Pitches very uneven, no toilet seats, lots of untidy areas, not enough water points, rubbish area overflowing and outside of site,
Toilets although we're very clean they need updating.
Left early.
Good point was close to ferry port x

We stayed just one night thankfully as we were driving south the next day. The reception office was closed when we arrived mid afternoon so three caravans and a couple of motorhomes from the UK were left in the arrivals area & overflowing into the road until someone arrived to let us in half an hour later – not a good start.
The three caravans were directed to three adjoining pitches which were tiny & very difficult to manoeuvre into. The access roads were so narrow that of course we blocked the road until we all motor movered onto our pitches, one at a time due to the extremely tight spaces.
No toilet seats or soap for handwashing but the blocks were clean.
The site is right beside the beach so we did have a nice walk but we were very glad to leave the site the next day.
We certainly won’t be returning.

Should be a perfect site: backs right onto the beach and perfect location for the D-day landing locations. Pitches are tight and a motor mover is essential for all but the smallest of outfits. The site is however completely ruined in my opinion by the very loud and late night music that goes on until 12. 00 midnight most nights and takes place outside. We specifically requested a peaceful and quiet pitch but it soon became apparent there is no such thing. We were sited the far end of the site but were still kept awake by the loud thumping music all night.

Stayed one night enroute back to Calais from Concarneau. Reserved beachside pitch 134 at vast expense based on other reviews, and this was a good idea as the rest of the site was busy and tightly packed. Great view but windy. Very long sandy beach which would have been lovely to walk along to the towns either side if dogs were allowed. It is very much a holiday park rather than a campsite (wristbands and keycode for facilities). Easy check-in. Receptionist spoke good English. Paid €4 for 1 day's wifi which worked ok. Fairly level pitch had direct view of beach - just cross a sandy path to get to it. Water tap nearby and electric actually on pitch. Lots of people passing to beach. Order bread/croissants for next morning. Snack bar open from 0830. Pizza van other side of the road. Other holiday park next door with wire fence between. Easy level walk right out of the site to the small town - you can cut through the side roads. Lots of WWII history in the area.

What a great location. We requested a beachside pitch (138) and we were literally steps from the beach, there was a sandy bank which gave a bit of protection from the wind. It was a great spot because we were out of the way and we have dogs. The pitches were a bit small for us as we have a 7 x 4 tent and a large van! But for the average camper - plenty of room. Manoeuvring between pitches was also a bit of a challenge as we were all quite close together. Each pitch was enclosed by a 4' hedge which gave you a little privacy.
The site was surprisingly busy with families for early July and did not expect that. Another good reason to be tucked out of the way (with dogs). The toilets were cleaned twice a day and they were spotless. A spacious under cover washing up area too. Reception staff extremely helpful and very pleasant. They spoke English, although we did attempt our O level French! Lovely covered swimming pool with an outside sun terrace.
The town is a 10 minute walk away and you can get off the main road down the back streets, a very pleasant walk. Market day on Thursday, always an experience, even though my lovely sister in law somehow got me to spend 49 Euros on CHEESE! Thank you Duffs54! So beware of the cheese sellers!
On our last night, we had a pizza from the van just outside the site and it was lovely, only 10 Euros each for 12', which was ample!
The area is steeped in history from the D Day Landings and it's extremely moving. Pegasus Bridge, Merville Battery, Ranville War Cemetery are just a stones throw. And so much more further afield. Beware though if you expect to be able to take your dog on any beach - I'm afraid they are few and far between in this area, so check it out first.
We will definitely return as we had a great holiday and just love the location and laid back feel of this site.

Stayed here for overnight stay from ferry terminal. Arrived around 10. 30pm with a Caravan Club confirmed late arrival reservation.
This was not a good experience. It was late August, very busy and the reception guy just told us to find any empty pitch. There was a very loud disco going on and he was running the bar. Not a problem to normally find a pitch on our own at night but the access roads were very narrow with little lighting. The available pitches were small, not flat and difficult to place a caravan, even with a mover. It was late, dark and far from level! Not a good start!
Sadly, sleep was also impossible as there were several loud French youngsters (9- 12 years old) running amok around the site until after 2am.
We re glad to leave in the morning and will not be returning.

This is the busiest site I have every stayed on, but you didn't notice and we had no complaints at all.
We pitched on nos 139 right at the top near the beach.
Toilets and showers spotless, no loo seats as on most French sites. Plenty of sinks and showers and loo's. Also a large covered washing up area.
Hairdryers available from reception if needed, don't know if there is a charge. Washing machine and dryer, tokens from reception.
FREE refreeze on ice packs a bonus.
Shop only had a few essentials, but shops within 10mins walk if needed and all big supermarkets are in the area.
On site swimming pool, but very busy with children, thought we would miss continental school holidays as it was early July but it seems not as there were many on site.
Beach very close to our pitch 50yds, lovely beach all marked out with yellow buoys and life guards on duty. Dogs are not allowed on beach right next to campsite but they are allowed to the right of the beach just past the yellow buoys it's 5mins walk.
But you can take them anywhere on beach before 9am and after 8pm. We always picked up mess, but sadly the French do not, hence the ban I should think.
Reception staff so helpful and reacted immediately when the electric went off twice. WiFi 12euros a week unlimited use only one appliance can be connected at a time otherwise it chucks you out. We had a good connection where we were.
They don't charge extra for pup tents, gaxebo's etc
It seems that they have ponies visit the site once a week for pony rides plus other activities for kiddies.
There is a cafe on site but we didn't use it. You can order Bread, croissants etc the day before as well.
Outside the camp site there is a Pizza and hot dog seller. And next door fresh fruit and a restaurant/bar.
Lovely site and would book again although it was busy it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
One night quite late there were a group of noisy French teenagers nearby calling to each other from the beach but that was nipped in the bud with a patrolling security men late at night.

