We stopped over night at Folkestone and caught the 9. 20am shuttle. Peage with van cost us about 35 Euros. Arrived on site 3. 30 French time. We had put in a huge effort to book seafront pitches, so we were very disappointed to find we were allocated pitches else where. The pitches are big enough some are large. After our initial disappointment, we perhaps ended up with the best possible pitches. The wind was cold from the north, so being just back from the sea meant that the sun was warm and we did not get the full force of the cold wind.

The electrics are French. We had been warned about reverse polarity and found it. The electric pillar was more like a Christmas tree there were sockets coming out of it every where. Most were reversed, but we had taken provisions for this including a tester. Our friends found one wired correctly.

The management, were very helpful about the pitch mix up, however several other campers had the same experience we did. Our advice is don't bother booking a specific pitch just choose the best available on arrival. We travelled with another couple and as compensation for the mix up over the pitches we both enjoyed the site wifi for the price of one, it was excellent.

There was a small children's play area, looked good. However as the beach was brilliant, it was hardly ever used. The loos were French! There were apparently ladies and gents loos. However the ladies were closed so everyone used the gents. This was no problem at all as the place was always clean and big enough for the site. The showers were great. Its just different from the uk. We did not use the covered swimming pool but by all accounts it was very good.

It was no more than 100 meters to the beach which went on for miles. The sand was soft and clean. Dogs are allowed on the beach from September to June. In July and August they are only allowed on certain parts very early in the morning or late at night. The beach views are stunning. You can easily walk to the village which has all the local shops you would need. There is a bakers, butchers, chemist and vet. Several restaurants and a small Carrefour supermarket. We used most of them. We used the vets as we had three dogs between us. They were very helpful and pleasant. However we had problems at Eurotunnel re the dogs passports. The Tunnel control are pedantic and your dogs passport must be correct with no alterations. So check what the vet has put and get them to do it again if there is the slightest error or doubt. We did not do this and it cost us 60 Euros at a Calais vet for one dog, just to have the details rewritten. Nothing to do with the dog!

In the next town of Cabourg there are several supermarkets all good, you just pick the one you like best. We chose the Intermarche as this fitted our needs. Lots to see around the area including Pegasus bridge. We felt it would all get very busy in high season, but for us it was just right. You could catch the Portsmouth Caen ferry but it is much more expensive then Dover Calais and the drive down. All in all it was a great place and great campsite.

To start with I have to say the owner of this site is one of the most helpful nice and polite site owners I have ever met and nothing was too much trouble for him, unfortunately his site lets him down badly, I know this is a work in progress but the pitches are mostly uneven, there is only one pitch that as direct access to water for your motorhome, though there is a filling emptying point it is very awkward to manoeuvre around the site to use.

Good points are as already stated the owner and location, it is within easy reach of local area & and restaurants and is located directly on beach, though only 4 pitches are adjacent and it is a very windy location, there is a small undercover heated swimming pool, though unfortunately we arrived mid school holidays so this was very busy, all in all Until the site is improved which we were informed it will be we will probably give it a miss

This was the first commercial non CL camping site we have used so we weren't entirely sure what to expect. Our French friends whom we met at the site had booked our pitch for us which turned out to be a better pitch (paid extra for it) in some respects as it was close to the beach and quieter than pitches in the centre of the site but a distance from the main toilet and shower block and crockery and vegetable preparation facilities. (plenty of exercise!) The facilities on the site are very good and kept very clean with a large swimming pool and a couple of boule pitches.

The beach was fantastic though spoilt somewhat by dog owners allowing their mutts to foul the beaches and not clearing up after them. The views are very good too.

There is a large Carrefour supermarket close by and also a number of small takeaway establishments close by too for those who want a lazy evening.

The site is well placed for a starting point for the Normandy beaches of Juno, Gold, Sword and Arromanche (Mulberry harbour site) as well as the gun battery at Merville Franceville and Pegasus Bridge.

Cabourg a delightful town is 5 miles away along the coast and a must for window shopping.

The ferry terminal at Ouisterham/Caen is very close by if you don't fancy the 210 mile trip from Calais, but Le Harve and Cherbourg are closer than Calais. Toll roads from Calais will cost you about £25, but quicker than going via Rouen and you will have the experience of going over the Pont de Normandie near Honfleur.

So would I use the site again, yes but pick the beach end if you want a bit of peace and quiet as it is a very large site and very busy during holiday time so you'll need to book well ahead if you want a pitch.
