike. Or head to any of the Hadrian's Wall sites, there are loads of brochures available to plan your days entertainment.
We will definitely return to this site, probably in the summer, and recommend it to all.

This really is a hidden delight, only about 6 miles from Carlisle city centre but feels a world away with its tranquillity and serene atmosphere.
The owner and his lovely wife couldn't do enough to make us welcome and were always on hand if assistance was required.
We stayed in the self catering cabin and found the facilities fantastic, this was a nice break in the middle of our campervaning tour of Cumbria and then across to york.
The Drovers arms pub only 350 yds away is a real oldy worldy type pub recently taken over by Sandy and Sarah and we wish them all the best in their venture( Food and real ales were great).
The communal lounge room at the site is a great idea and was utilised by our daughters to watch movies on our laptop while we relaxed in the cabin.
Over all fantastic value for money far exceeded what we expected for the price.
One small observation being that maybe the small hob in the cabin could do with updating soon its a bit temperamental and settings have rubbed off and if that's the way they Martin wants to take it a bit of canny advertising( we have posted on vw T4forum) to maybe widen his catchment other than walkers and cyclists.
Will definitely be visiting again.

Just returned from a two nights stay at this site, we had our own tent. It has a couple of camping cabins or 'wigwams', and cabin, set up tent and space for maybe 7 or 8 tents.
The facilities are housed within another larger cabin. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath, and also a separate toilet. Martin, the owner, keeps the place spotlessly clean and obviously takes great pride in the appearance of the site and the communal areas. There is a library, and somewhere warm to sit if it rains outside! This is a really excellent feature.
The site is level, well drained, spacious and plenty of room to pitch. There are lots of walkers coming through here, and it is perfect for that.
Owner is amazing, he is genuinely interested in people, can't do enough for each visitor and has created a lovely, quiet site.
We would definitely return and would recommend to walkers and campers wanting to see the area, alike.

I took my wife and 20 year old daughter to see how they liked sleeping in a tent. We stayed in a rather large 6 berth 'ready tent' before buying one ourselves. The site is quite small with 2 Wigwam wooden lodges, one 'ready tent' and one large wooden chalet, there is space for around ten tents although there were none there on our visit.
There is a main wooden chalet for guests that houses a well stocked small library with comfy armchair and separate table and 4 chairs, a breakfast room, one bathroom with bath/shower over, one toilet with stand alone shower, and also a separate toilet for when both bathroom are occupied. The bathrooms were very clean indeed. There is also a breakfast room and a drying room for walkers/cyclists.
The owner couldn't do enough for us, from bringing us a barbecue over, fold up camp beds, to filling our water container, (he also made some beautiful breakfast baguettes and a lovely pot of tea the next morning that were good value and very tasty indeed).
The site is ideally located for guests that want to walk Hadrians Wall, and there is a pub in both nearby villages, although we did not try these.
The site was lovely and quite, although there was no facilities for children e. G. Sandpits, play parks etc, but that suited us fine, as although I do not dislike children it can break up the peace and quite when they are running around screaming for hours on end. I will definitely return to the site and will stay in one of the wigwams next time.
We only live 12 mins from the site and didn't want to go too far to try camping, but I drive for a living and don't want to go hundreds of miles on my days off, and although only a short drive from Carlisle (10 mins) it felt so remote, I felt hundreds of miles from the hustle and bustle.

Top marks to Martin for going the extra mile and giving 110% to one and all.
A last minute booking for early June resulted in the wigwams being booked up, so opted for one of the ready erected tents. How nice to have a 6berth tent advertised as 'suit 4'. In fact only 2 of us old biddies, so ample space. Martin even brought a small heater to our tent on the first night just in case we felt cold!
The beds consisted of 2 generous sized singles (guest bed type with mattress) and a high double air bed which we didn't need so Martin removed it to give even more space. Two dividers made 3 bedrooms. We had an end one each with the mid section for a clothing/storage area. Equipped with basics: proper crockery/cutlery/stove + unlimited gas canisters/ chairs & table/utensils etc. Only need own bedding but even that can be supplied free if needed!
Had a peak in the wigwams; looked to be well equipped. Two shielings (self contained timber cabins). Great for families.
The timber service cabin - heated, bathrooms, kitchen, small drying room, reading, relaxing all very spotless and welcoming if too wet/cold to sit out at night. Small free bbq's/fire pits.
Local pub allows own food/fish n chips etc. Surrounding area is scenic in any direction. Half an hour to Gretna so my cousin from Australia could say in all honesty she'd visited Scotland!
This is not your all singing/dancing campsite but a very laid back relaxing site with owner Martin doing his utmost to help in any way without being obtrusive. I will be back, most certainly.

We have just come back after spending 4 nights at this great campsite. The site is small; with 3 rentable wooden 'wigwams', 2 large ready erected tents for rent and a small field for tents.
The facilities hut is in the middle of the site and is extremely well appointed. The 2 bathrooms and 1 separate loo are spotlessly clean with endless supplies of piping hot water. After a long day cycling my hubby was very grateful to have a soak in a hot bath. Martin, the owner, actually apologised for the state of the (spotless) bathroom, I am certain he is aiming for operating theatre levels of cleanliness. There is also a common room which would be most welcoming when the weather is bad and Martin has put in lots of local information such as visitor attractions, maps and cycle routes. There is also a smaller reading room which has a large selection of books and a comfy chair.
Nearby is a pub which allows takeaways to be delivered and eaten on the premises and on Friday afternoons/evenings a mobile fish and chip van parks up in the pub car park. It seemed to be doing a roaring trade when we were there. As it was warm and sunny, we ate our fish and chips outside the pub with a couple of pints - all very civilised. There are some lovely little villages that are worth visiting and there are numerous cycle routes. We went for an excellent, if rather windy, cycle ride along the Solway. Carlisle is very close as well.
If you want a site that is large, noisy, all singing and dancing, then this isn't the site for you. The ever friendly and helpful Martin seems to have mastered the art of excellent site management whilst remaining unobtrusive; the site has been open for 2 years and is a complete career change for him and I wish him well in his endeavours.
I cannot recommend this site enough, we certainly will be back

What a fantastic site, if what you value is a small quiet place with good facilities.
A lovely welcome from the owners, nothing was too much trouble, Martin even brought a weather forecast for us the day we were leaving.
We were cycle camping, and it was perfect. Having picnic tables by the pitches (just a nice field, not laid out sections) was a bonus.
The facilities were excellent, really clean, at it did make a nice difference having a traditional bathroom layout rather than idividual cubicles. Being able to use the indoor (and heated when we were there) area for relaxing would be a huge advantage, we were lucky enough to have good weather so didn't need it.
There is a nice pub about a 5 minute walk away. It wasn't doing food while we were there, but they were looking for a new landlord to introduce food.
