Stayed at Walney Island last year and the year before with family and friends as a friend owns a mobile home on the site. Had a great time.

Great facilities, pool fabulous, bar very pleasant, staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Great laundry facilities. Had a sauna on site, play area and games room. Wonderful views over Piel Island.

Had a lovely time and would recommend to anyone who wishes to holiday with a family. Went to the Lakes which wasn't far away, ideal place to base for touring the area.

Only a few minutes from Barrow but you would not think it. Very peaceful site and everyone very friendly and welcoming.

Loved it so much I am going again at the end of August this year as I didn't get chance to go to Piel Island or the zoo, both on the agenda this year.

We stayed here over the Jubilee week, site was very busy for the whole week. Staff friendly and always seemed cheerful. Toilets showers and pool areas always very clean, but pool is small and can get very crowded. Site in general was very tidy and presentable, our son loved the outdoor play area and when we were on site spent most of his time there.

The site is a little remote, meaning quite a drive to visit surrounding attractions, but if you are happy to spend your holiday on site then no problem.

The pitches all have electric hookup (with good supply, no tripping out even with heating tv and electric kettle on) along with a water tap and grey water drain. But they are on the small side meaning cars are parked across the front of caravans. Children speed round the site on bikes sometimes getting very close to the cars.

But the biggest put off for us was the noise made by people returning from the club at night, twice we were woken, once at almost 2am and the second time at around midnight. I know it was the Jubilee week but I don't think it is too much to expect people to respect those who are sleeping, I like to be up by 6am but I don't go out waking those who sleep till 9am.

All in all a nice site, but not one we will return to due to the pitch sizes and the noise.

We have stayed here many times as its a friendly, clean site, But our main reason to go again was due to the new splash pool been advertised, and having a 2yr old its brilliant. Kids loved it. The food is gorgeous, served hot and toilet and shower facilities are great with Hot water, the nearest shop is a fair bit away, but they do sell the basics on site. The staff are really helpful and cheery which makes a difference to your break. Lots to keep the kids entertained including a large clean play area :-)Nothing at all to moan or complain about. Would certainly return ! xxx

This is more of a 'holiday park' type of site, with many facilities on-site. As others have mentioned, it has a swimming pool and a large bar/restaurant area that appears to be used for entertainment/bingo etc.

We stayed on a Monday night which made it all look a little quiet, not that we'd use many of these facilities ourselves. I'd imagine it would be more active at weekends.

It's a tidy and well kept site throughout.

The site is located towards the south end of Walney Island, which is pretty remote, but allows for some relaxing walks on roads and lanes with very little traffic. It's quite a distance from Barrow, so you'll hardly be walking into town :-), but with all the facilities they have on-site, you'd hardly need to.

There's a nature reserve within walking distance if you want to spend some time investigating, and from most of the site you can watch the shipping going in and out of the port.

A very relaxed location out of the way of the busy Lake District, but within reach of it if you want to investigate it on a day trip.

Would agree with most of the others here that this is a great little site with good amenities, having a small water tank the tap on the pitch was a real added bonus.

I felt that the pitches were actually a little on the small side, by the time you have your 'van on site and your awning, it left very little room for the car and it felt a little squashed.

From the touring section the facilities are on your doorstep and it's only a five minute walk to the beach.

The pool was very clean (and free!) which is a bonus for wet days, and there are bar meals available on site, but be warned, they can take a very long time! We were a party of 10 admittedly, but the time difference between the first and last meal being served was 40 minutes!

Walney itself has fantastic beaches. You could be better off popping into the car and going up to Sandy Gap or Earnsee Bay towards the north of Walney as they have better and bigger beaches, that said, the south end of the island tends to be quieter, although, you can't exactly moan about Walney's beaches being overcrowded.

The Round House at Sandy Gap is a lovely Chinese with great views over the sea, and Andy's Chippy on Hastings Street is very good and also serves Chinese. You can't beat their meat and potato pies, they're the same ones as featured on the Hairy Bikers!

In good weather, Walney is brilliant, and the site is too, if it's a little cooler then you will need a car. Have to say I'd be reluctant to stay here without one as you really are at the wild end of the island. All in all a great site.

What a brilliant site, well spaced, tidy, clean and very helpful, friendly staff. Lovely walks from the site, ideal for dogs, who are well catered for with a large space for them to run and then a gate onto a walk alongside of the marshes. So peaceful, feels like you are miles from anywhere.
We had rather a bad storm whilst we were there, and the only bad point although not only relative to this site, it occurs on many sites now. The 'scurge' of the 'seasonal touring vans' left on site all year, who cram 'everything' underneath and around their vans.BBQ's, awnings, bikes, windbreaks, push chairs, tables, chairs, plant pots even a 'garden shed'! You name it, its crammed underneath or around the van, and it looks awful. Very dangerous in this storm as several loose items, took flight and sailed passed our motorhome, fortunately not damaging us or the vehicle.
There are a lot of seasonal vans here who also have the best pitches, nevertheless still a nice site, with club, and pool in the season. Facilities clean and modern. Good play areas for children too.

Just had three nights at this site, great site, staff friendly and helpful. It is a bit remote but it has got all you need on site at very reasonable prices.
Toilets and showers were very clean. The swimming pool looked very inviting but didn't take costume with us.Barrow in Furness is a short drive away with supermarkets and petrol stations, pubs / resturants and much more.
The zoo in Dalton is a very good day out and the lakes within an easy drive as well. Will be returning soon.

