This is the type of site that I am reluctant to leave a good review for in case I can't get booked in again. I have just returned from 4 nights here over Easter, with my two teenage children and hubby.
The wardens where a lovely couple that organised a Easter raffle for the weekend and there is a small table top bric a brac sale on a Sunday.
There are no facilities on site for children and no space for ball games. There are so many great walks from the site and in the rspb visitors centre next door has a cafe, bike hire, wooden play area, orchard and some craft shops.
Will definitely be back.

We stayed here one very cold autumn weekend just before half term and it was absolutely beautiful. It is surrounded by trees and next door is the Fineshade Forestry Commission wood and visitor centre, superb for dogs and children alike.
The site has a mix of grass and hardstandings and is very well laid out. There are no toilets/showers here so your own facilities are essential.
There is lots to do around here including Geoff Hamiltons garden at Barnsdale, rutland water and stamford which is a lovely market town. Thoroughly recommended and we will be back.

We originally intended only to stay 3 nights before moving on, but liked it so much we stayed for 8. A lovely site, well maintained with spacious pitches. Extremely quiet and peaceful.
Great walks in the woods next door, and we spotted 3 Red Kites during our stay. The village of Stamford is very nice as is Oakham. Good local bakers, butchers etc.
We will definitely return, a great area with lots to see and do. As mentioned, no toilet or shower block, so may not be suitable for those with children.

We love this site, We can crash out and chill the whole time, very quiet and friendly site.
You can buy basic provisions from the shop including order the daily papers.
We spent the saturday walking through fineshade woods, which if you have a dog is the perfect walk. Its next door to the site and has a gift shop, cafe and loo facilities 10-5. There are signposted walks for you to choose from, short and long walks, we walked for miles and found the hidden hut for bird watching which by the amount of people in there is very popular, we found it fascinating.
If you want somewhere to get away from it all this is the perfect site for you.
As its a local site to us, we are sure to visit again.

We have been talking about visiting this 'local' site for a few years and finally made a weekend trip, we loved it and felt we were a million miles away but were in fact an 18 mins drive away from home. Approach to the site is down a narrow single track road, but has plenty of signposted 'Passing Places'. We booked in quick and the owners really friendly, reception includes a book swap / donation, on sale were rolls, cakes etc, and you can order daily papers there too. The site is kept very clean and was almost full whilst we were there for the weekend but was still very quiet, which on this occasion was just what we needed. The site is a minute walk to Fineshade Woods, operated by the Forestry Commission and RSPB. There is a shop, cafe with toilets(open 10 to 5). There are signposted walks throughout the woods, we took one of the short walks as we had spent most of the Saturday in the beautiful Stamford and got back late in the afternoon when we were losing light. But when we go back we intend to go on the longer walk. We had a meal in the Royal Oak pub in Duddington, which is approx 2 miles away,in the summer you could possibly walk (there is no path most of the way, so you have to walk on a grass verge along side the road) But we had one of the best meals and will be going back. Top Lodge is a lovely site, well worth a visit.

Visited this site for 5 nights and ended up staying for 13 at a cost of £118. It was 120 miles from home so the cost of fuel to tow the van and visit a few places such as Stamford and Oundle (which incidentally are delightful old y worldly places)cost £50 in total. This is a no facilities site and the water and waste disposal are kept spotlessly clean by the helpful friendly wardens. The site fills up at the weekend but your own facilities are never overloaded, ha ha. For most of the time we walked the woods with our two cocker spaniel dogs. There is a lovely 2mile walk into the village of Kings Cliffe which has a gorgeous home made bakery in what looks like a house with a HOVIS sign over the window. We took a rucksack and bought a few supplies. On the walks, there is plenty of wild life to be seen including Fallow, Roe and Muncjac Deer. There is a similar walk to a village called Duddington and nearly all the villages in the area are quaint with thatched roofed cottages. This place is off the planet and time slows down. There is a hide just through the wood and wild life can be observed at leisure in all weathers. At the time of our visit the area had no rain and the locals were saying how desperate they were to get rain as the ground was so dry.Wakerly Ancient Wood is just down the road and this wood has a different feel to that at the site which is in Fineshade wood. All in all we had a fabulous time and would recommend the area to anyone who wants a relaxing chilled out holiday leaving the car and walking in delightful surroundings especially suited to those with caravanning dogs.

This was the first site that we visited with the new caravan being complete novices. We had decided not to travel far from home and I am very glad that we chose to visit the site . The staff were friendly and the site wonderful. It was quite full over the weekend and outside of the site on the adjacent Forestry Commission Site there were a lot of visitors but it did not seem overly crowded. Quiet, lovely walks on which we often felt we were the only ones there! The red kites were fantastic and it was fantastic to be able to watch the birds in the nest from the barn areas via the cameras that had been installed. Whilst the site is close to home we will be visiting again and often . Would recommend to anyone .Whilst there weren't many children about those that were there were not treated as being 'a nuisance' by anyone.
We did not feel that the lack of the amenity block was a problem and were happy to use our own facilities but if I was visiting with a family of children then this may have felt a gap on the site

Lovely small site in a great location, haven't been for a few years but looking forward to going back soon.
If I re-call the wardens name - it was Diane at the time who had the most fab hanging baskets and flower displays.
The site itself was very well kept with super nature walk by the site.
The town of Stamford is well worth a visit too.
Rutland Water is fairly near and a nice interesting place to visit for the day with plenty of car parking and a cafe.

This is a lovely site. Approach to the site is via a narrow single track road, but has plenty of designated 'Passing Places'. As you enter Top Lodge, bear left and you will see the Caravan Club Sign. Booking in was quick and friendly.Pitches were large and gravel hardstanding. The site was full whilst we were there and I can see why.Its situated next to Finshade Woods, operated by the Forestry Commission and RSPB. There are a number of walks of various lengths and duration, accessible for walkers and cyclists alike. The walks are 'themed' e.G Smelters Trail, Wildlife, ancient woodland etc. There are Wildlife hides so don't forget your binoculars and camera's. There is a Cafe and shop with TV monitor of a Red Kites nest.We only stayed one night so unfair to comment re local places to visit or eat. Despite NO Toilet/Showers,it was a lovely time and weather great. TV was fair. Plenty of Service points. Would I visit again despite lack of Loos. Most definitely.

Wonderful place set in lovely woodland area. Many walks to suit any age. Really enjoyed by all.
The children loved the viewing huts and was safe for them to play. There were loads of wildlife including a dear!
The site was clean and well maintained. The lady who runs the site is lovely and any problem just find her and she will sort it out.
It was a very enjoyable stay.
