This is a great location, in the beautiful Yeo valley just south of Exmoor. A convenient disused railway line runs very close and is accessible from the site, brilliant for walking our two labradors and links to some great walking up to Exmoor.
Having phoned around Devon to find somewhere for a few days over the New Year most of our favourite sites were full so we were surprised to find this one virtually empty (only one campervan apart from us)especially as it is attached to a pub. The owners sounded great and enthusiastic on the phone but when we arrived (Zena's) greeting was to admonish us that we were parked the wrong way around. That was it really unless we went across the road to the pub (mediocre and like the site in need of TLC, called the 'Black Cock' but known locally as the 'Dirty Dick') we didn't see them.
Initially the water in the shower block was piping hot and needed to be to help the two miserable little rads that fought with the artic wind coming through the four inch gap under the exterior door! The evening when the hot showers gave up the ghost I went across to the pub and was told that they would 'pop over in the morning to have a look'. The sparse dustbins were full and never emptied and although I accept it was very very cold all the freshwater taps were frozen solid (insulation?), the whole place had a forlorn sad look to it.
This is all such a shame a little TLC and some interest from the owners would transform this untidy and shabby site back to how it probably was a few years ago.
If you do stay be sure to visit Molland with its welcoming and cosy 'London Inn'. We made it part of a lovely 4/5 mile circular walk. Were this site cheap then you could forgive it's faults because of the location but it cost us £20 per night.

The site itself is in a nice location but seemed a bit run down during our visit. There were signs up by the bins saying 'Please bag up your rubbish and place in the bins so as not to feed the rodents' which made me laugh as the bins were overflowing with rubbish and some strewn across the floor!
If you like microwaved food then the pub is okay but they were hopelessly slow with orders and I noticed one table of diners waited nearly two hours for their food and ended up walking out. The owners did not seem to care either. They start orders at 6-30pm for food and the chefs turned up at 6-30pm! Don't expect quick orders and the wait is not really worth it either.
We did visit out of school holiday season so not sure what it would be like during busier times - hopefully better but if it is the same standard then avoid like the plague.
Overall impression - nice site but the site had a very unkempt run down feel to it.

When we booked we were not told that the play area was broken and not safe for the children to play on. We chose this site for the play area. The pitch was on a slope with stones 1 inch under the grass. We rate this site a 5/10. The toilet block is a bit dated as well. We were welcomed with open arms and well looked after. The shop has a very small stock, yes the site is across the road from play area and pub so mind the road but its on a county road.

Spent five days here over the New Year holiday in our caravan. Despite the very wet and windy weather, there were more tourers and motorhomes here than we expected.
There were no facilities open except the toilet block, but this is normal in the winter months. The pub provided welcome respite in the evenings with friendly bar staff and decent food.
On New Years Eve there was live entertainment in the form of a good singer and the fancy dress proved very popular with regulars of the pub and campsite alike.
The ground would benefit from a fresh layer of gravel to prevent the many puddles we stumbled into on the dimly lit pathways and the the removal of some badly placed white painted boulders on the perimeter of each pitch would allow better manoeuvring.
All in all a decent site that we should like to return to in better weather.

The first thing I must say about this site is you'll probably need some rock pegs, the pub was doing a roaring trade in them! The ground is very stony.
Secondly, the play area is on the other side of the road, a country lane of the sort where there may not be a passing car for half an hour at a time, but when it does come, it could be doing fifty. In practice this was not as bad as it sounds, there are ropes suspended from a big tree on the main site, and to be honest, the kids seemed to have more fun with them than the "Proper" play equipment anyway. Also across the road is an indoor pool, the changing area looked a bit grotty, but at least it had one! (some I've been to didn't!) The pool itself was just fine. Unsupervised though, so you mustn't go alone.
Food in the pub was nice, though not particularly cheap. It's wise to book a table. I can recommend the T-bone!
Toilets and showers were ok, clean and enough of them.
There are ducks wandering (or is that waddling?) freely around the site, but they're no problem. The potential problem as far as birds are concerned, is that there are several cockerals crowing nearby VERY early in the mornings.
I may well go back here at some point.

August 2004 Very nice small site. Showers etc were fine, and the owners very friendly and helpful. The Pub on site (just across a small road actually) was lovely -with play area outside & games room for kids. Beautiful area. Would recommend!
