Ideally placed for our trip to Alton Towers, only 10 minutes away. Owners very pleasant and welcoming. Small tent field, flat, no electric but very adequate. Toilet block clean and warm but probably needs updating. Food in the pub was fantastic and very good value for money.4 meals plus drinks for £50! Down side was the main road with the quarry lorries running early although we did manage to ignore them and have a lie in! Would definitely stay again very reasonable fee, excellent value for money.

My partner and I stayed here for a night before going to Alton Towers and I must say I am shocked to see the negative reviews dated 2008. The current owners were not there then from what I can gather from the conversations we had with them.
I the general feel of the the place very cosy and welcoming, with a quaint outside seating area, not newly made or anything but it had character!. In the centre there is a huge pond with Ducks and Geese on which adds to the character of the place. The staff and landlady we're very friendly and helpful and the food was AMAZING. Great quality food and huge portions.
The toilets and showers were very clean and warm!
As we stayed in our van I can't speak for the accommodation but whilst we were there a couple popped in to put down a deposit for Aug bank hol and they had been before and loved it.
We will definitely return for more than one night on our next trip to Alton Towers so we can explore the area x

Ideally placed for Alton towers. A nice little campsite, with a pub. The owners are friendly, the toilets could do with updating but are kept really clean.
No shop local so make sure you take every thing you need. Each pitch has is own water Tap and are hard standing. Would use this site again if we were going to Alton towers, it's also worth going in to Stoke on Trent to water world, absolutely brill for the kids.

Have been coming to this campsite for almost 10 years but it has changed owners too many times and seems to go downhill even more with each change over. The last trip (Sept 2008) will be our last to this campsite. The shower/toilet block was dirty and mouldy and I don't think it was cleaned at all during our 3 night stay. We didn't feel welcomed when entering the pub, service was slow and the food was awful (although cheap > 2 meals for £10.
The field is next to a main road for the local quarry so be prepared for quarry lorries waking you up at 6am.

Stayed here for three nights. We have been coming to this campsite for four years now, because of its closeness to Alton Towers and the good food served in the pub.
However, this year the place has got new owners and we were disappointed to find the menu and food were not as good as they used to be. They do however have a range of meals on a 2 for £10 deal so its quite cheap.
The site itself is quite small, and its hard to find a flat pitch, although in September there are not many people there so you get your pick of the field.
The showers and toilets looked a bit mouldy this year - which I suppose is the result of the wet summer we have had. The showers are very powerful- but we found they were scalding hot, too hot to actually use and no means of turning the temperature down.
The site is also right next to a moderately busy road - I take earplugs with me as traffic starts quite early in the morning.
Th price for six of us in one tent for 3 nights was £10 each so although we weren't completely satisfied with the site at least it was cheap.

Stayed one night. Very basic. Couldn't face using showers as very small and dingy. Also expensive at £20 considering what the site was like. We ate at the pub which was alright. We both had ribs. My husband ordered Lamb but was later told there was none left. This was a little annoying as we were surrounded by hundreds of sheep. We did not feel welcomed and would not go back.

There were four tents and caravans staying at the Cross inn and there was plenty of space for us. Its an ideal location for visiting Alton Towers and the food at the restaurant is top class we couldnt fault it. It was good food and drink at a good price. It is close to a busy road and at times you can hear the tipper lorries going by but but it didnt ruin the break too much. The toilets are clean however take some toilet rolls with you it did run out very quickly and the showers are clean but very basic. But all in all it was a great weekend and we shall be visiting again

My friends and I stayed at this campsite following a day out at Alton Towers. The manager was really nice. Allowed us to pitch at short notice. The pitches were immaculate. Basic but clean facilities. We entered the pub that night to be greeted by friendly bar staff. We wished that we hadn't eaten at Alton Towers as the food looked lovely! It was apparent that there were many locals in there who were greeted by name by the friendly landlord.
I will definitely stay there again. It was set in beautiful surroundings. Next time I would probably use this campsite as a base to explore Derbyshire and Staffordshire. I think they also do bed and breakfast so if you did not fancy camping but wanted a homely atmosphere then this was ideal. There were also static caravans, a duck pond and a nice family friendly garden.

A great site to stay at if you are planning to visit Alton Towers. It is located by the side of the pub. The facilities were clean, although limited (one shower in the ladies, one in the gents and one disabled) but the water was hot and long lasting! We stayed two nights and ate once in the pub, which was very reasonably priced, fairly basic “pub grub”. There is a sign on the site saying “no BBQ’s” but we asked and they were happy for us to use a disposable BBQ on the gravel track that runs through the site to protect the grass. They ask you to park on the tarmac car park and not on the actual site (worth knowing if you have a small tent and store stuff in your car). It’s not a huge problem though as the site is quite small so you don’t have too far to walk! Having read previous reviews prior to our visit we made sure that we pitched well away from the road and so we weren’t disturbed, but we chatted to other campers who had pitched by the road and they said they were woken by tractors passing!

may 2003 Situated about 4 miles from Alton towers on the A52 at the side of a pub. Its a small site..well in fact not really a site at all, more of a large pub car park but dont let this put you off.The staff/ landlord was really helpfull and the site very clean. Toilets and showers were a 9/10.We didn`t eat in the pub but we heard people leaving commenting on how nice it was and how full they were.£8 for 2 adults was the price for one night without electric ( i think hook ups were available there)My only complaint was noise from lorries on the main road...but suppose thats my own fault, next time I will pitch the tent further away from the road. Having said that a Cockrell in the next field woke me up anyhow. Having read reviews about grumpy owners at other sites nearby this would be my choice when I go to Alton Towers.
