Just returned from a four day trip to Three Lochs and loved it, myself husband and two teenagers. The sites facilities were all you need from a campsite, in some cases have more than other campsites we've been to (which is quite varied all over Scotland) The campsite, toilet block was very clean and tidy as was the play area games room and little cafe, swimming pool although a tad small was a godsend, my two teenagers enjoyed it a lot. Never once moaned at being bored, all of the above was within walking distance away.
The Lochs where a great place to fish, sit and relax (nice sized Pike,Perch, roach and breem)Pike can go to 50+lbs. All in all this place was so good we've booked for a long stay, the staff are so friendly in fact anyone we met there was friendly. Newton Stewart's only 7 miles away if you forget to bring anything with you, although the shop has plenty of supplies if needed.

Just returned from 2 nights at the 3 lochs. We were planned to stay for 7 nights but were not too impressed with the site. We required an electric hook up but were told that there was not to many available, even then it depended on how long your hook up cable was. We were under the impression that all the attractions were free but when we arrived found them to be really expensive, ie, £12 for induction for air rifle shooting then £6 for half an hour on the range, pitch and put the same. To sum it up. Forget the 3 lochs, not worth it, especially with the kids.

Have just got back from a most relaxing week camping at three lochs. The site was clean; the toilets / shower blocks were clean. As for the staff, I have never met a friendlier crew, nothing was ever too much and they always had time for a chat and to point out local places of interest. The wife and I can not wait to go back next year, the shop on site had the basics that you would need, but there are supermarkets near by (Somerfield’s in Newton Stewart, approx 10 mins away, and Tesco’s and a Morrison’s in stranraer approx 20 mins away), there are also a couple of camping / outdoor shops in Newton Stewart if there is anything you have forgot or need. There is also a good whiskey shop near the chippy in Newton Stewart. The campsite was well maintained and extremely well run, the views of the lochs in the morning will take some beating now that I am back at work. Overall a brilliant week at a brilliant camp site. For those into a bit of history I would recommend a visit to Glen Luce Abbey a few miles from the campsite.

Just returned from a week at Three Lochs. Having arrived in very wet weather, we had sun and clear skies most of the following week. A lovely quiet and well kept site which is situated around ten miles from the nearest town. With the touring pitches having perfect views of the Lochs. The shower block on site was very clean and adequate although the showers werent exactly power showers. Overall a great site with great fishing / boating facilities, I would recommend a visit and hope to return some day.

Had a very enjoyable two weeks on this site, met some friendly people who went out of their way to help us. View from caravan overlooking the loch was amazing.
Our two boys learnt to swim in the small but adequate swimming pool, only problem was there was nowhere to get changed, you had to go round the corner to shower block, which was a pain if weather not too good. There was also a games room on site which the children really enjoyed cost me a small fortune though. Shower blocks were clean but could do with some updating they where either scolding hot or freezing cold, nowhere to put your clothes or sit down to get dry.
Its advisable to buy bottled water as the water on site was brown but they said its advisable to boil it first before drinking but I didnt fancy that. The shop on site was only open from 9 till 11 in the morning and 4 till 6 in the evening, no bottled water in the shop so go to morrisons which is only 10 minutes down the road on the way into Stranraer.
Midgies are a real problem so dont forget your repellants, if there is a bit of a breeze your fine, but if flat calm you get eaten alive. Next time if we come to visit this site again I will definitely take fishing rods the three lochs are excellant for all kinds of fishing.

March 2005 Just came back from this site today, the fishing is good but the black loch is not open and as I am a keen fly fisherman I was a bit ticked off, but my son has now got me into pike fishing which turned out to be good.
The site itself is very quiet but this may be because it is early in the season. The toilets and showers were kept spotless, the pool was warm and not crowded, everyone who we met were very friendly.
A lot of the touring vans are unoccupied but because this is a good quiet site a lot of the tourers are there all year round as permanent pitches, I am now looking into this for myself as my wife loved the site and is now talking about going there every chance she gets.
The shop opening hours are a bit silly 9 to 11 and 4 to 5, but this also might be because it's early in the season.
Overall if you want a nice quiet relaxed holiday this is the place to go but I probably should not be telling you this as I might be doing myself out of a permanent pitch.

September 2004 Site is ideal for fishing and walking. Forest walks just across the road. The site doesn't charge for dogs. Small pool on site was a little chilly but the kids loved it. The only draw back with the pool is it has no changing facilities, you have to go next door to the shower block, a very short walk but chilly on a cold/wet day. Kids all came home with colds. Small games room on site was a hit with the older kids but cost me a small fortune. Toilets and showers were clean and tidy and well positioned for tourers and campers. Shop on site was only open from 9am-11am and then 4pm-5pm which was inconvenient if you needed something as it was not within walking distance of any other shop. On the whole we enjoyed our weekend and thought it was pretty good value for money.

August 2004 Just got back from this campsite and what a lovely place. We went bank holiday weekend and it was not packed at all. If you like peace and quiet this is a great site, its abit out the way but has great views over the loch. The toilet and shower are clean with disabled facilities.Shop on site sells all the basic stuff. For the kids there is a free small covered pool which me and my daughter had to ourselves alot of the time, i think you just have to time it right. There is also a small games room with a pool table. The hotel about two miles is way is a great place which accepts kids and dogs and really makes you feel welcome. This site is a great get away from it place and is well worth visiting.

August 2004 An excellent site. Teenagers loved the on-site fishing and the younger ones played in the swimming pool all day. The toilet facilities were good (free showers), shop was very helpful but only open for a few hours a day, this said, it sold all the essentials. A good place to chill out.

August 2004 Spent a week here with my two young boys.
The site itself is pretty quiet. It is mostly populated with static caravans and tourers that don't appear to do much touring. About 75% of these were unoccupied during our stay which meant that there weren't many peeople around.
The camping area is relatively level and very quiet. It rained quite a bit while we were there but the ground remained firm.
The facilities block is limited. There's only one sink for washing up and another for vegetable preparation (although nobody seemed to take any notice of this). However, I didn't have to queue during our stay. The toilets and showers are adequate but are only cleaned once a day (or not at all on Sunday) and given that the toilets are used by pool users who trail mud and grass in, this isn't enough.
The pool is small and not very warm but is covered which was a godsend on those rainy days! We never once found the pool to be crowded.
Overall, this site was OK, but I'm sure we can do better next time we are in the area.
