What a fantastic site!
We have stayed here 3 times in as many months - initially to 'try out' our new motorhome for 2 nights, but as the children had such a great time I brought them back for longer stays – the last being half-term holiday.
The price per night is £20 per pitch including hook-up, which makes a refreshing change from the usual additions we come to expect.
The site has everything I need with 2 young children (ages 8 and 2). There are 3 touring pitches next to a fantastic play area (ideal for me to keep an eye on the children from the van) with the other pitches away from the play area - good for those who prefer not to be 'bothered' by youngsters!
Included in the price is the use of a very well equipped gym, jacuzzi and heated indoor pools – one being a toddler paddling pool which my 2 year old loved! Situated around the pool-side are tables and chairs allowing those who don’t need or wish to swim, the chance to relax.
Also available at the pool-side is the use of a sauna (for a small fee).
The changing rooms and pool area are recently decorated and kept immaculately clean.
The on-site shop supplies daily newspapers, magazines, children’s toys, milk, bread, cheese, bottled water, tinned and packet goods, sweets and a book-swap!
A beautician visits the site and going by her brochure, offers very reasonably-priced treatments (I’ve not yet had the chance to book!).
There is a laundry room – which I didn’t need to use – but looks good and in the same area, a washing up area which I was “well-impressed with”. Mainly because there are plate drainers and washing up liquid provided! Ok I’m easily pleased, but I have been to Caravan Club sites that don’t have this! Also in the laundry room I noticed an iron and ironing board; again I didn’t use it but what a luxury on a caravan site
In the same block are the showers and loos. 3 showers with the most enormous cubicles; they cost 20p for 4 minutes of steaming hot water so it was a bargain for 3 of us in 1 shower! Again, loos and showers are kept nice and clean.
On 2 occasions when we stayed, the site had “fun weekends” when the managers supplied a huge bouncy castle and face painting free of charge. Also on site, was a hot-food vendor and an ice-cream/sweet vendor, both providing reasonably priced and tasty goodies.
The children rode their bikes/scooters around the site with no problem. Most people adhere to the low speed limit and the lovely thing was – the children who visit the static vans regularly seemed to look out for each other - and my children
If you want adventure off the site: turn left out of the site entrance and after a 2 minute walk you are on to the beach; initially pebbles but then if the tide is low, a wonderful stretch of sand. We enjoyed a BBQ on the beach – small disposable- perfect on the pebbles.
If you prefer uphill then you are virtually at the foot of Blackcombe; head to Whicham Church and start the ascent. On a clear day during the climb, you might be lucky enough to see the Isle of Man, Blackpool Tower, the tip of Wales and nearer the summit, Scotland!
Back to the site – I highly recommend a holiday here…. You’re on the doorstep of the Lake District – without the hassle

We stopped here for a couple of nights on our way back home from Scotland.
We found this site from a magazine and phoned it up. They do take tents now (as we stopped in one. )
The toilets were basic but modern and clean.
The showers were 20p and had a good water pressure and nice temperature. Cubicle was nice and roomy. 3 of them too.
The laundry was good 2 washers and a drier. And although the drier was temperamental to get going it did the job and dried our clothes.
The hot water was a little slow at coming forward to wash the pots, so eldest did them in cold water!
The people in the tourers were really friendly and everybody who walked past greeted us with a smile.
Didn't do any shopping whilst here but found nice pub for a steak in next hamlet and a cafe for breakfast in next town. It is walking distance to the beach which is stoney followed by a good bank of nice clean sand. It is very quite and perfect for us. It was very windy and we were able to fly our kites on the beach. Eldest and hubby don't like sandy beaches but enjoy stoney ones, the younger 2 enjoy the sand so this was perfect for all of us.
It isn't far from the foot of the mountains either and has some great views.
There was pony trekking with walks along the beach, which looked interesting. A couple of small museums are in the nearby villages which we didn't go to but wouldn't mind having a nosy at. There is also a steam railway not too far (by car) that takes you up the highest mountain in the area (in england too I think) which I'd like to try out.
It was £17. 50 per night regardless of how many and type of unit you had and this included the EHU the use of the pool and gym, however the pool was out of use (H&S reasons)and we didn't get chance to use the gym.
The wardens were nice and friendly and phoned back when we phoning round for somewhere to stay.
There didn't appear to be a playground at the site, but the beach wasn't far and there are some real nice playgrounds in the nearby villages.
This is a place where we would like to come back to.