Booked a couple of nights here through the caravan club as it looked lovely in their brochure - it is right on sword beach in a lovely location, but the reality did not live up to the brochure - we checked in o. K - just before they went to lunch 1-3 - were allocated a pitch number, and she also gave me two other choices - just as well as there was somebody on the pitch she allocated us - anyway managed to find a pitch available after driving around the site - and it turned out to be far more spacious than the original ! the pitches are very small in the back section, but the pitches on the beach are lovely and spacious - there is an extra charge for the beach pitches due to demand, but it is worth the extra - just make sure you have an extension lead as there are not hook ups on every beach pitch - the town of Merville is on your doorstep - 2 mins along the beach - or 5 mins by road from the entrance - it is a delight ! - the staff here need to desperately sort out their admin as there were many instances of people being allocated pitches that were occupied - it nearly came to blows one day over a beach pitch ! having said that Lucy on reception was really helpful, and booked a vets appointment for me to get the necessary treatment for returning to the U. K - all in all a nice campsite, but only if you can secure a pitch by the beach ! - there is a bar called cafe de paris just down from the campsite, excellent food and great atmosphere.

We stayed at this site as an overnight stay twice, both on evening arrival off ferry and night before morning ferry on return.
Upon arrival from ferry we arrived in the dark and were greeting by helpful lady who showed us to our pitch. Pitch was reasonable size but manoeuvring it onto pitch was tight because of pitches opposite and cars parked at front of pitches. There appear to be a mixture of seasonal tourers sited there, chalets and touring pitches. Toilets and showers fine & clean(no toilet seats or soap for handwashing - but nothing unusual there). There was a small bar and a small room which appeared to double as a lounge and games room where there was a disco going on which was quite noisy but we were ok with that on our arrival because our pitch was far enough away from it. This was not the case on our return stay. Because we were leaving early to get the ferry we were put on a pitch near the exit so as not to disturb others which I don't have any problem with. But that pitch was right opposite the bar and disco which sounded like it was in our van and went on until late which defeated the objective of getting a restful night before ferry home and a good few hours driving. If you want peace and quiet and relaxing holiday or overnight stay perhaps you'd need to request a pitch away from disco.
Surrounding area has some nice towns - Cabourg etc. Easy close drive to Pegasus Bridge and Memorial. Would we stay again - probably not because we'd want a good nights sleep and didn't get that. There are other sites that are a bit further from Caen that we've used previously and would use instead.

We are a family of four with a large trailer tent. Our kids are age 12 and 9.
This was our very first camping trip to France. It was the first two weeks of the school holidays.
We travelled by 'Eurotunnel' from Folkestone to Calais (35 mins) The drive to the campsite took about 4 1/2 hours. Good clear roads. Easy route to follow on sat-nav. There are several toll roads.
The site itself is long and narrow. The main road at the front of the site. The beach is at the back. We had a very large pitch at the beach end. Quiet and peaceful. There is a private access to the beach from the site. Perfect ! Stunning beach views and sunsets. We had great sunny weather with one rather crazy storm !
Long, clean sandy beach with grassy dunes. Calm sea. You can walk along the beach to the main town 'Merville-Franceville' Very pleasant in the evenings.
Merville is a small pretty town. Small French restaurants and shops. We had some outstanding food and exceptional service at all our dining experiences. Not the cheapest but well worth it !
We are used to 'the Harvester' or 'Toby carvery' at home !
Fantastic crazy golf was fun and good play area just off the beach for children.
As mentioned the best pitches are the beach end.
The site has a small number of chalets to hire. These were used by mainly the French. There were a mixture of German/Dutch/French and English guests on the site.
We had a slight problem with our EHU as it was too far away. The owner was very helpful and supplied us with an extension lead.
All staff on the site are helpful but some speak limited English. You can order delicious croissants and bread to collect every morning.
The site has a small bar and snack area. Its a low-key site but with a few things going on at selected times. No shop on site. A number of supermarkets are a short drive away or you can walk to the main town.
Bike hire is available from reception.
We attended one bingo night. All in 'French' didn't have a clue what was going on ! hee hee
The family games night was fun. Also there was a kids climbing wall to have a go on one evening. Free of charge. (happy parents !)
Good size clean pool. Kids loved it. The sides open up in the hot weather. Lovely. A small number of sun loungers around.
There is also a large private hot tub and small sauna you can pay for to use for your family. We had it for an hour with the kids. It was their first 'mini spa' experience. Great idea, really enjoyed it.
Well cleaned toilet and shower blocks. Push button showers. No soap for hand-washing. Take your own in. No hand-dryer or paper towels either. This is normal on French sites apparently. ?? It didn't spoil our holiday, you just get used to it. When in 'Rome' and all that !
The wash-up area was covered. Clean, large sinks and drainage areas. Plenty of room. A bin for food wastage was missing but not a major problem.
Washing machines and dryer available. Tokens from reception.
We visited D-day museum/360' cinema and D-day beaches at 'Arromanches' Enjoyed the history and experience of it all. We also visited 'Holgate'. Very pretty town with another sandy, clean beach.
All in all we had an 'outstanding' holiday. We were delighted with our first 'French' camping trip.
Fabulous beach. Well maintained/family campsite. Terrific location. Quality shops/restaurants to choose from. Superb weather.
We will for certain be returning to France next summer.
Ps. Don't forget your French phrase book !
Au revoir - merci beaucoup !
