First time been to this CL site and well impressed. Site really kept clean and tidy. You are allowed to find own pitch, we found a lovely spot which was a sun trap, so peaceful.

This site has a memorial to the dessert rats that trained here from 1938 to 1944, if you walk round the woods etc you can read all about them. There is some lovely woodland walks and while we were here we saw 3 munjac deers, so peaceful.

You have swaffham, thetford, brandon all within 7 to 10 miles each way. We went into brandon which had several shops plus aldi and a small tesco, they also have a factory warehouse shop, plus several other shops, cafes, etc.

We only went to brandon as rather relax in this lovely forest as we were lucky while we where there from Saturday to Monday the sun shon. The feel to being surrounded by this lovely forest made you feel like you was on a different planet, so nice.

The wardens are really friendly and helpful, they keep this CL site spotless. We didn't want to leave, but we will be back and next time for longer

Lovely back to basics campsite. My first stay at a caravan club site and they appear to be very well maintained. This site has very basic facilities - chemical disposal, taps and electricity. But what they do have is very nicely looked after.

The site is in a stunning setting right in the Thetford Forest. You are surrounded by nature and there are deer roaming free and loads of birds and interesting animal sounds throughout the night.

I was alone with two children and there didn't appear to be many others kids around - a bonus for some and a little more hard work for others who might value the distraction. Also a surprise considering it was the height of school holiday season, but I suppose many families would be put off by the lack of facilities etc.

Anyway, its a perfect site for getting away from it all and my kids loved making dens in amongst the trees. Also great if you like walking or cycling as there are many beautiful footpaths in and around the forest from right on your doorstep. Unfortunately, being alone with two young ones, I was unable to do either! But will def try to bring bikes next time I'm with my partner.

Nice staff in the main, my only complaint would be the unnecessary requirements for rule abiding - they seemed a little put out that I hadn't paid by the 1pm cut off for the next nights stay. I could understand this if very busy but they were barely half full and had very few bookings for the next day! They also won't let you have fires at all, or bbq's under a certain height/ground clearance. Small complaints really as in the main its a lovely stay and very relaxing and beautiful!

In conclusion, if you are looking for a beautiful woodland setting, being surrounded by nature, a quiet and laid back site, and to be away from the crowds (it was barely half full at the peak of August holiday season!) then this is the place.

We have been here several times as its close to home its a very well run site, the pitches are of good size and the site is very well looked after. Wardens are very helpful no toilet block they did try but warden said they could not get planning permission,

Its in the middle of thetford forest lovely walks from the site, there are boards as you walk around telling you about the Dessert Rats and about the 2nd world war.

Not far is Thetford, Swaffham or Mildenhall small market towns there is a Tesco and Sainsburys in Thetford not ideal for children.

We spent 4 nights and found the site to be a really nice place to be. On arrival the warden proved to be friendly and helpful. We were left to chose our own pitch so we had one in one of the small wooded glades, we were lucky not to have an immediate neighbour throughout our stay so had plenty of room and peace.

The warden was quick to offer help when my jockey wheel clamp failed and even took one off his own van to let me use. Thanks also to the other van owner who also came over to help

The site has no toilet block and therefore no tents but that was fine by us as we find sites like this tend to be a lot quieter and so this again proved to be the case. Very soon after 9pm the site suddenly gets very quiet and peaceful so we found it easy to sit and relax with a good book and a beer!

We liked the area very much and the walks or cycle around the woods were enjoyed by all, we would recommend a walk to the fenced off field in the woods, especially around dusk as you may be lucky to see the nightjars displaying their courtship dance.

One word of warning don't use this site if you enjoy a lay in every morning, the dawn chorus has to be heard to be believed!

All in all a great site, good for families and dogs etc, we will be returning soon.

We love love love this site. It is perfect for doglovers and families in that there is so much space and it offers total tranquillity. It was about full when we visited - there's a choice of hardstanding pitches as well as some lovely little grouped grass pitches in the trees. The site has no toilets etc, not a problem for most outfits these days and it's everything a basic site should offer. The wardens are totally dedicated and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble even though they were kept very busy. The dog walking is amazing, you can walk miles without seeing a soul (other than deer and the occasional adder basking in the summer!). Just watch out for ticks, get some Frontline on your dogs a few days before you get there as the forests are tick heaven!

We have been to The Covert many times and we'll be back again!

This is an excellent and interesting site which, in its past life, was a training area for tanks! Not many caravan sites are marked by a WW2 tank on a plinth at the front entrance!

