Because of the poor reviews, this was not a site I would have chosen, but it was recommended to us as being under new management and improved.
It is now called the Blackcock Inn camp site, but sadly, it does not seem to have improved at all and no investment has been made. Everything seemed very tired/jaded/worn out. Hard standings were covered in weeds and the grass was over long. A rather gruesome-looking pond by the shower block was unfenced and very dangerous for kids. The shop was not stocked and thus not open. The water in the swim pool was a little murky, and there were plants growing in from the outside.
There are two dish-washing sinks on the outside of the shower block, but none of the taps worked - had to get water from the sink in the laundry.
To cap it all, there was no hot water for 2 days as they had run out of oil!
The only positive was that it was cheap - at least via Groupon. I had paid for a 3-night voucher and booked in for a total of 5 nights, but we left after the 3 nights.
A great pity really as the site and pub have great potential, but wants a lot of money invested to bring it up to scratch.
I won't return unless I hear that it has been improved.

I have just come back from yeo holiday park. It was the worse park I have ever been on. The first two nights I was kept awake with loud music shouting and people running around my caravan. I complained but was told it's ok to do this! There was no shop even though it says there is the pool was closed but I wasn't told this when I rang to book. In total it's a very poor site in disrepair the only good thing was the two men miles and mike who couldn't do enough. The food is expensive. There is a pond which had no life ring or fence next to the shower block which is clean but has open drainage. It's a very basic site. And nothing like was stated in the caravan club book. Stay clear if you have children they will have nothing to do. It needs renovating.

We have just got back from a nights stay and would definitely return. Yes it's a little rustic in places but, clean, friendly, reasonably priced for pitch, The pub the black cock had reasonably priced drinks and the food was excellent. The location is stunning and toilets and showers clean and tidy.
The landlord was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, I have seen some bad reviews for this place but check it out, it's well worth a visit and it can't be faulted for value for money.

I have just returned from a long weekend trip to this site with my family and sisters family. Our first impression if the site was it looked a little tired and could do with some tlc. We were shown to our pitch by a very pleasant lady who I believe was the owner.
We couldn't get over how quiet the site was as it was BH weekend. There was only 1 other tent and a handful of caravans. The lady told us that the pitches were a little wet as they had had a lot of rain. That was an understatement it was saturated. When we walked inside our tent it felt like we were walking on a shaggy carpet it was so soft.
By the time we got to day 3 of living in wellies and waterproofs because of the mud we ended up laying black sacks all over the floor outside the tent we couldn't stand the mud anymore.
The best thing about this site was the showers although they were old they were spotless and lots of hot water. Sorry wouldn't go here again!

Have just returned from a 3 night holiday at Yeo Valley. We were a group of 12 adults and were left to our own devices and given a large area to pitch in. Overall our holiday was great!
The owners were nice and allowed us all to stay in the pub till half 12 to watch the Olympics. The Pub food is delicious and should be highly regarded as to my knowledge there is only one chef (who is also the owner).
There is a large heated pool but it is unsupervised, some of the tiles in the pool need replacing though because they can scratch your feet a bit.
The campsite itself is very nice and gives you a real camping experience. Not very many other people on site so we had lots of room.
Only criticism would be that the men's toilets were filled with bugs, although the female ones were spotless. The toilet and showers are warm but need updating.
Great experience with Yeo Valley and the owners should be very proud. Booking highly recommended.

A year on since our first visit and thought would update with another review.
Sadly, the park since last year has deteriorated in appearance. We arrived and was met by the same warden and given a choice of pitches, hardstanding or grass (site was very quiet and really at this point we really should have turned the car around and drove away!) The grass was very wet, muddy and squelchy and the hardstandings were a lot to be desired. Potholes with standing water on some of the hardstanding pitches and even less gravel on them than last year. We plumped for a hardstanding as could see the few tenters on site were having a hard time on grass. It became a running joke in our family that the pitch was a 'mud standing' rather than a hardstanding as the pitch really was shocking. I couldn't stand the thought of traipsing in the mud into the camper so we drove to South Molton Mole Valley and bought a large tarpaulin to place on the 'mud standing' to keep the mess to a minimum!
The warden mentioned they had had a lot of rain prior to our arrival (not the site's fault) but unfortunately Yeo Valley doesn't seem to cope with the rain like other sites do. The road/walk to the toilet block was very slippery (due to lack of hardcore/chipping) which made walking to the loo precarious especially at night.
The shower block, as last year was clean and perfectly serviceable (old & basic block) Shower pressure & warmth is the best I have encountered on any site.
It's such a shame that a year on I couldn't write a review from a happier perspective. We felt for the price we had paid for x2 nights (nearly £60) was very steep seeing as we've had to come home with everything covered in mud after being on a hardstanding! We felt like ordering a load of stone chippings and tidying the place up whilst we were there, the warden is a nice enough fella and seems to run the site single handed in the Summer months but you never see anyone milling about the place cutting grass or DIY-ing about the park like you do on other sites.
Yeo Valley could be a little gold mine if only the effort was put in. There is the making of a gem of a park if only there was some care and attention given as it's in a perfect location (very peaceful in rolling countryside) and easily accessible to the main A361 link road to North Devon.
To sum up - poor :(
We won't be returning again it hurts me to say. We are not fussy campers at all but not even the basics (the pitches!) are addressed here. We can get better for cheaper elsewhere.

