This is a charming site with lots of special and thoughtful features. Bags behind the shower doors, indoor washing up area, wonderful hammocks and fire pits by the river. The indoor play barn offers badminton, football, air hockey, table tennis, a TV and connect 4 and us a good space for slightly older children. The site is family orientated and clearly geared towards together time which is lovely. Our children are 5 and 7 and although there are two swings on site, I don't feel there was quite enough outside space away from cars for them to play. A bit of climbing equipment would make a big difference but the site is very friendly. The showers are very clean and hot water and wide shower heads. The downside is that the site was very busy, which I don't object to, but there are on, y two male showers and toilets and two female, with e communal toilet near the river. Not enough to cope with a popular site, which otherwise would be perfect, I would recommend the site, as it is in a great location but I am not sure we would go back until our children are a bit older and if the increase the facilities. Very friendly and helpful welcome, however, and you cannot fault the atmosphere in site.

Woodview is a blossoming campsite with a lot of potential for the future. We arrived at the very start of the summer holidays and watched the site fill up a little more each day over the course of our week. It has some niggles, but nothing to spoil our holiday and is pretty much perfect when it's not busy.

Let's start from the beginning. It's well signposted and easy to find from the A39 in either direction. We were greeted by the friendly owner who provided an annotated map and offered advice on where everything is. We were offered a choice of two pitches and opted to be on the end of a row rather than surrounded in the middle. It was a bit noisier due to everyone having to come past us (on gravel), but made access easier for us. It looked like cars in the middle pitches had to block each other in. There are alternating rows of grass and concrete which appears to be a very organised layout but there are no marked pitches so it's not as obvious and there is no convention as to which way to face. Our first neighbours' tent had their only (side) door facing us so we had to keep one side door and window permanently closed for privacy which meant our tent got very hot. I think if there were some boundary markings (even pegs and string) and the caravans were all parked in one row rather than in amongst the tents it would make things easier.

The site has some great features which really made our stay. The firepits are proper stone circles for an authentic experience and the hammocks were a lovely touch. We got in early both times to bag a firepit with a picnic table and a hammock. There were a couple of swings for the kids and the games barn which we loved.

The shower / toilet facilities were always clean though crowded as the site got busier. I had one cold shower on Saturday evening as the masses arrived, after which the owner put up a sign explaining just to wait an hour for the water to heat up. There was often a queue for the showers although at 7am I never had to wait. There isn't much space though and it was awkward to use toilet / sink etc when there was a queue. In the evenings it was very hot in there as there appears to be no windows / ventilation in the block. I think the campsite could do with more toilets / showers / washing up sinks even if it was just a portacabin hired in for the summer hols.

The campsite is in a very rural location so you have to drive everywhere. It's 15 / 20 mins from Bude's main beach but there are so many wonderful beaches to choose from. Within a 30 min drive you can access everywhere along the coast from Crackington Haven (beautiful) to Westward Ho! (amusement arcades were the only redeeming feature) thanks to the A39. You could easily visit a different fantastic beach every day for a week.

Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

We visited this site for 8 out of the 9 nights that we booked. There are two pluses to a visit here: The play barn is a good space for children to make friends and burn off some energy, and the fire pits next to the stream are nice to socialize around with friends as we did.

However, we felt that these aspects were dampened by the negatives:

On arrival, the owner said that money was owed to them. She later found the cheque that we had posted to them prior to arrival, and that she had neglected to bank.

We were also told that we had been incorrectly invoiced and that we did in fact owe another £18 for the privilege of parking our car on site. Surely a mistake of this kind should be absorbed by the campsite if they are at fault.

The owners squeeze units onto every available bit of grass or concrete; this is regardless of whether it is a spare bit of grass or a pitch that is paid for and occupied by another paying customer. It also results in some vehicles getting blocked in.

Because of this squeezing on of campers, the toilets and showers are completely maxed out and cannot cope. Queues, cold showers and toilets not flushing, and waiting for washing up facilities are a result of this. Also, considering that they are not mains and do not want certain things being flushed, the bins in the ladies cubicles were full to brimming; in fact one wasn't emptied during our entire stay.

There were many campers on site who were more than dissatisfied with their experience, however, when they approached the owner about any issues, it appears that the rules are made up to suit them as they go along. One poor lady was in tears, and another couple were told (having paid extra for a bigger pitch) that they don’t offer bigger pitches. (I hope that they will also review this site so that my review has some credibility) This pitch sizing is clearly an issue as the owner moaned to us on arrival that tents are getting bigger all the time and that he cannot accommodate them. Maybe they should do what other sites do: clearly define pitch areas, and agree on a maximum tent size occupying their pitches. At least then things are clear between owners and customers. This lax approach (or money making approach) also means that there are insufficient gaps between tents. I’m not Au fait with safety regulations, but I do know that when the owner took three steps toe to heel from the tent next to us and told us to pitch, that I did not feel that this was right. Also, an electric hook up cable was fed over the road in pieces of plastic tubing. I didn't feel happy driving over this at all.

Anyway, if you do venture to Bude, which happens to be a lovely town, we highly recommend the Mermaid chip shop at the top of the town; they serve the nicest chips that we've eaten in a long time. Also, the Tasty Pasties shop next door to the Mermaid has the most amazing pasties and a large choice of flavours.

