Just visited this site for a long weekend.
Pros - very pretty & tranquil site
- nice shower/toilet block
Cons - there was apparently a dog walk but no signage whatsoever & we never found it in 2 days
- as a result of the above, on a morning I walked my dogs around the site (with poo bags) & was spoken to by the old lady owner who essentially ordered me to take my dogs off the site immediately
The way I was spoken to by the owner means I will not be returning which is a shame as it is a lovely site & with a little bit of signage re the dog walk or a dog walk actually on the site it would be ideal.

Just back from our first weekend away at gelderwood. From the main road to the site the road is very tight, and narrow.
Our first impression was ok, we had to go the the house to tell the owners we were there, he took us to the hut to pay. We paid £18.00 per night and £5.00 for the key to the toilet and main gate.
Other half had a shower he said the water took a while to get through the system. The shower room quite small and you did need to get undressed before you put the shower on as you would get wet. Your clothes need to be as far away from the shower otherwise all your clothes got wet.
There was two radiators in the toilets only one worked and the other one was luke warm and did not stay on for long. The hand drier again did not stay on so i used toilet tissue to dry my hands.
The toilets and showers were clean i must say.
The dog walk was a bit confusing we asked the owners and was told to look behind the toilet block on the main road we eventually found it after we had exercised the dog elsewhere.
Very quiet site, overpriced for us, nearest pub a mile and a half away, farm shop around a mile and a half away.
On looking on the web site we seem to have been overcharged, the price on the web says £16 plus a £1.00 for the dog.
Members can make there own mind up whether this site is for them we are not sure if we will return.

Just been to Gelderwood Country park for a (Too short) weekend away, as a newbie caravanner I was a bit worried about the narrow lane leading up to the site but to be honest it really wasn't so bad, I would say that an opposing car can pass you fairly easy so nothing really to worry about.
There's a narrow bridge at the bottom of the hill but unless you're pulling a really big van it shouldn't be a problem, certainly wasn't for me.
We were really pleased with everything about the site, particularly it's close proximity to Manchester / Bury as we were visiting our Daughter who's at Manchester Uni.
It's only a couple / few miles from Heywood / Rochdale / Bury but you really feel like you're right in the middle of deep countryside, apart from the odd car on the small lane you can't hear any traffic noise at all.
The price was pretty reasonable at £16 for a good sized pitch with EHU, the shower block had 3 toilets and 2 (free) showers with nice hot adjustable water.
As it was quite late in the season it was very quiet with few other happy campers there, but I would imagine that even when full it wouldn't be very noisy / busy especially as it's an adult only site.
There has been some mention on other reviews about a low level security bar on the entrance gateway, to be honest once we had got the van inside the site the security bar made us feel very safe in the knowledge that nobody could try and haul our van away whilst we were away for the day, as for not seeing it when you've got your van connected up to the towcar then really if somebody couldn't see that then I think they should seriously consider whether they should be taking to the road with such a big outfit!
Before booking for Gelderwood we also thought about booking another nearby site on the edge of a lake at the other side of Rochdale, we had a trip out to the lake and had a look at the other site and to be honest we were really glad we had chosen Gelderwood, the Lake caravan site looked extremely tired and had a lot of old very tired looking ex touring caravans parked up there. I think for all future trips to the Manchester area it will definitely have to be Gelderwood!
All in all a lovely site, great location, great owners, good facilities, good price!

What a lovely peaceful, tranquil place it is! It is well laid out with lovely flower borders and lawns which are very well maintained. The shower and toilet block are spotless and looked very new.
Only a short drive to the nearest pub! and lovely walks in the area. With shops and supermarkets within a short distance. Beautiful place and will definitely be returning soon.

Just returned from a 2 day break there, so peaceful and what a little gem. Coming up from that awful road, only to find a beautiful little caravan park.
The owners were than helpful, when trying to level the van up.We went to family in Rochdale and they came back with us for a few hours, they too were very impressed, lived there all there lives and never knew it was there. Every thing was spotless. Will go back again.
The only down side was the road, but wont let it put us off.

Just had another wonderful weekend at gelderwood, it is just getting better and better. All the flowers are out, the toilet block is brand new very clean all the time
The chadwick family are very helpful, they stop and have a chat when ever they can, nothing is too much trouble and we will be back in a couple of weeks
The road to the park has just been resurfaced so there is no problems there. Only being 9 miles from Manchester and 2 miles from Bury the site is in a great location to visit the surrounding area,
There is always something new been done to the park, from new gardens, to tree planting, wonderful site.

We just returned from a 3 day stay at this camp site. The site is excellent spotless clean and very quiet. The site owners made us very welcome.
The road leading to the site is very narrow and steep with very few passing points, a big problem if another caravan is coming in the opposite direction. The road surface is a disgrace, full of deep ruts and sunken grids. I know this is not the fault of the site owners. For this reason only we will not be using this site again.

The site is quite easy to find, however on the approach there is a narrow crooked bridge which needs some care when towing a large combination. As stated in previous reviews, the entrance is not well signed, however I was ready for this and drove slowly so I didn't miss it.
The short distance between road and gate meant that on arrival, my van was sticking out into the lane and obstructing traffic. The owners of the site were soon on hand to raise the security barrier and let us in.
On first viewing of the site, we were a little disappointed as there were several caravans that looked a little run down.It would appear to be a popular seasonal site.
None the less we were given a warm welcome and allowed to choose our pitch, which we did in the section near the house and reception which was far more attractive.
Having a large unit and estate car, reversing into the pitch would have been very difficult owing to the narrow perimeter roads and various obstructions. The mover came in very handy. I did see the owners helping the couple on the next pitch leave as they had to man handle the van out for the same reason already stated.
The pitches were of (cinder construction) hard standing. There was some levelling required both side to side and end to end.
The toilet blocks were immaculate at all times with ample facilities for the guests.Waste and other issues were again well looked after.
The grounds were tidy with flowers beds and young trees planted at various locations. The site is well sheltered from the wind.
The best part of our stay was the absolute peace and quiet at all times. The road outside is little used, so traffic noise is kept to a minimum.
The owners were very friendly and stopped for a chat whenever they could.
Nearby local towns provide all the necessary shopping facilities and the site is right on the edge of the moors. The area is well served by main roads, so going further afield is easy.
Overall a nice site and if was visiting the area again I would use this site.

We have just returned from a very relaxing 2 night stay here. The site is a pleasant place and very quiet with some nice walks for the dogs. The toilet/shower and washing up facilities were very clean and showers were very warm even at 9.30 in the evening. The only downsides were overshooting the entrance as the sign is not very visible from the road and on the phone we were quoted £16 per night that was after I told them we had an awning and 2 dogs but upon arrival it was £20, they did not tell us the £16 was only hook up and awning and dogs were extra, which we understand but when you are quoted a price that is the price you think you are paying. Overall a very nice park.

Just spent the week at gelderwood, great location 9 miles from Manchester 2 miles from bury. They have just refurbished their toilet block and it is fantastic. The park itself is lovely, it is well set out with beautiful maintained gardens. They have an over head barrier for security which is grea. They were friendly and helpful we had a lovely week in beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet. We will be going back soon.
