Visited for a long weekend, end of June. Lovely quiet little site, surrounded by Finshade wood, with clearly maked footpaths, which makes for a pleasant evening walk. RSPB lodge next door, with a tv camera overlooking a Red Kite nest.
Visited Geoff Hamiltons Barnsdale gardens, Rutland water & Stamford a very pleasant town to explore.
If you are happy to use your own vans facilities as there are no toilets/shower block, can highly recomend this site for a peaceful Weekend or maybe longer.

We stayed at this site in August 2007 and was a bit dubious at first as it was our first caravan club site not to have facilities on site. We found we could have been staying on a adult only site as it was so quiet, the woodland walks are lovely and the new cafe area and small home crafts shops are quite nice. We found the nearest supermarket to get to was Morrisons in Stamford, were there are some nice little cafe's and walks around the town centre.
Rutland water is well worth a visit and the the Rutland Belle that takes you on a cruise around the reservoir is well worth a trip. Whilst we stayed there we were fortunate as the weather turned quite hot after all the heavy storms of recent months before. The wardens seemed very helpful and friendly we will definitely go back but maybe a toilet block wouldn't be a miss on this site. But if you have a well enough equipped unit to stay in then its not too much of a hassle. I'm glad we decided to originally purchase such a caravan, a large family with inadeqate showering facilities may struggle on this site.

This site is surrounded by woodland right off the main road, it has some hard and some grass pitches. We opted for a hard standing and I'm glad we did because with it being a bank holiday the site soon got full and some of the grass pitches looked a bit tight. You will need your own facilities, the site is very basic, it does have electric points, taps and disposal points. This makes the site fees very reasonable. The reception sells the essentials, bread, milk, e.t.c. The nearest village is a couple of miles away. There are way marked paths around the woods although you are free to walk wherever you want it is a dogs paradise. There is also Wakerley woods just up the road this has way marked walks too. The barn nearby run by the forestry commission mentioned in the other review is no longer open. It is the ideal place for a peaceful relaxing break, but if you want things other than walks and nature to keep you occupied then it's not for you. We will be visiting this site again.

Spring Bank Holiday 2004 Just got back from this lovely little site. As previous reviews mention, this is a great site in the middle of excellent dog walking forestry. It was full over the Bank holiday weekend and I was a little disapointed to find a lot of the grass pitches extremely close together, ours included. However, that apart, we had a lovely time. Found the Asda at Corby, massive! You could order papers through the wardens and they also had milk, bread and cakes available as well as the most important thing...ice lollies! Well worth a visit!

October 2003 Wonderful site set in a clearing in Fineshade Woods. No toilet facilities so need your own, hence the lower charge. Long may the Caravan Club keep these unspoilt sites for those members who still do not want "all singing, all dancing sites". The peaceful location was lovely. October a lovely time to visit due to the colour of the surrounding trees. Lots of birds, wildlife etc. Plenty of walks and cycling from the site itself. Lovely towns and villages in the area to visit and also the added attraction of Rutland Water not too far away with its walks and cycling. With regard to previous message, we didn't see any vans with newspapers etc arrive whilst we were there. The warden said the nearest shops were in the village at the back of the woods which you can walk or drive to. Recommend this site highly if you want peace and quiet.

June 2003 Further to the previous review, this site is local to me. I live a few miles away. This site is set in the middle of Forestry Commission land, a very peaceful location. There is also a barn which shows videos of the nests of Red Kites and their young which are nesting in the area. The Rangers are very informative and there is usually a display of recent finds (egg shells, what used to build the nest etc.) The nearest place for grocery shopping is Weldon, (left at the bottom of the lane). It is a lovely village with a post office, hairdressers, three lovely pubs with meals available and a supermarket for everything. A little further on is the village of Stanion which has two pubs both serving excellent food. Corby is the nearest town with lots of discount type shops, but on the outskirts is a fabulous ASDA store.
