Site is in need of refurbishment - showers were frequently too hot and toilet block was generally run down. Washing machine was faulty which was a problem for us as the weather was appalling and our clothing / dog towels needed frequent laundering.
Field allocated for campers in tents tends to be waterlogged and suffers from rising mud. Due to location, great for visitors to Alton Towers but for the same reason groups of young people tend to camp there and we had a few pretty sleepless nights due to noise from these other parties.
Well located for visiting surrounding area but the site is based on the A52 which did mean that there was significant traffic noise from fairly early in the morning.
On a positive note, the electric hookup was great and we were able to run a number of electrical items including toaster, kettle and heater simultaneously without trip out.
Relaxed site, friendly staff but we did not always receive the service expected. Public house on site advertised food on its website but this was not available at the time we stayed there.
Friendly ducks and hens visited the tent frequently which was very pleasant.

We picked this site on route to a wedding to stopover. The pubs own website reads very well.
However it was possibly one of the worst sites we've stayed on but obviously things had changed!
A very unenthusiastic new owner or manager informed us that it was £25 for our bessacarr, looking at the tariff it was £30 for a room. A tad expensive considering the state of the place.
He explained that the previous owners had just got up and left!
There was no food on, not even a sandwich offered.
There was rubbish dumped on the next pitch, which he did come and clear. The grass was very long and un kept looking. A caravan on a seasonal pitch had its door swinging open as if it had been broken into. Who knows?
A shame as it looked as though it had been a nice place.

I stayed here twice in May, once with friends and once with children. The new owner was very helpful on arrival and even let us store our food in the pub fridge. The pub did not serve food at that point but there are plenty of other pubs close to site. They had karaoke on the Saturday night so it can get a bit noisy on the way back to the tents but what do you expect on a pub campsite? Overall the site is very close to Alton Towers and the staff were friendly (they even gave my child some eggs off the hens on site for his breakfast) We will be visiting the site again. I think some of the other reviews are unfair.

Well situated for Alton Towers. Basic facilities with only one shower, but clean. However, soap and toilet roll ran out quickly so bring your own!
The pub food was very good and karaoke was entertaining.
The field is small and some areas are not flat, and it got muddy quickly.
Us and other campers were woken up at 2 in the morning by a loud group of young people who kept us awake with very bright lights and noise for a few hours which was annoying.
Also note that you can't drive onto the field, so you have to carry everything from the pub car park onto the field.
Reasonable value at £15 per tent per night.

A couple of weekends back, myself and three others stayed over night on a Saturday following a day at Alton Towers. We were greeted in a polite manner and service with a smile. On showing us to where we could pitch our tent. We were made aware that we had chosen a night that Karaoke/disco was the nights entertainment. A fun and entertaining night ensued with other guests and locals. And the drinks where quite reasonably priced as well. The next day we finished off our stay with a carvery for lunch. Perfect!

We have been caravanning for years and have been to many sites. They charge £20 per night, which I feel is over priced for the condition of site. Very tight access, especially for us as we had a twin axle, we could not even put it on to the pitch, far too tight. We could not have put our awning up as there was not enough room. The overall condition of the site is poor and needs work doing on it

Stayed here for 2 nights while at Alton Towers over the weekend 11th and 12th of September, Found the site very nice and the staff very friendly.
The site itself is relativly small with an area for tents to the right of the pub next to the road. Showers and washing up facilities we adiquite. £15 per night for the tent.
Negatives.
Quite close to road and a few trucks due to near by quarry. Cant adjust temp on showers. Only one shower and toilet but small site so ok. Maybe an issue if site is busy.
Positives.
Staff really nice, we forgot a tin opener and they gladdy opened them for us. They allowed us to have a bbq so we could cook and stay warm. Showers and toilets were clean and tidy. Also had disabled facilities
We will use you again.

Stayed 3 nights over the August Bank Holiday. The weather wasn't particularly wet but the right hand side of the field, which is the flattest, floods easily and got very muddy very quickly. Cars got stuck as well so beware. The toilets were not cleaned throughout our stay, and all 3 toilets including the disabled facility ran out of paper.
The pub was brilliant, with 3 cask ales (Pedigree, Bombardier and London Pride) on and we ate in there 2 nights. The menu is a cut above the norm and the quality very good for a decent price.
We understood the site has newish owners and if they spend a bit more time and effort on the camping side they could be sitting on a gold mine.
There is a shop nearby by the way, turn left out of the site then left again past the quarry and cement works (scenic route!) and right at the main junction next to the Old Crown Inn.
The site is also very handy for cycle hire on the Manifold track.

Poor poor poor. Stayed here for 2 nights, the grass was ok but that was about it. The road is slightly higher than the field and the lorries are constant from 6am felt like we were going to be run over each time one passed - not my idea of camping at all.
The loos/showers were heated and free but after paying £15 a night for the tent should be. Site very run down and the owners were just leaving in the next day or two.
Pub down the road Yew Tree was superb and worth a visit. Location great other than the busy road.

Just returned from a one night stay at this lovely campsite. Very basic but just what we wanted. The food in the pub is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend it! The weather was awful and the ground really did suffer as a result; however this did not ruin our stay. There was also a lovely little duck pond and it was really nice to feed them this morning (and they were very grateful- every time you walked past, they followed you). If you want a basic site with a nice pub with gorgeous food, go here!