So there is a bit of fun to be had in and around the site, with displays and restored huts nearby from the tank training days, and lots of trails through Thetford forest.

You will need to either take your campervan or to have a car handy if you want to move off the site, though. The nearby A1065 is dead straight outside the site and it offers about the only reasonable hope of overtaking between Mundford and Swaffham, it would be lethal to try cycling on it, there are no footpaths, and this is the only realistic way on and off the site. There is no accessible public transport. You could, I suppose, consider borrowing the tank but it would be hard to get it on and off the plinth.

In itself, the site is peaceful and secluded, well set amongst the trees, all pitches are hardstanding. Wardens could not be more helpful.

The only other problem is the Stanta army training ground just the other side of the A1065. Clearly the army have to train but readers need to be aware that this can involve some extremely loud bangs very early in the morning - we were woken one morning at 5am by five extremely loud bangs, and then an ongoing battle.

Verdict: excellent site but beware of access and unusually noisy neighbours!

Hard standings and two grass clearing areas for pitching, all with electric hook up. Although there are no facilities - you have not far to walk from anywhere to a water / waste / toilet waste point.

Pleasant and welcoming staff, reception only open 9-10am, then 12-5pm. You are told to find your pitch then let the wardens know where you are. We stayed on one of the grassy areas which are beautifully kept, squirrels and birds galore (including dawn chorus!). Fantastic walks around forest (saw muntjac, roe deer, rabbits, fox etc - great for nature lovers). You can walk through to Desert Rats memorial walk too which is a great bit of history of the area.

It was very dry and hot when we stayed - beware of sticky 'bits' falling from trees - caravan and car needed a good wash on arrival back home!

Also ticks are in forest - make sure your dog is up to date with treatments as they then die (the year before I found two on my dog - this year the same but had not attached themselves as had treated them the night before leaving!).

Mostly retirees on this site - a few take grandchildren, but mostly suits quiet, relaxing break. I took two ten year old girls for one night and both enjoyed the wildlife and the freedom of a safe environment. There is very little TV coverage here so entertainment is back to basics!

A tesco in Brandon about 5 mile away, we also ate good steak in a hungry horse pub in Thetford - 7 mile away.

Would definitely return - £10 per night is excellent value for money.

This was our second outing in our new motorhome, so still learning the ropes. The two ladies on Reception were very friendly and helpful and even lent us an OS map of Thetford to use.
The forest is great for walking dogs and the campsite also has a useful dog walking area too. Its first-come-first served on the pitches. There are some on grass and some on hardstanding and good motorhome facilities. Site shuts grassed pitches late autumn.
A good, honest site and very reasonable prices. We paid £12.00 per night all-in. There was a lot of gun-fire noise over the weekend but as we did not stay any longer cannot comment on whether this happened weekdays as well. Did not use the toilet facilities so cannot comment on them. The site has no other facilities so makes it a peaceful, mainly adult site.

A really beautiful setting for a nice large site, although hardstanding pitches were rather close in my opinion. No facilities at all on site which we knew in advance, but would benefit from a shop to obtain the essentials.
The forest is abundant with deer, wildlife and plenty of birds. Plenty of areas to explore whether walking or cycling, but keeping an eye out for dog mess is essential! Local villages and shops nearby, although main road was very busy. A nice peaceful site for getting away from it all.

We've just returned from a pleasant 6 day stay at the covert.

The site was spotlessly clean with plenty of conveniently placed water and waste points around the site which, as there are no toilet/shower facilities, meant that collection of water/disposal of waste was simple.

The location was great for walks as it is set within Thetford forest (our dog loved it). There are also plenty of other parts of the forest to visit within a very short car journey.

Thetford and Swaffham are within easy travelling distance and have a good range of shops from small local shops to the big supermarkets.

On the downside the site would have benefitted greatly from having a small shop (i.E. Milk and bread) but this was a minor consideration and as we were aware of this before our arrival we came prepared but my children do enjoy the responsibility of buying the milk for breakfast and it shouldn't be too hard to provide this facility.

The only other minor gripe I had was with regard to our initial 'welcome'. Arriving during our designated slot we were greeted with a closed site hut. Being a bit bewildered I failed to notice the sign on the door (a simple mistake to make) but when I caught the eye of the warden I was told in no uncertain terms to 'read the sign on the door then you'll know what to do'. I understand some of us caravanners can be a bit annoying but either make the sign bigger or expect to have lots more bewildered caravanners turning up during the lunch break!

Would we return? - definitely, despite my slight 'gripe' its a nice site in a nice area and the kids and dog loved it.
