My wife and I went here for a long weekend wanting somewhere peaceful but within easy reach of good walking and cycling routes. We were not disappointed, Brian’s response to my enquiry was friendly, quick and efficient, even texting me our pitch number before arrival.
The grass pitch was pretty flat and gave great views across Rutland Water, the circular route around the lake went past the entrance to the site.
This site won’t suit everybody as you need to use all of your own facilities but this does not worry us, just means sites like these don’t get so crowded.
Particularly liked the wooden viewing platform overlooking Rutland Water and the local pub (The Horse & Jockey) where we had an excellent reasonably priced evening meal.

We were lucky to find vacancy for two nights mid-week just before the bank holiday weekend which was fully booked.
The site is in a blissful setting, very well maintained with large pitches, as mentioned in previous reviews. Brian is charming and helpful and informed us about the osprey nest which could be viewed from the webcam in the nature reserve just down the lane from the site.
We were blessed with good weather which helped but even without that the site is the perfect CL We are looking forward to our next visit.

I knew this site was going to be great after reading previous reviews and speaking to Brian. Very well kept Site with very spacious pitches and lovely views of Rutland Water. What a helpful and approachable person Brian is. Site is basic but had everything we needed. Adults only but dog friendly endeared us to booking. Can see why the site has won awards. We will definitely return.

Wow what a fabulous CS in a stunning location overlooking Rutland Water. Brian Is very welcoming and very happy to give guidance about any number of different things in the surrounding area. We woke up to a stunning sunrise which was backdrop to a hot air balloon taking off in the next field. And of course the varied birdsong was delightful. The area is a haven for bird watchers, cyclists and walkers.
The open aspect of the campsite is peaceful with very generous pitch sizes marked out by slightly longer grass. The pitches themselves are immaculately well mown, each pitch with electric has water and drainage. There is some vey distant road noise during the day which is not intrusive. The electric option is a bit pricey at £5 per night but we were happy to pay this extra for such a wonderful CS. Overall a relaxing site in a spectacular location.

We found this gem of a site and used twice since April. Easy to find and the owner Brian, is a lovely friendly man. Site is kept immaculate, very quiet and has fantastic views of Rutland Water. No toilets or showers but discreet area for bins and waste. On both occasions the site was full but very quiet and we will definitely return as only 20 mins from home. Big pitches. Loved it.

This is the best small site we've ever stayed on. Large pitches overlooking Rutland Water and an owner that always pleased to see you. Electrics but no showers but everything else is perfect with peace and quiet and a glorious location.
Plenty of pubs nearby, the owners son owns 2 of them, with one being an easy 1 mile walk, with excellent food. Be sure to book early!

Fantastic site with an equally fantastic host in the shape of the new slimline version of Brian. On our arrival he said 'go on tell me I've lost weight'.
This was our second visit to this site and we are booked in again to revisit in August.
We managed to see Ospreys, Red Kites and an Owl this time around which was amazing.
The site is immaculately maintained, the bins are always emptied regularly and are separated into cardboard/paper, glass only, doggy poo (in bags) and dry waste.
There are two drinking water points, one grey water and a chemical toilet disposal point.
The pitches are very large indeed and the views across the lake are to die for. Ok there are no toilets or showers, but don't let that put you off, because we tried it and it's definitely worth it to stay here.
There is the Horse and Jockey pub about 15-20 mins walk down the road, which sells amazing real ales and equally good food. There is a garden centre just 5 minutes walk from the site and 5 minutes walk the opposite way down a hill there is the Osprey Centre, within the wildlife reserve, which is £5. 65p for each adult not of pensionable age. They have a live webcam of the Osprey's nest and telescopes available to see for yourself.
We asolutely love this site and can't wait to return again in August.
If you've never been and you like Rutland Water then give it a go and see if you too fall under the spell of 'The Paddock' magic.

Brian, our host, was a brilliant guy. Local knowledge helped us feel at home straight away.
The site was first class; well manicured grass on this spacious site; individual areas clearly recocognised that were of very ample size.
CDP was easy to use as was the recycling bins and all exceptionally clean.
We will return for sure; the experience was great as was the very many sites to go and visit and to top it off the Horse and Jockey catered for our inner needs with brilliant food and drinks.

Lovely site very clean and we'll looked after. We had a nice friendly welcome and was told were all the local amenities were. We had a very pleasant stay and visited the Rutland nature reserve and saw the ofsprey project. Definatly recommend this site. The jockey about a mile from the site serves some brilliant food and has a good curry night.

Another Fantastic long weekend at our favourite site! The owner was yet again very welcoming along with his new friend! :0)
Every time we come here it is a pleasure to be back, the site is always meticulously mown, tidy and a delight!
If anyone is looking for peace, tranquillity, glorious views, and huge individual pitches, this is the place, plus lovely walks for the dogs and is also brilliant for cyclists who want to be a bit more energetic and go on the Rutland Water cycle trial. We're back in a fortnight and can't wait :0))
Thanks Again , missing it already !
