This is an excellent site. Very convenient for the M6 but far enough away that you can't see or hear it. In touching distance of the lake district. Some great walks from the site including the Lancaster Canal into Carnforth.
The toilets and showers are immaculate. Nice adventure play area for young children.
Pitches are all hardstanding with electric, water, TV & drainage. One criticism is that they are probably just a bit close together - particularly as there's no screening or planting between the pitches. Most of the pitches are seasonal and although occupied, very few people were actually there.

My visit to this site prompted me to join the club.
It is a very nice site with superb facilities, the toilets and showers opened by key codes that sometimes took 4 or 5 times to activate was a nuisance but you couldn’t wish for better when accessed.
What really was out of order was offering us a pitch on their new development for statics, expecting us to do a trip with our waste to dispose of it that was a quarter of a mile to it, yep, half a mile trip to use the great facilities and the new development was work in progress, a building site with work starting just after 8am.

This was our first ever visit to any site with a touring caravan.
We found Everyone to be extremely helpful from assisting us to park the caravan to setting it up correctly.
The site itself was very quiet and relaxing. It's set in beautiful wooded surroundings with a very enjoyable walk.
The facilities were extremely good and immaculately clean. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
It is within easy walking distance of the canal leading to Carnforth and the Marina. We would definitely go back.

A lovely gem of a site, all facilities modern and clean. Water tap and TV point with cable supplied at all pitches.
As mentioned by other reviewers the majority of pitches have now been handed over for seasonal vans but we didn't feel like we were intruding just it was a shame that more tourers couldn't use this lovely site.
There is a great wooden, obstacle style, playpark which our wee man loved but unfortunately it is tucked up at the top of the site and, with no other children to buddy up with, and the fact that he couldn't see us at the 'van, meant we had to keep him company to play.
Overall a great site and wouldn't hesitate to use again.

We stayed at the Old Hall for 2 nights. My husband goes scuba diving at the quarry near by, so the location was spot on.
We have a motorhome and 2 small dogs, so required hard standing with electric hook-up. The pitches were large and had water and TV ariel in with the price (£20) and no charge for the dogs. There was a children's play area at the edge of the site, and the toilet block was very clean and spacious.
There is also a brilliant dog walk and a small nature walk through the woods that separates the static pitches with the tourers, and a river running through.
On the down side, there isn't a shop on site, but down the drive and a 2 minute walk away, down the lane for Old Hall Farm, at the side of a very pretty canal path, there is another campsite. There you will find a shop and a bar with food.
Back in the village, there is a post office/shop and a pub that also serves food.
A great little site that we will be pleased to use again.

Just got back and felt compelled to write as we have had a wonderful time. A lot of the other comments above are true as there are a lot of seasonal held pitches but everyone who we met was helpful and friendly. We have two children aged 7 and 4 and felt happy to let them go to the play area by themselves as it was safe and mainly car free.
The toilet block was clean and the showers hot. The walk through the woods was fantastic and the children loved it when they saw a Roe deer.
A fab site which we will return to very good. We went to Lakeside for a trip on the train. We then went across the lake to Fell Foot which only cost £1. 50. The National Trust have spent a shed load of money on the park there and it made for a relaxing change from the hurly burly of Ambleside.

Great site right near Capernwray for divers. Toilets/showers were spotless. However as we were the only ones who appeared to be touring (many pitches looked permanent) we felt like we were intruding upon their site.
Nice dog walk although not clearly indicated.Ok as a base for a one off. No shop on site for essentials and nearest one not in walking
Distance.
Our only complaint was that the toilets were not regularly monitored.

Site looks idyllic and toilets/showers were spotless. However as we were the only ones who appeared to be touring (many pitches looked permanent) we felt like we were intruding upon their site.
The play area was good but again my children felt like they didn't belong there so spent most of their time in the van. Also if you have an awning take huge pegs as the gravel is about six inches+ deep (the only other tourer who turned up for one night was actually sited on tarmac next to the toilets.
The chemical toilet disposal fell a little short as it was just a toilet to pour down with no hand washing facility. Ok as a base for a one off. No shop on site for essentials and nearest one not in walking distance.

We stayed at Old Hall as it opened for the season in March. We were lucky to have some excellent weather - which always helps!
The site was pristine. The toilet blocks were immaculate with everything you needed, including laundry facilities.
The children's play area is a mini-assault course - perfect for our 4 and 6 year olds. There is also plenty of exploring space in the woods and grass space for playing.
The access is easy from the M6, but is not noisy at all as the site is in a little valley.
It looks like a lot of caravanners book a seasonal pitch here. It was really quiet during our stay, but there were relatively few free pitches.
We would like to return, maybe towards the end of the summer for another chilled-out weekend.Or two.

We visited this site in June 2009 as a last minute booking. The pitches were a little close together and it seemed as if the majority were held by seasonal tourers. The site was immaculate and the shower block was pristine. It has its own woodland walk which is fab and it is close to the canal. The site was very quiet and if you want to relax, ideal. Would go back. Very nice site.