We came to stay here for 4 nights as we had heard so much about the site and have friends with static caravans here.
Lovely site in a picturesque location, beach gorgeous and famed for precious stones (of which we collected many). Sadly we only had one nice day weatherwise but that was enough to give us a good indication of what it could be like in the summer.
We had a pitch close to the shower blocks and toilets, which also seemed to be the only place for the kids to play. Seemingly there was a play area on the site last year but the owners have decided there is more money in putting 8 static vans on it instead. Can't argue with the business logic can you?. So camping in the middle of the 'kids play area' wasn't a problem as we had 3 kids ourselves and after the first day it rained constantly so the kids stayed in out of the rain. Had it been fine and dry we may have got a bit annoyed with other kids riding their bikes very close to the van and car. (we actually moved the car closer to the van to stop them from riding in between and they had only been 3 foot apart)
Some of the 'resident' kids (who obviously had statics or permanent pitches) were distinctly unfriendly towards my kids, one tried to push my son off his bike. My kids then refused to leave the van without us and didn't want to try and make friends any more.
The owner was very friendly and we were given a good welcome as well as information about the surrounding area and things to do locally.
Negatives: There was a small shop in reception which sold mainly sweets and a few tins but nothing fresh so no milk, bread and no newspapers. There is nowhere in Silecroft to buy these so a trip to Tesco's at nearby Millom was the order of the day.
The toilets and wash up areas had no hot water at all. When I queried this the owner said that the hot water was on a timer and I must have been unlucky and it all have been used by someone leaving a tap on. I gave him the benefit of the doubt however I did try again every day and never had any hot water. Luckily I didn't need it as we were in the caravan.
The showers were ok, nothing to write home about - 20p for 4 minutes which I felt a little peeved about paying when I was already paying £20 per night for a site with basically no facilities. Yes, there is a small swimming pool - however it was very very cold, only open between 9am and 11am (and this was during school holidays) and the chemicals were so harsh that every child in there was coughing like mad and a few (the asthmatic ones) left in tears today, unable to breath properly. We did raise the issue with the guy on reception who said he would switch the jacuzzi off and check the levels. Switching the jacuzzi off certainly helped but my eyes were still streaming and I was only sat by the side of the pool supervising the kids. I made them get out fairly shortly after.
Overall - I enjoyed our break away. Expensive for what it is and cliquey. I would go back as we have friends there and I would love to see what the beach is like in the summer but otherwise I think there are nicer sites for tourers and better value sites elsewhere.

Still seem to be taking caravans and motorhomes. A small number of level hardstandings and also pitches on grass. Nice open site with views to Black Combe and only a couple of hundred yards from the sea. Pebble and shingle beach at high tide but sandy once the tide goes out. Toilets and showers a bit dated but plenty of powerful hot water in the showers.

We stayed here last Easter and really enjoyed it. The pitch we had was on a wee hill and was grass and got a bit muddy but after having problems pitching we thought the site was lovely, sea and mountain views! Lovely beach close by, indoor pool and amenities close by, we would definitely return and only 40 minutes away from us! Brilliant!

This site no longer accepts tourers, tents or Motorhomes. It is a static only site.
I used to live near here, and had intended to visit later this year as I know the site has developed enormously since I left the region some 25 years ago.
A huge loss!

Superb campsite. Quiet location but all amenities close by. Village shop / post office, pub / restaurant. Plenty of toilets and lovely hot showers (although perhaps sometimes a little temperamental). Located within a couple of hundred metres of the beach. Perfect for those early morning walks.
Couldn't ask for a better campsite. Clean, tidy, respectable, friendly, fabulous location.

Clean, tidy and well looked after site. Pitches very flat could be a little rocky in places. Reasonable rates charged. We had excellent weather they have a beach within walking distance 3 mins! It was mainly pebbles but when the tide was out plenty room for cricket and football. There is a lovely sandy beach 2 miles away and for your supplies Millom is 3 miles away. Our group was of mixed ages and we all really enjoyed this site the ducks and rabbits are so cute! We will definitely be returning next year.

August 2005 Excellent, well looked after site. Very clean and spacious, toilets and showers immaculate.
Indoor swimming pool was £1.50 per adult and £1 per child which bought a day pass allowing you go in, in the morning and again in afternoon if you wanted to.
Couple of minutes walk from the beach (pebbles at high tide).
One thing with this site though is does seem to get quite windy but I suppose you should expect that being so close to the coast.
Pitches were a good size, nice clean grass and excellent drainage.
Get some good rock pegs too as the ground was quite hard underneath.
We will be definatly paying another visit to Silecroft.
