 I spent three nights at Leigh House and overall I enjoyed my time there. I had spent the previous night in the plum orchard a mile or so up the road, the owner of both sites Nina had kindly helped out as a wedding was taking place on the main field on Saturday. I moved my stuff over on Sunday to see the wedding marquees etc being cleared away.
Facilities are basic, running water a toilet and a shower. Unfortunately these had taken a bit of a battering during the wedding so I tried to avoid them where possible.
My big problem was on the Sunday night, the people clearing the wedding away decided to get a fire going and play guitar till nearly 5 in the morning. I'm not saying this is a regular occurrence but with no owner living on site you are left at the mercy of other campers. After the first night things were quieter.
The site is in a very idyllic spot but also very isolated, bear this in mind if you are backpacking as I was. The Pub down the road 'The Nelson' is a cracker with plenty of guest beers, good food, lots of tradition and a big beer garden. The nearest shop for supplies is about a mile and a half away at Burnham Market so make sure you stock up. There is a kids playground in the next field.
My only real gripe about the site is the length of the grass. With it being so long just leaving your tent for 5 minutes before midday means getting soaking wet, the midges and other biters love the long grass as well.
I know the site is marketed as 'Eu Naturale' but it was such a pity to see only 2 tents on the huge field in the middle of August. If the owners could just give a tiny bit more TLC to the site it could be a real gem.
