We stayed at this campsite when we were attending a river cottage members party. We only stayed for one night as all the B&B's locally were fully booked.
We didn't really have any high expectations as we thought camping areas on a static caravan site would not be great but we were very pleasantly surprised.
The camping area was on a slope but by the edge was flat enough. There were also lovely countryside views. The grass had been freshly mown and the whole site was really clean.
I thought the showers and toilets were lovely, really big and really clean with free hairdryers but no plug sockets (for straighteners).
The staff were really nice and it was a really convenient place for river cottage HQ. It cost about £15 to camp which was a huge saving on the hotel I nearly booked at £120. Next time I would deffinately forget considering a hotel and book straight in the campsite.

We have stayed there for 2 nights over bank holiday weekend in May. We didn't know what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised.
Reception was very pleasant, friendly and always very helpful. There is two big camping fields at the back and we were able to pitch where we wanted. Great views as well.
They have area for static homes, caravans, motorhomes, but everything is very nice located. Pub/club house provide food, drinks and entertainment in the evenings.
Small shop for basic supplies. Shower block was very good, showers spacious, hot water as much as you want. Very impressed.
We went to Lyme Regis for the day, which is just few minutes drive. You can visit other places around. We will definitely go back there in the future!

My family (including 2 children and 2 dogs) went in August 2010. We loved it and will be going back next year. The shower and toilet blocks were clean and always had soap and cleaning mops. Family shower room was very roomy. The bar/restaurant was very friendly with good food (especially the cooked breakfast!)and situated next to the children's play area so they don't get bored. The on site dog walk is a brilliant idea and long enough that the dogs enjoy it.Finally the tent field was quiet and there was plenty of room. Being just 5 minutes from Lyme Regis, we would highly recommend this to families.

We arrived on a windy day to find the field for camping to be slopping - this was a bit of a nuisance, to put it politely.
The facilities we thought were good. Lots has been said about the showers (too hot?) and there was a strange shortage of sink plugs for the men to shave at. The water for cleaning the floor was not changed very often. However, lots of hot water which was great.
Laundry was good - vital as the weather was sadly poor when we were there.
Play area good - though inevitably aimed at the younger end. I thought the indoor play area poor - electronic games machines, pool table and table football - could have done with table tennis.
Bar was fine - for drinks. No idea about the food.
Staff helpful but the hours kept a tad short - 9am - 5pm.
Great geographically - easy to get to the coast and inland to various places.
In trying to find the place, it might help to look for 'Hunters Moon' signs - I guess the previous name of the place; these are in brown on the roads.

We have just spent the bank holiday weekend at this site, we booked late and this was the only one we found in the Lyme Regis area that had availability. After reading some of the reviews about it we were a little nervous. But we had a pleasant stay here.
There were two large fields for tents, plenty of room with mostly flat areas, as it's on fairly high ground it was pretty windy but the plus side was the fields were well drained.
The showers and toilets were a bit of a walk from the camping area but were kept clean, heated towel rails were a nice addition, tried to use the family shower room but couldn't get the shower hot. It was a busy weekend so long queues for the showers. Also there were only 2 sinks to wash up in, inadequate for a busy weekend.
There's a bar and restaurant on site, went to the bar on the second night, it was lovely and warm, with entertainment put on if you like that kind of thing. There's a pub in the pretty village of Hawkchurch a mile up the road, it was closed when we went so can't tell you what that was like, looked nice from the outside though!
Overall we had a good weekend, it was good value for money, not sure we'll go back though as this site is definitely more geared up towards touring caravans and static mobile homes. We prefer a site more geared to camping, but that's personal preference.

This is a nice site about 5-6 miles away from Charmouth and Lyme Regis. There are lots of touring spaces on the site and a fair few statics and a few log cabins, a camping rally field with EHU points and two camping fields (non EHU but if you camped next to the rally field you could use the hook ups available, owners would lend you an extension if needed). There is a clubhouse/bar which we didn't use and didn't hear either as we were in the camping fields.
There is a slope on the camping field, we were at the top on one of the flattest bits but had to jack our camper up about 4 inches on one side (and we sank a couple of inches after a bit of rain). Lovely views over the valley, protected from the back by the statics but might be a bit exposed if the wind comes from the front, not windy while we were there though.
Toilets excellent, very clean and cleaned every day at 11.30. 4 large shower cubicles in the ladies with heated towel rails and a family loo/shower room available. 2 hairdryers freely available but nowhere to plug your own in. Small room with two sinks for pot washing and a elsan point. Another shower block on the other side of touring field -I didn't go in but was told it was of same standard.
Wooded dog walk near to site entrance and a small shop selling basics (bread milk beans etc.)Hardly ever saw the staff but when I did always very polite.
Site is very well kept and always some work going on - not intrusive though.
Kids play area and games room which passed some time for the kids but didn't keep ours entertained for very long. Plenty of room for them to kick a ball about though in camping fields.
Cost us £23 pn for 2 adults 1 child and 1 dog - reasonable for south coast I think in August. Wouldn't go again only because that area of Dorset is pretty dog unfriendly if you have kids with you too - it was really hard work trying to find somewhere we could all go together.