Came here for Aug Bank Hol weekend, site was not full. Easy to find with clear directions from the A361 dual carriageway. Easily Booked in at the pub as reception was unmanned.
On first impression I would describe this site as a little 'rough around the edges', if you like grass manicured within an inch of it's life (as per CC sites) you will not like Yeo Valley. We were initially going to stay one night only (owner had no quibble with one night stays even in high season) and we enjoyed it so much that we stayed another two nights.
We would call this a hidden gem - quiet in rural typical Devon rolling countryside but within easy access to Mid Devon, Exmoor and the North Devon coast. Site lovely for families who want to get away from it all and have a laid back holiday - there is a lovely indoor swimming pool (with walk-in steps) with changing area and the temperature of the water was very warm.
Indoor play room with air hockey, pool table and a couple of amusement machines. Swings & slide. These were across the country lane from the pub so caution is required with little ones. Although the children in our party much preferred the rope swings hanging from the big old oak tree on the main site anyway.
Showers are not posh or modern but were spotlessly clean and smelt fresh whenever you went into them - despite it being a bank holiday weekend I only ever saw one other person in the shower block for our entire stay. The showers are push button type but the pressure and warmth from them well beat any CC site I have stayed on. Hairdryer 20p. Small washing up area.
The Blackcock Inn offers various takeaways (curries, burgers etc) and also a breakfast if you don't feel like cooking. Popular pub with the locals, always busy when we were there. A site ideal for dog walkers, just behind our pitch at the bottom of the site was a path that lead directly onto an old railway line which goes up the valley into the woods and you can walk for miles without seeing another soul.
One thing that may bother 'city' folk is the field next door to the tent area, cockerels were crowing very early in the morning followed by geese, ducks, etc. We have chickens at home so this did not bother us and after the first night we slept through them crowing.
To sum up - a natural, rural, basic site. Simple but clean facilities with the added bonus of the Inn next door and a lovely indoor pool, set within some picturesque countryside. We will be back.

We found this site by chance and booked it purely because there was a local country pub on site. We were pleasantly surprised by the site - very well laid out, old fashioned but extremely clean toilet block. The showers were hot - there was a small laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. There was also a freezer where you could freeze your freezer blocks free of charge.
There was also a washing up block outside. Plenty of bins, water taps and waste disposal. There was a very small shop on site but this always seemed to be closed. There was also a telephone box as you cant get a signal on your mobile !
We were extremely surprised however to find the site pretty empty, which considering it was a Bank Holiday was a shame. Not sure why this site was not filled to its capacity !
The only downside for us visiting this site was the pub grub! It was pretty poor to say the least which was such a shame. Other campers agreed with us on this but apparently the breakfast was great ! It was pricey too for what you got !
If you are a light sleeper be warned - there are numerous cockerels in the neighbouring field who start crowing very loudly in the very early hours - but hey you are in the Country so what do you expect !

We stayed on this site on the 2nd bank holiday in May ‘10. On turning up, for what we had paid, I was disappointed in the upkeep of the grounds, it could be greatly improved but as it was not full we were allowed to be generous with our pitch size.
The on site shop was not open the entire time we were there. Even though we had pre paid our booking had been lost, as had my sisters. She was staying in one of the Static vans available on site.
The toilet blocks were dated but very clean. There was an odd water set up which was far from ideal and the tap for washing your toilet was right next to the fresh water tap, maybe not the best idea.
We did eat at the pub which was convenient but the food was very average (and the toilets had a terrible smell to them). There was live music though on the Saturday night.
I did not see the pool or play area but over all it could be a great site with a bit more effort and attention to detail, shame really.

This site was nice and serviceable. The owners showed us around and let us pick our pitches, they asked that we not put awnings on the grass as they had a bad year last year with the weather which was fine. A bit hard getting the pegs into the hardstanding rubble but no problem really. The toilets and showers were a bit old but clean and tidy and showers very warm.
Water points easy to get to, plenty of space on each pitch.
The walk along the old railway in the woods was lovely and there were on site ducks and local pheasants that patrolled. The owners ask dogs to always be on a lead because of ducks etc, but that was ok because they allowed us to put windbreaks around for the dogs to roam.
Pub serves really nice food and are very friendly, even the locals spoke to us. Only downside is the pub toilets are in real need of a clean up, there is a nasty smell and the laminate flooring is lifting. Swimming pool was ok but had to pay for it.
We even had the excitement of a pony being born in the next field.
Meant to leave at 10am on departure day but they told us the night before not to rush and go when we wanted as no one was due in on our pitches.
