Lovely little campsite that makes a great base for walkers and great value for money for families who don't want on site entertainment or a play park but are content to enjoy the area by day and relax next to a campfire in the evening (we would have loved to relax in this way but got snowed on instead). Fabulous clean proper bathrooms, a reading room with books and games for if it is too cold to sit in your tent, lots of info and recommendations given by the owner. Would definitely recommend.

I really cannot recommend the warm welcome and excellent facilities at this site enough. I stayed here with a number of friends whilst walking Hadrian's Wall. This place is an excellent final stop before reaching your final destination at Bowness.
We had lugged tents with us all the way but so cheap were the excellent snug little cabins that we decided to forego pitching and treat ourselves to a bit of budget luxury. And very warm and comfortable we were too. Martin, the site owner, was hugely welcoming and knowledgeable and obviously very keen to produce the best site possible.
The facilities are excellent. There are only a couple of bathrooms, but what luxury! Housed in a large log cabin, they are fully kitted out bathrooms with piping hot showers and baths - and no extra charge. Martin also introduced us to his high tech kit drying gizmo - which was very welcome indeed after completing a fair proportion of the previous days walking in the rain - although I fear we owe him an apology for stinking out his log cabin drying our damp kit out. Well, we had been walking for 5 days by this point!
And what a joy to have frankly huge breakfast rolls made for us in the morning! I can't remember exactly how much they cost but I do remember thinking that they were way too cheap for the quality and quantity of ingredients.
We had the site all to ourselves when we were there and I got the impression that it wasn't often very busy - it is only fairly new though I think. Its is a shame though really cos its a great little site and a really, really welcome one for Hadrian Wallers. If you are coming here off the wall do watch out though: unlike other stops enroute the signage to this place isn't great. Martin explained that he works very closely with the heritage guys, producing a site with excellent eco credentials, but this also means that he's not just stuck his own signs up en route like others have. It's a shame if he's missing custom because of this.
There's a decent little pub just round the corner serving good local ale. No food when we were there but they did let us order a takeaway and eat it in.
So, yeah, all in all an excellent little site, perhaps especially for weary walkers.