I read all the reviews from this site and booked because of them. I agree with them all; this site is fantastic.

The location and surrounding area of the site is beautiful and a real pleasure to see after the built up area of Barrow town centre which you drive through to get to the site. You’d think you were miles from anywhere once you arrive at the site.

All pitches are serviced ones (individual, water, electric and drainage) at no extra cost which is fantastic as serviced pitches on other sites are expensive and this is if you can manage to book one!

This site has to be one of the best for facilities; it’s the only one we’ve been too that offers a full range of recycling facilities and actively encourages it. The site is spotless and there is always someone around cleaning, picking up rubbish or tidying the play area.

The children’s play area was amazing and offers something for younger children to older children. There is a bowling green, tennis courts and football pitches. Bowls and tennis rackets can be hired from the bar area.

The swimming pool is great and has a smaller heated pool for the little ones who can’t swim and Adults only swim early in the morning before the children come in for their fun and is open until 6pm and is free or part of the site fees however you look at it.

There isn’t a shop but they do have the basics on sale which you can buy from the bar area.

The children’s games room and tuck shop is great as there is some where for them to go on wet/cold days. Cue’s for the pool and snooker table can be hired for 50p from behind the bar. There are a number of shops and super markets in Barrow which is only about a 15 minute car journey from the site.

The toilet and shower facilities are immaculate, I was a bit concerned at first as there are only 2 showers in the ladies but it wasn’t busy at all in the shower block and we never had to wait once. My husband said there are 4 showers in the male shower block!

There are a number of washing machines and dryers which is handy for drying towels especially if you swim everyday like we did! And a utility room with 3 large sinks for dish washing too.

The reception area has a detailed notice board with the events for each day/night so keep your eyes on that as they add things. I recommend the walk to Piel Island at low tide; you go with a guide and are given a booklet with information about the island. Make sure you wear your wellies and nothing white as it gets very messy. There is a bar on the island which sells hot and cold drinks and food as well as a good pint!

There are a number of animals on the island which kept our children entertained for hours. The walk took about 11/2 hour each way and is a 4 mile round trip but well worth it, it’s free too.

The best place we visited was Ulverston it was beautiful and quite a lot to see and do in such a small town, especially on market day and you can’t visit here without going to the Laurel and Hardy museum it was very interesting, the children loved it.

The road next to the site is a coastal walk leading to a pebbled beach you have to walk through a field of cows so be prepared for that if you have small children they may not like it!

This site is a static site which offers pitches for touring vans and many tourers have become static which is a sign of a good site. This is a very relaxed and friendly site which is ideal for families, extremely clean and well maintained and an ideal base from which to visit the beautiful Lake District.

We stayed for a week in Aug and the only down side which is nothing to do with the site was the weather, I think the location will always be slightly bleak even during good weather, surrounded by water on an island slightly elevated means strong winds and rain from all directions so the awning does need to be secure and the ground is very hard so we recommend you have storm/hard ground pegs.

We visited this site as it was convenient for Barrow in Furness (and Walney!) A little more commercial than we usually choose with a clubhouse etc. Pros were: very friendly and helpful staff, lovely free swimming pool which my kids loved, fabulous play area and fantastic views. However, although toilet and shower facilities were quite good, they were part of the clubhouse so at night, particularly on Friday and Saturday night if you went to use them they were crowded with people using the club, dressed up, applying makeup, chatting etc and weren't as clean as at other times. Not good when you're in your pjs and going in there to brush yr teeth! My teenagers didn't like this aspect of the site at all. Also thought the touring units were a bit packed in in places, but don't let this put you off as they weren't that bad, we are just used to more space! The other drawback the the site is its location, a bit far out, although I knew this when we booked and in return you do get fabulous views and surroundings. Taxis are pretty cheap though, cost us around £7 for a 15-20 minute taxi ride. Also, be warned and pack your storm straps as it can be very windy, but again Walney island does tend to be windy and we knew this and it's obviously beyond the control of the campsite! Would we go back? Yes, I think so as it's the only site near to Barrow really and all in all was a pretty good site for us.

We stayed the last weekend of the Easter holidays (sat, sun) and it was fab, highly recommended. Hook up and water on each pitch. Loads to do for the kids, in fact they were in the process of re-woodchipping the playground when we left. It's not too close to the touring pitches, so no noise, but close enough for you to see them still. Lovely tidy site.
Well maintained. Very friendly and helpful staff. Toilets / showers were clean and tidy (although we didn't use the showers) lovely club house with a room for the kids, with pool tables, videos etc and a small tuck shop, and rooms for the adults only. Full size snooker table too in the adults only bar, if you like that sort of thing.
Well maintained pool which is overlooked by a conservatory type area within the club house. (and I think the pool is free? but we didn't use it this time) fabulous for walks / cycling. Very near to the nature reserve.
Down side. Because the site is at the end of the island it's pretty remote for shops etc and a good 3 to 4 mile walk to the nearest pub / shop, which can be a down side of taking a motorhome. You could buy stuff from the bar but there was only a list of stuff, so they could maybe do with a small shop? maybe they do when it's a bit more into the season? if you're in a car then your fine.
It's only a short drive to Barrow where there are loads of shops inc supermarkets, fast food and retail parks. There's also a fab chinese restaurant right on the side of the sea which has fabulous views of the sunset! will definitely be going again.