Upon arrival we were met by a couple of young lads and apart from a site map we weren't given any other paperwork, so no rules and regulations which was slightly worrying. We were a bit concerned about the site's quality as it was a last minute decision to go and all other local sites featured on ukcampsite were full yet we were told there was plenty of room; why, what was wrong with the place. Not much really!
There was plenty of space, in fact we had the pick of a number of pitches around the edge of 2 large fields and most of the central areas. Right facilities - There's been previous mention of no lighting in the tent fields; good, I've not been to a non-EHU site that had lighting and would never want to.
It was pretty dry while there but there was a night long rain session and the drainage appeared good. The fields were fairly level in the main with maybe a third a bit too much of a slope for me, but it was empty enough for it not to be a problem. The ground itself was not bumpy at all and didn't have any stones in our area.
There was one family shower room which was adequate but I wish camp sites would provide more shelving, I'm fed up balancing my bags on a nappy changing station. There's a small room for chemical deposal.
The toilet/shower blocks are generally modern and clean with mops provided everywhere for campers to clean up after themselves. I heard one person moan about the mess but that was on a day after rain when everyone's shoes were mucky; what did they expect? The gents had 4 shower rooms with plenty of room and hot towel rails and about 5 toilet cubicles in addition to urinals. The ladies had about the same minus the obvious but with free hairdryers!
There was a problem with water being cold on one day and once reported it was quickly rectified. Notices stated that the owners were sorry the non-adjustable showers couldn't be hotter as that was the law; thank goodness as I found them just bearable and I heard plenty of kids (including mine) telling parents the showers were too hot.
As there was no proper registration I think we could have stayed for as long as we wanted, I don't know how they keep track of campers when it's really busy! We didn't use the play area, restaurant, bar or shop on site so can't say anything about them.
Would I recommend it? Yes, it was quite good; certainly nothing wrong. Would we return? Probably not as there appear to be some fantastic sites around there, that just happened to be full when we went. But if those were full again I'd have no problem returning.

We only went inland to Hawkchurch as all camping on coast was fully booked. It was ok though and cheaper than coast too. It is only about 5 miles from Lyme Regis and only the same to Axminster which has large Tesco.
If you go ask to be in the tent field nearest to toilet block, otherwise bit far away, especially as there is no lighting at all (Definitely take a torch.)
Showers are really good, hot and powerful and shower rooms spacious with heated towel rails!
Had no idea until looking at website when got back that it had a licensed restaurant
Places to visit:-
The Lamb Inn on left just before you get to Axminster served generous portions and most were under £5.
Visited Sidmouth which has some lovely walled gardens/cafe.
Seaton Tramway was fun (and we had no kids with us!) Drivers and staff were friendly and chatty.
Beer Quarry Caves were amazing, never thought about going, just stumbled across them and went in, glad we did.
Did X53 bus into Weymouth. £6.50 for day explorer. Was change from driving.
Disappointed with Terracota Warrior museum in Dorchester, bit small and overpriced I thought.
The walk to Uplyme starting by the old mill at back of town is a hidden gem, really interesting. Can find booklet in tourist info.

Stayed at the temp hol site for camping club members which is a field with hook ups in the middle of the site. The site is at least 2 miles from civilisation
So don't bother if you don't want to drive everywhere. Bar on site ok, no pool table,no dart board, no dogs allowed. Play area small and nowhere near any pitches so you can't keep an eye on small children. One shower block adequate other one nice, heated towel rails, plenty of room.
Will def not bother going club site or temp site again (they are sooo anal!)but the site itself is ok and nice if you like peaceful to the point of coma.
The axminster inn is great, allows kids and dogs nice food and skittle alley, the george in Charmouth also lets in kids and dogs good food play area and goats!
Don't bother with River Cottage canteen five punds for a scotch egg!

The site was reasonably easy to find although many local roads are VERY narrow, try to approach from the A35.
We asked for a level site, electric hook up and room for an awning. We got exactly that. Sloped enough for drainage but no more, hook up only 10m away and a gravelled area, earth beneath for the van and awning.
Reception did not have a welcome pack but readily printed off a map of the site, it was a last minute booking.
The toilet/shower block was clean, tidy and modern. Hot water was not a problem whenever we needed it, in fact I would have liked it a little cooler (personal preference not dangerous).
There was a restaurant on site which we did not try, although obviously many did, they could supply a breakfast from 0830 I believe.
The site was generally well lit, clean and tidy although on 'leaving day' the waste bin did overflow.
There is a local Pub the New Inn although at busy times it can be booked up. Axeminster is close by with a number of coffee shops, bistros and pubs/restaurants.
I would book again.
