We stayed at Cheston for just one night and, after having read all the favourable reviews, we were generally disappointed.
The first snag encountered was the small size and positioning of the pitches, which proved very tricky to negotiate with our medium sized motorhome. Small wooden fences around each pitch added to the difficulties as did ornamental tyres, pile of spare gravel and stored caravan: very little space to reverse into position.
Although the site is pleasantly grassed with attractive trees and shrubs, the electric hook-ups and toilet block seem neglected.
Had we paid only half of the £18 charged, we may have been happy. To be asked for a further 50p for a shower token just added to the shock.
We will not be returning.

We (myself, husband and 7 year old son) were following National Cycle Route 2 and were relieved to come across this campsite which seemed to us to be in the middle of nowwhere. (If you have a car, it is secluded but not too far from anywhere). The campsite was very quiet.
Since we were cycling, we were not cooking so are unable to comment on these facilities). We were able to walk to South Brent, (just over a mile away) which the nearest village with pub/restaurant). The bus stop was about a 15 to 20 minute walk away in the opposite direction. We were able to get a family day ticket for £10 where we could travel on any First buses in Cornwall/Devon. One day we went to Totnes and another we went to Paignton.
I thought that there would be queues for the one shower but there was never anybody else using this when I needed to. The site is clean and well maintained. It is, however, very close to the railway line. This never bothered us though.

Once again, we have had a lovely, relaxed stay at Cheston Caravan and Camping Site. The family have made fantastic refurbishments to the site, enhancing the surroundings and showing Devon at it's best this summer.
It's been almost a year since our last visit and the new hard standings, electric hook ups and water point have made our stay even easier.
I still find the price of our stay very reasonable in comparison to other places in the area and will, of course, return as soon as we can.

What a lovely campsite. The owners were very welcoming they even made us a cuppa whilst we pitched our tent. Nothing was too much trouble and they knew plenty of places to go and see whilst visiting South Devon.
The site itself is small(2 small fields) but well maintained and sheltered, with level pitches, plenty of hedging and plants for privacy. We arrived after a week of unsettled weather and plenty of rain but the ground wasn't boggy. We were greeted by the resident guinea pigs -11 in total and a couple of cats. There is a train track close to the site but the trains don't run through the night and they didn't wake us up in the mornings.
The loos and showers are adequate and clean with soap, hand towels and toilet paper being replenished daily. The shower uses a 50p token.
Ivybridge and South Brent are are the nearest villages and there's a post office on the main A38 a couple of minutes drive away. The sites location is great for exploring South Devon.
We had a fantastic holiday which was made all the better for staying at this quiet family run campsite. We will certainly be returning at some point in the future.

We have just returned home from a seven night stay and from the moment we drove on to the campsite to our departure we were made to feel very welcome by the campsite owners who readily offered advise on the best places to visit catering to our own personal interests.
The site itself is quiet and well maintained, we have visited numerous sites in the past and this is one of only a handful where we have been able to go to sleep and wake up in our own time (a bonus in my book) It is also surrounded by trees giving a lovely feel to the site.
The shower block and toilets which at first seemed to be a little small coped well and did not cause any problems with queues and were cleaned regularly.
We were also able to have hook-up at no extra cost although I believe they have limited spaces for these.
The location of Cheston is very good being within easy reach of towns, beaches, attractions or lovely walks over Dartmoor, in fact there is probably something to do that would appeal to all ages.
We would have no hesitation in returning again.

We have used this site on many occasions and have found it perfect for a quiet and peaceful get-away.
The facilities are all that we would expect and the owners are very helpful. The site is clean and the grass is cut regularly. The bad weather of 2012 did not cause any problems.
The local town of South Brent has all the facilities and shops / pubs that would satisfy any camper. There is also a Post Office and Garage on the A38 slip road into the town.
We would thoroughly recommend this site.

We found this to be a small, intimate and pretty site. Clean shower( 50p tokens needed) and toilets plus plenty of hook ups. Red kites and buzzards can be seen near the site, alongside plenty of smaller birds that gather around the feeders. The wandering guinea pigs are also rather cute to watch.
The site is only a five minute car journey from south brent(which is on the major A road). It is ideally situated for walking access to the moors and to the local reservoir, which is a beautiful walk. It is only a short car ride to lively Totnes and on to the coast.
The owners were very helpful and friendly.

Friendly site and helpful people with good warm atmosphere, made to feel very welcome, good access to moors and reasonable distance to many local beaches and villages, very clean and well kept site with lovely surroundings. National park close by with plenty of good hiking or gentle walking. Site toilets cleaned at least twice a day very tidy and good long showers impeccably clean definitely a close family run site catered for all families. Will definitely be coming back for a quiet relaxed holiday at Cheston, best wishes.

We found Cheston Caravan and Camping Park to be, by far, one of the best sites we have visited. We found the owners friendly, welcoming and very attentive throughout our stay.
The site and surrounding area is beautiful and beaches and local villages are easily accessible. As we have encountered facilities on other sites to be of a low standard, we were pleased to find the facilities here ie the toilet block, to be of a high standard of cleanliness, always tidy and well stocked.
Overall, we had a lovely stay at Cheston and would not hestitate to return.