We left a day early, however, in all fairness this wasn't to do with the site, but was because of the predicted weather for the Bank Holiday Monday (today). Having said that, I did feel quite glad to be leaving. Even though our children (13 & 11) enjoyed the barn and fire pits, they felt that the facilities let the site down.

We visited this site due to the previous reviews however, weren't overly enamoured by it mainly due to being crammed in like sardines with about 6 feet between us the next person on 3 sides.

Pros

Camp fires and hammocks with the nearby stream are a lovely touch.

Toilets and showers were clean

2 swings for children to play on.

Quite close to a few nice beaches.

The games room has some stuff for kids but the door is exceptionally heavy so adults need to go as well.

Cons

No designated pitches so people pitch where they like and as close to you as they like! You may find that, like us, you leave a small area clear for outside dining and then come back from the beach to find someone has pitched a tent in it.

Only 2 showers and 2 toilets in each of the ladies and gents which can get crowded if the site is full.

There is no system regarding where you park your car in relation to your tent/caravan. Some parked above on the hard surface and some below. This can mean that you may find your car stuck in the middle with no way in or out!

Other than the beaches, there is not an awful lot to do in the area. There is no area on the site itself for any kind of open area games.

We stayed at this site at the beginning of the summer school holidays. The journey to the site from the A39 is a bit tight and I imagine could be troublesome if towing a caravan as there are numerous blind bends and not many passing points, so the ability to reverse your unit is essential.

Upon arrival our initial impression of the site was good and it seemed well maintained. Unfortunately this was soon undone by the pitch we were given and the instruction not to pitch over a recently vacated pitch, thus restricting how we could set up even though we paid for a larger pitch. Also, whilst looking around the site it was apparent that Tents were pitched very close together (too close, in my opinion!). On one occassion I witnessed someone having to ask there neighbour to lift the guy ropes to their awning so that they could get their car and caravan out.

The facilities are insufficient for the number of people on site and queues are common for showers and even washing up sinks.

The WiFi is unreliable to say the least and even though the owner stated he has fitted a booster there is a chair outside the main toilet block with a sign 'WiFi Hotspot' stuck to it.

To top off our dissapointment with this site we came back after a day out to find a tent picthed so close I could have laid down with my head in my tent and my feet in theirs, and to add insult to injury it was over the pitch we had been told to avoid. The family of this tent were very apologetic and stated that they would have been closer if they had not moved their tent when the owner left them to set up. I tried to speak to the owner but he seemed dismissive and did not see it as an issue.

Due to the site, facilities and overcrowding not being how it was advertised we left after three days without refund, even though I did request one.

Would I stay here again - NO

Would I recommend to someone else - NO

Spent a week here at Whitsun

Campsite is fairly new and still developing. All pitches are on a slight slope but not to bad, nice views though. Only, 2 toilets and 2 showers in the main block it was not to busy when we were there but if busy this, would be an issue. There is a shop but on the 3 occasions I went to use it for bread and milk it was closed this was always between 8and 9 in the morning. I also knocked on the house to get some one to serve me but again no reply. There is little, point in having a shop if no one is going to serve you. There are campfires and hammocks at the bottom of the site which is a nice touch. Not a bad site but need some basic improvements with the shop and toilet blocks

Avoid this site, it is a fire risk. I have complained to the Cornwall council on the amount of units/tents the owner crams in to this site, we were pitched within touching distance to our neighbours.

In its favour, I believe that during quieter times it would be pleasant to stay here as the fire pits and hammocks are a highlight to the site.

The owners should consider the campers and put safety before profit.

I chose this site mainly because it allowed real fires on site. The fire pits strategically placed along the adjacent stream were fantastic. After purchasing a large bag of seasoned logs from reception I set about making the fire. My son and I then spent most of the night chatting around the glow of the flames. There was a good deal of privacy due to the fire pits being situated below the camp site level.

The chemical disposal point was clean and tidy and also the toilet and shower block.

The camp site was well laid out and fairly level in all pitches.

Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this site to anyone.

A brilliant site that we would fully recommend. The facilities were excellent. Exceptionally clean, modern showers and toilets. Laundry facilities. Indoor play area for all ages. Bbq facilities at the bottom of the site next to a stream. Very pleasant, friendly owners who gave good advice about the local eateries, beaches etc. All in all a brilliant site that I would fully recommend and definitely visit again.

A fantastic little place. The facilities were brilliant, the showers/toilets were clean at all times. A clever idea if putting nets on the back of the doors to keep clothes DRY! as well as 4 hooks on the side which also stayed dry. There was the main toilet block and another at the bottom of the field. With a little wash place. There was also an inside washing up area for those more blustery days in Cornwall. In one of the large sheds there was a games room with a football area with two goals, an air hockey table, little pool table, table tennis and a badminton net. The ground is on a little bit of a slope but there are hard standings, just not so great for tents, having said that I have stayed on campsites with more of a steeper incline. There are some lovely beaches around this area, such as, Widemouth Bay. There are two pubs in Kilkhampton (the local village). We ate at the London Inn, which was okay but not great. We will try the other pub next time. There is of course Bude as well a lovely beach and great town. Bude has a little cafe calls 'Life's a Beach' this overlooks the beach. Everyone there was friendly and it was relaxed. They also allow BBQ's and have fire pits and hammocks by the stream, which is just beautiful. This campsite is lovely!
